Tom Cruise doesn’t just have a single chicken tikka masala when he goes to Birmingham – he has another one straight after. Has any man ever been more on-brand?
When Tom Cruise commits to something, he commits. When a Mission: Impossible stunt called for him to climb up the outside of the world’s tallest building, he actually climbed up the outside of the world’s tallest building. When Collateral required him to become an invisible assassin, he temporarily became a Fed-Ex driver to teach himself anonymity. When he fell in love with Katie Holmes, he did it with such couch-leaping intensity that it derailed his career for half a decade.
So when Tom Cruise went to Birmingham to have a curry, he really went to Birmingham to have a curry. When Tom Cruise went to Birmingham to have a curry, he did it with the same vigour that...

Update, with video Despite the Covid death last year of its announced co-composer Adam Schlesinger, The Nanny Broadway musical is “almost ready to launch,” Fran Drescher said on The View today.
And no, Drescher won’t be taking the stage as her ’90s sitcom incarnation Fran Fine.
“I really can’t sing,” Drescher said on today’s episode of ABC’s The View. “This is going to be a very heavy singing part, so we’re going to have to find basically the next Barbra Streisand, I think.”
Drescher, who is writing the show’s book with her The Nanny co-creator Peter Marc Jacobson, first revealed the development of a musical adaptation more than a year ago. At that time, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Rachel Bloom and Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger were set to write the music, but Schlesinger died several months later of Covid-19 at the age of...

Andy Cohen is to front and executive produce a provocative new format for Peacock, in which singletons brave unfiltered feedback from their exes. The NBCUniversal streamer also confirmed that he is involved in a reboot of The Real Housewives Of Miami.

The no-holds-barred series is aimed at empowering singles with insight on how they can improve their romantic experiences. It will be filmed in LA, with Ryan O’Dowd executive producing for BBC Studios. Lynn Sutcliffe and Hugh Rycoft executive produce for Mighty Productions.

Universal Pictures has set the release date for “News of the World” for December 25, officially launching the post-Civil War drama starring Tom Hanks into the Oscar race. (Watch the trailer.) The film reunites Hanks with his “Captain Phillips” director Paul Greengrass and could become the vehicle that brings the two-time Academy Award winner his seventh acting nomination.
Hanks first broke through at the Oscars for playing Josh Baskin in the 1988 film “Big.” The fantasy comedy was directed by Penny Marshall and proved Hanks could be a major box office draw as well as a critical favorite. After losing his first bid to Dustin Hoffman for “Rainman,” Hanks waited five years to return to the Oscars. His portrayal of Andy Beckett in the legal drama “Philadelphia,” opposite Denzel Washington, earned Hanks his first win for Best Actor. The next year Hanks prevailed once more for his iconic role as the title character in “Forrest Gump.

Joe Wong has released a hazy new video for “Nite Creatures” — the title track to his debut album — directed by Fred Armisen.
The clip opens with birds chirping as Wong appears inside a lavish living room. Psychedelic swirls surround him for the chorus, alongside Seventies-style production with a horn section. “Relax your mind,” he sings. “The night creatures wander past you.” Later, Ex Hex’s Mary Timony reads sheet music, gazing at the notes.

Take The Nanny and The Partridge Family and, ahem, smash them together and that’s Katharine McPhee‘s TV comeback vehicle in a nutshell.
TVLine has learned that Netflix has placed a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for Country Comfort, a new multi-cam sitcom starring McPhee as a modern-day, country-tinged version of Fran Drescher’s iconic au pair. Despite the familiar premise, and the fact that Country Comfort hails from longtime Nanny Ep Caryn Lucas, the project is not a reboot of CBS’ classic Fran Drescher comedy.

Forget Ex on the Beach, it's all about Ex on the Bach. Viewers were riveted (and cringing) during Monday night's episode of The Bachelor when contestant Victoria Fuller walked hand-in-hand with Peter Weber to what was supposed to be a fun concert during their one-on-one only to find her ex-boyfriend Chase Rice standing on the stage. Looking like a deer in headlights and clearly unsure of what to do, Victoria F. awkwardly danced with and kissed Peter as her country singer ex serenaded them. Talk about uncomfortable. While it was definitely one of the most dramatic blasts from the pasts Bachelor Nation has seen, it was far from the first, as the franchise has a long history of contestants' exes popping up to...

Funny how things can evolve throughout the creative process. When I first saw a listing for Deadly Descent on UFO International Productions' website months ago, the synopsis described skiers and snowboarders trapped on a mountain by an avalanche having to also deal with a pack of wild dogs after them. Somewhere along the way those ravenous dogs got turned into a Yeti and the title got massively elongated to Deadly Descent: The Legend of the Abominable Snowman.
In 1992 Glacier Peak, Washington, a small group of back country skiers climb Glacier Peak, one of most remote mountains in the Cascade Range. Lead by Jake Tanner, the group is somewhere high up on the mountain where they disappear and are never seen again.
Present Day - Glacier Peak. A helicopter soars over the snowy peak. In the rear cabin is a U.S. Special Forces member fresh off a long tour in Afghanistan: Brian Tanner.

Is it just my imagination or have we been reporting on the Devon Sawa monster movie Creature of Darkness for two years now? Sure feels like it has taken its sweet time. At long last, the monster movie funded by a Powerball lottery winner (true story!) will finally begin stalking DVD shelves this April.
"Whatever happened to" Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Idle Hands, Extreme Ops) stars as a young man plagued by nightmares in which he repeatedly sees himself and his friends being slaughtered by a supernatural monster known as The Catcher. His friends, who have apparently never seen a horror movie in their lives, attempt to cure him of his recurring nightmares by taking him to a secluded forest where his dreams indicate The Catcher lurks. Guess what dream monster turns out to be very much a reality?

NEW YORK -- Rufus Sewell has been tapped to star in the upcoming original biopic on Charles II, a co-production of A&E and BBC. Scheduled to begin shooting next month in Prague, the four-hour miniseries chronicles the 17th century monarch's turbulent reign, which coincided with the plague and the Great Fire of London. The film also explores his equally stormy personal life, including his succession of mistresses. "This is a complex, rich portrait of a king -- not to mention an incredibly sexy one," miniseries executive producer Delia Fine said. "Rufus is just the right actor to play such a fantastic character." Sewell's credits include Extreme Ops and A Knight's Tale. Rupert Graves (Extreme Ops) will co-star as Lord Buckingham, Charles' nemesis. Expected to air late this year or in early 2004, the miniseries will be directed by Joe Wright (BBC's Crocodile Snap). The script was written by Adrian Hodges (Lorna Doone). Laura Mackie will executive produce, and Kate Harwood produces for the BBC. The miniseries is the first longform project greenlighted by Bob DeBitetto, A&E's new senior vp original programming. No budget was disclosed, but it will be one of the biggest productions in A&E history, Fine said. Sewell is represented by Victoria Belfrage in London and Endeavor in the United States. Gene Parseghian is his manager.

Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, industry expectations were running high as several strong holdovers -- and five new wide releases that appealed to a broad range of demographics -- were hoping to take the boxoffice to record heights. But most of what magic there was at the boxoffice was conjured up by Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as the fantasy-adventure film levitated back into the top spot after a one-week absence. Chamber pulled in an estimated $32.2 million during the three days, beating MGM's James Bond installment Die Another Day, which debuted in the top spot a week earlier. Die moved into the No. 2 spot with a three-day estimate of $31 million, off a modest 34% from its opening. Buena Vista's latest $100 million-plus animated feature Treasure Planet placed fourth with a disappointing three-day estimate of $11.9 million and has dug up $16.5 million since its release Wednesday -- the worst opening in recent history for a major Disney animated release. Sony's Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights took in an estimated $10.1 million to place fifth and collected about $15.1 million for the five days. Fox's Solaris debuted in the seventh slot with a bleak estimate of $6.8 million and $9.5 million for the five-day period. Dimension's Wes Craven Presents: They opened in the ninth slot with a not-so-scary estimate of $5.7 million. They has taken in roughly $8 million since its Wednesday opening. Paramount Pictures' Extreme Ops was in the 14th slot with a frigid estimate of $2.3 million and $3.1 million for its five-day cume.
