Isn’t Chris Pratt just the coolest? Not only does he play a hero in the all new Jurassic World, he also jumped up to catch a falling speaker at the Los Angeles press conference for the film, protecting a journalist. Check out some of the fun conversation as Pratt tells us about his close call with a moose, and his approach to the character of Owen. Also, make sure you scroll to the end. I’ve included some photos that I took of all the fun decorations and toys they had set up for us to look at!

Hey Deadheads, it’s Ryne from The Moon is a Dead World. This week we add Resurrection‘s second season to our list of things to cover, as well as the usual stuff: Kevin with Under the Dome and The Strain, Shawn has Gotham and Z Nation, and I’ve got the rest.
The Lottery: “In Extremis” - Sunday, September 28 at 9 Pm
So I made it to The Lottery‘s season finale. For a little while I thought I was going to pull a Shawn and drop out, but I managed to stick with it to the end. I don’t want to say I hate The Lottery like I do Bitten, because that’s not really the case; but I do think that the show has a lot of really stupid subplots and obvious “twists,” and enjoyment of the show’s plot has dropped significantly from the first episode.

Billy still feels that The Strain is treading water, even in its penultimate episode. Here's his review of Last Rites...
This review contains spoilers.
1.12 Last Rites
I sure wish this was the Last Rites of The Strain, but alas it’s just the title of the penultimate episode. In the annals of TV history, the function of this episode in a series is to provide a set-up for the finale. However, here the story seems to get fully obsessed with telling things it could have revealed weeks ago.
Specifically much time is given over to explaining the origin of Abraham’s heart-in-a-jar, which was pretty obviously previously owned by someone close to him in the pilot. The flashback takes us to 1967 Albania, where Abraham is chasing The Master with the help of his wife Miriam, and a horse that cost him 2,000 Albanian Lek. If you are wondering, that’s about $18 at the current exchange rate,...

FX’s The Strain The Third Rail TV Show Review. The Strain: Season 1, Episode 11: The Third Rail was a game changer of epic proportions. When Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) and Vasilly Fet (Kevin Durand) teamed up with Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) I bet none of [...]

Abraham takes his team underground in this week's episode of The Strain. Here's Billy's review...
Warning: this review contains spoilers.
1.11 The Third Rail
My frustration watching this series continues, as it hints it might hit the accelerator pedal before stomping on the brakes instead.
There were at least three points in The Third Rail where it looked for all the world like the narrative and characters would take flight, only for the writers to retreat into the well-worn path of mediocrity. What’s wrong with giving this show some rope? The pace has been far too slow from the outset.
There’s a little development on each of the three narrative threads, but not enough to really justify what screen time was allocated to any of them. The two subplots; Gus coming home and Zack going on an errand, didn’t really go anywhere special.
And, in respect of Zack,...

This week’s episode of The Strain finally kicks the season ending face-off into high gear as team Eph leave Zach and Ms. Martinez in the shop as they prepare to take on The Master’s Lair. The Third Rail succeeds as this season’s most intense episode yet, thanks to some tight crawl spaces, vamped out looters, and a couple of Uv rave parties, and The Cast Inside The Strain is here to discuss it all.
This episode may have featured some of the best moments of the series so far, but Dustin and I get into a heated discussion about this week’s B-plot featuring Zach’s misadventures to find cigarettes for Ms. Martinez. How much can one storyline really ruin an episode? Tune in to hear our arguments for and against the great cigarette escapade.

The Strain, Season 1, Episode 11, “The Third Rail”
Written by Justin Britt-Gibson & Chuck Hogan
Directed by Deran Sarafian
Airs Sundays at 10pm Est on FX
Let’s start this week by talking about Eph. No one particularly wants to, but he’s still our ostensible hero, and that has become The Strain‘s most consistent and scarring flaw. The first mistake the writers make this episode is to spend it pitting Eph against Fet in something that isn’t much more than a dick measuring contest, and one in which everyone is undoubtedly on Fet’s side. And it’s a colossal hindrance to the show that we can’t tell whose side we’re supposed to be on. We can’t tell if we’re supposed to see Eph as our great hero, or if this is some subtle takedown of the arrogant straight white male leader trope.

Abe Setrakian might have gotten along famously with Rectify’s Daniel Holden. Both are innately good but have been driven to dark reaches of the soul, to a point where it challenges the very existential notions of decency and evil. They also enjoy a home-cooked meal, display an aptitude for carpentry and pepper conversations with popular philosophy (Daniel prefers Aquinas, while Abe is more of a Joseph Campbell man). But Daniel, newly off death row, is merely trying to survive in the real world. Abraham, conversely, is hell-bent on staring down certain death by squaring off against an eight-foot-tall vampire who’s amassed a horde of nesting scions well on their way to siphoning humankind of its essence. Suffice to say, this is where the similarities cease. “The Third Rail” ends with our theoretical heroes still dysfunctional as a group, like a talent-laden baseball team who can’t seem to...

This Sunday on FX’s The Strain, Eph & Co. sought out the Master’s lair, perhaps not prepared for what they would find, while Zach… oh, Zach. [Headshake]
Related FX Renews Tyrant for Season 2
After Vasiliy engineers a Uv flash bomb type of thing, he, Eph, Nora and Setrakian broach the belly of the beast — the subway tunnels beneath where the World Trade Center stood, seeing as The Master is traditionally “drawn to places of human misery.” Swell guy, he is.

On tonight's episode of FX's The Strain, Eph finally comes face to face with The Master, the leader of the vampires currently running amok in New York City.
Viewers have only gotten one scene in the past where they've seen The Master for an extended amount of time, let alone hear him speak in more than just the whispers newly turned vampires including Eph's wife. But in tonight's episode, "The Third Rail," you'll get a long look at him and hear what he has planned for Eph.
