A nice, sweet film, but not saccharine sweet.

"Coney Island Baby" is a nice, funny, sweet film. The story isn't exactly cutting edge, but the performances are great, and it's an excellent first effort from the director, Amy Hobby. It was refreshing to see a film about Ireland where everyone wasn't drunk, and nothing was brought up about being Catholic...

Lyrically edgy

A delicately compelling and edgily lyric film that sticks with you like meat and potatoes--and what a brilliant idea to make a Tayto truck one of the characters! It was a pleasure to let it work its wiles and celebrate its perfect blend of realism and romance.

Comfy!

Seriously I know this movie can't compete with the big ones but it made me feel so at home even though I'm not Irish. It's like one of those old rocking chairs by the fireplace. It's a feel good movie. The love story isn't slurpy. Characters are well put on. I have a dvd and i watch it every once in a while if i want a cute, funny and comfy movie.
