This was an amazing film. I was fortunate enough to see it when it showed in select theaters, during the summer of 1991.
There are a number of independent shorts that compiled this film, including a puppetry animation piece called the Sandman, about a boy who had reoccurring nightmares that portrayed a half-man, half-crow that would peck out the eyes of the sleeping and fill the eye sockets with sand. I believe that this short was either produced or directed by Henry Selick or Tim Burton. I am not 100% sure what their involvement was in this film, but I know that either one of them had something to do with it, but it's not widely known.
There is also a short that was done, portraying a boxer in a jail cell that is shadowboxing in a mirror. The animation looks as if it was shot in 16 or 32mm film and illustrated in red, black and white acrylic paints on glass. It is amazing to say the least. I also believe that there was an animated music video for the song Get a Haircut, written by George Thorogood and the Destroyers. It had some rocker looking cow that refused to get a haircut, from what I can remember.
