It’s 2017 and everyone in broadcast television is miserable. All five of the over-the-air English-language networks are down again in Nielsen’s TV ratings, though some are retaining Fall 2016 numbers better than others. NBC is hanging in there better than the rest of its competition — and that’s before the channel’s 2018 Winter Olympics and next year’s Super Bowl Lii. The best-rated broadcast channel is currently averaging a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49, which is the demographic most-coveted by advertisers. Good stuff, NBC. Oh, but you’re still down 8 percent season-to-date in that all-important age-range. At least that’s better than CBS and.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
Last weekend saw the release of the latest Tom Cruise vehicle, “American Made,” and critics are raving that it’s better than “The Mummy!” In honor of this great achievement, we ask: What is Tom Cruise’s greatest performance?

The greatest Tom Cruise performance of all time happened on Oprah’s couch in 2005. But in the movies? “Magnolia.” It’s the best, but it’s also the “most” Cruise performance. His batshit insanity just barely holds together the fragile insecurity of the man beneath the horndog motivation speaker.

Back in 1964 a lot of people still thought dolphins were fish, but by the time this TV show was finished, we all knew that our happy undersea friend was smarter than the average bear and lives in a world full of wonder. Ivan Tors’ grandly successful Florida-shot family show kept a lot of seagoing movie veterans in green seaweed, including both original ‘Creature’ Gill Men.

There is a certain relish to the way Scott Glenn describes a knife. His voice – a sort of Midwestern drawl that has a touch of Pittsburgh flint and a lot of Ketchum, Idaho, where he's called home for decades, in it – stays slow and steady as he talks about some of the various weapons he's been using in his martial-arts training lately. You can tell from the gleam in his eye, however, that the actor is getting a serious kick out detailing his recent discoveries in self-defense cutlery.

I was a little bit hasty with my preconceptions of this book. A mini-series based on a Dr Who TV Christmas special that I didn’t particularly like looked doomed to failure, review wise. Instead George Mann served up a first issue that surpassed the TV episode, and showed these characters could be used well. ‘These’ characters are Grant and Lucy, the stars of the TV special, now joined by their young daughter Jennifer, this being several years after the special. Grant Gordon is, of course, the world’s first superhero, an affectionate homage to Silver Age superheroes in general, and Superman in particular. He became that superhero courtesy of a reality altering gem that ended up in his possession as a boy courtesy of The Doctor on one of his many escapades.

I think we’re all well aware of the fact that far and away the best scene in the classic martial arts film Kickboxer starring Jean Claude Van Damme is the scene where Van Damme is inebriated and starts dancing with the ladies at a local bar. There’s zero question that’s the highlight of the film. There’s one line I think I can impersonate in that scene. It’s when he’s drunk and says “Good stuff.” But in the entire movie there’s one scene I think I can nail down pretty well. It’s the scene in which Van Damme first finds out

Before I get stuck into the review in earnest, cards on the table time. I didn’t enjoy the Christmas special that inspired this 4 part mini-series. The Return of Dr Mysterio appeared on our screens Christmas 2016, and seems to have been very well liked by most. That should have included me, as it featured Dr Who of course, and something of an affectionate nod to comic books and superheroes, which have been a part of my life for 4 decades. I appreciated the intent, it just didn’t work for me. This mini-series was designed to build on from the events in that TV special, and I do have an interest in that, to see where Grant and Lucy have been since we last saw them.

Boy, oh boy. The Conjuring is the gift that keeps giving for Warner Bros., isn't it?
The 2013 horror smash not only gave way to a sequel, but also a spinoff, Annabelle- which is getting its own sequel! But that's not all, folks. There's also going to be a spinoff about a character featured in The Conjuring 2!
(Sorry about all the exclamation marks. I'm a little over-caffeinated this morning!!!)
Folks who saw The Conjuring 2 were treated to one creepy freakin' nun. The being haunted Vera Farmiga's character throughout the horror sequel, which once again found James Wan at the helm. That nun left such an impression on audiences, despite not being the primary threat in the film, that it ended up garnering about as much buzz as the Annabelle doll did when it made its premiere in the first Conjuring. That's why The Nun is officially on its way.

At the behest of my friend and colleague Nikki Baughan, I just finished Season 1 of Fox’s TV series The Exorcist. And I can highly recommend it. Inspired by the William Peter Blatty novel (which was the basis for the 1973 film), it is incredibly unnerving in ways that filmed horror often fails to achieve, partly because it has a lot more time — we get 10 45-minute episodes here — to create an inching envelopment by evil of the Rance family of Chicago. There are some fantastic performances here — particular by Geena Davis as the mom worried that her teenaged daughter is possessed by a demon and Ben Daniels as the badass exorcist — and a few sneaky feminist touches, such as the cloistered nuns who perform a loving sort of exorcism that’s more about the warm embrace of Christ compelling evil spirits to leave mere mortals alone than violence and shouting to drive them out.

Rose began her YouTube channel in 2009 with hair and make-up videos, counseling her peers on curing acne and how to grow hair more quickly. Over the past seven years, her videos have quickly evolved from the ubiquitous talking head tutorial video to more stylized fare; with editing, music choices, and feminist politics, Rose’s channel stands out in a sea of clickbait titles and the viral challenge of the moment.

It was one episode late, but the big ass CW superhero crossover finally begins!
You can't really count Supergirl Season 2 Episode 8 because, I don't know about you, but 30 seconds of Barry and Cisco at the end of the episode does Not count as a crossover. Shame on you, CW!
So now the alien invasion really begins on The Flash Season 3 Episode 8, and it was pretty sweet.
I didn't expect to see Lyla as the first crossover character, so that was a cool surprise. The fact that the aliens, dubbed The Dominators, were here decades ago, makes you wonder if the whole Flashpoint debacle caused this new invasion to happen, too. Barry just can't stop screwing up!

In every police drama, there's always an episode where the cops become the hunted instead of the hunter. It's a natural source of drama and moreso now considering current events. Chicago Pd Season 4 Episode 8 takes advantage of that to full effect while also writing out two characters - one in a good way and the other not so much.
"A Shot Heard Round The World" focuses on a sniper who kills two uniformed Cpd officers, and couldn't be more topical. Like the trusty coma, dementia is the perfect illness for a thriller. It enables writers to store key information inside a character and release it precisely when the plot demands without anyone being able to scream ‘but why didn’t you say that weeks ago?!’. Characters suffering from dementia can legitimately flit in and out of lucidity, giving away nothing until the time comes for them to give away everything. Danny Brocklehurst knew that in 2011 BBC thriller Exile, and the writers of The Missing know it too.
In the present day, we learn that Roger Allam’s Adrian Stone is a dementia sufferer.

A review of tonight's Atlanta coming up just as soon as I'd like to be as smart as a baby dolphin... If last week's episode was Donald Glover and company demonstrating that they could find both comic and dramatic value in a previously minor character like Van, then "B.A.N." is the creative team proving that they can make a show that only vaguely even takes place in the Atlanta universe and still make it work. "B.A.N.," named for a fictionalized spin on B.E.T. (with some TV One thrown in for good measure) is essentially a lost episode of Chappelle's Show or Key & Peele, presenting a series of sketches under the umbrella of being part of an episode of the fictional Montague talk show, or the commercials the air during it. (Some of them — the early Dodge ones in particular — are so convincing that I...

How is it that Sex Machine looks even creepier in normal clothes?
On From Dusk Till Dawn Season 3 Episode 3, Sex Machine came back into our lives, unfortunately. I cringe every time he appears on screen.
On the somewhat bright side, Sex Machine is useful. He helps to move the story along by providing us with information that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Okay, Richie might have been able to figure that stuff out, but it would take time.
With Sex Machine, it isn't surprising that he knew this stuff off the top of his head.
But honestly, if Richie could step up his research game, then we could get rid of Sex Machine all together. He's making progress, what with his footnotes and everything. I mean does anyone genuinely like Sex Machine?
Is anyone else still confused as to why that girl wanted to be a part of the team?...
On From Dusk Till Dawn Season 3 Episode 3, Sex Machine came back into our lives, unfortunately. I cringe every time he appears on screen.

Fede Alvaraz's "Don't Breathe", has made $15,700,000 in its second weekend, taking the 1st place for second time. However its international numbers is weak, with only $2,001,241 so the total worldwide numbers are $53,125,193. About DC's latest film "Suicide Squad", takes the 2nd place for second time again. However it still proves it has some fine legs with bringing $10,005,000 this weekend to its Domestic numbers, bringing up $297,422,209. Good stuff happens for the Bad Guys, that they beat First Chapter of DC Extended Universe, "Man of Steel" both domestically and worldwide, grossing up total of $672,922,209. Also, Suicide Squad is going to open in Japan on 10th of September...so it may help its Worldwide numbers. Have you seen Don't Breathe yet ? Have you planned to see Suicide Squad once again ? Sounds off the comments below folks.

The guy who helped give Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David their starts in stand-up is looking to unload his Hollywood Hills pad. Mark Lonow -- a longtime partner at The Improv comedy club franchise -- is selling the 5 bedroom, 3 bath crib for $2 million. He's lived in the 3,700 square foot property for the last 16 years. Easy to see why Mark, who's also actor and producer, stayed so long -- gorgeous hardwood floors, high vaulted ceilings and...

John Cena celebrated Independence Day by reminding people of the true meaning of patriotism. The professional wrestler and actor released an inspiring video where he explains that being patriotic is more than having pride in your country, it’s love beyond labels.
Walking down a stereotypical small town street, Cena talks about what makes up this country we live in. He then asks the viewer to picture the “average” American citizen.
“Chances are, the person you are picturing right now looks a little different than the real average American,” he states. “There are 319 million Us citizens, 51 percent are female. So first off, the average American is a woman. Cool, huh? Is that what you pictured?”

He continues by adding that, “54 million are Latino, 40 million senior citizens. 27 million are disabled, 18 million are Asian. That’s more people in the U.

James Wan is a star that's been on the rise for quite some time. It began quietly with the success of low-budget horror series Saw, and it reached its zenith when he sat in the seat vacated by Justin Lin and made the global smash Furious 7. Regardless of what you think of his horror credits- one of which has a sequel (The Conjuring 2) opening this weekend- he's shown that he knows how to make bankable films about concepts that appeal to mass audiences. His track record makes him, undoubtedly, the most successful director in the DC Extended Universe.
With production and promotion for The Conjuring 2 officially coming to an end this weekend, Wan will soon turn his sights onto his DC project- a little film called Aquaman. The funny thing is Warner Bros. has undergone a lot of shapeshifting behind the scenes while he was away working...

Some things are out of a parent's control. Jimmy Kimmel was reminded of that fact after orchestrating what he assumed would be a Mother's Day for the record books. The comedian, who has two children from his first marriage, pulled out all the stops to celebrate everything Molly McNearney does for their 22-month-old daughter, Jane Kimmel. "I thought I nailed Mother's Day this year. I thought I did a very good job," he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday. "In the morning, my wife and her mother and sister all went to get massages. While they were out, I made a fantastic brunch: waffles on the waffle iron, eggs, homemade biscuits. Good stuff, right?" "The flowers showed up on time. My wife...

On a channel called The Good Stuff, Craig “Wheezy Waiter” Benzine discusses educational topics across themed playlists. For his latest exploration, Benzine is working in tandem with a new show that plans to bring history to life. He has launched an eight-episode series called The Good Stuff - Time Capsule that applies the Civil War history of the PBS program Mercy Street to modern issues.
The first episode of Time Capsule will hit YouTube on January 15th, the same day as Mercy Street’s PBS premiere. The plan is to release seven additional episodes, with a new one arriving each Friday. The series will talk about Civil War topics, such as news media, government surveillance, and medical technology, and will explain how those topics have evolved across the past 150 years.
Benzine, dressed in a Union get-up, discussed Time Capsule in a video he shared on the Good Stuff YouTube channel:...

Mario Bava’s Rabid Dogs has been adapted by French director Éric Hannezo and after a festival run will finally see release pretty much everywhere great movies can be found January 22.
The first trailer and poster have landed and they are both pretty stylish affairs that have a retro flair, but don't push it into parody. Good stuff.
Synopsis:
After a bank job goes horribly wrong, three desperate criminals take a young woman, father and child hostage that sets off a frantic and violent road trip that not all of them will survive.
Rabid Dogs stars François Arnaud, Virginie Ledoyen, and Lambert Wilson star in the film.

Looking for good books about the movies to read? We've got a bumper selection of recommendations right here...
A confession. I actually started writing this article in 2013, and the reason you've only reading it now is that I've made sure I've read every book on this list, save for one or two where I've marked otherwise. As such, what you're getting is a very personal list of recommendations. Each of these books has at least something to it that I think is of interest to someone wanting to learn more about film - or just enjoy stories of movie making.
I've tended to avoid picture books, with one exception, as these ones I've chosen are all intended to be chock-full of words, to relax with at the end of a long day. Which is what I did. There are one or two notable omissions, as I'm still...

Yesterday, a former colleague of ours attempted to break a major story. He allegedly discovered the identity of Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) father in Marvel's upcoming Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. For anyone who saw the first film, there was a mystery built in to the overall plot surrounding who this mystery figure could be. So it's a fairly intriguing question that the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and James Gunn, wants you to think about until the sequel comes out. The scooper, in this case, pulled out all the stops to make this Exclusive of his seem like a big deal: A snazzy video, fancy clothes, a history lesson, and used the story as part of his re-branding process ("I'm now the artist formerly known as...").
Good stuff.
What happened next should surprise no one, least of all us here at Latino-Review. Like clockwork, Marvel and James Gunn shot his story down.

You loved Daredevil. I loved Daredevil. That guy sitting across from you on the tube loved Daredevil. Netflix and Marvel’s first team up was a work of sheer awesomeness – dark and brooding with a real focus on developing three-dimensional characters, along with some nice tie-ins to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s so good it wouldn’t really be too much of a reach to say it’s the best thing Marvel’s ever made.
Season 2 of the Man Without Fear’s show won’t hit Netflix until next year, but it looks like we’ll be getting to meet up with Matt Murdock well before then – according to Jon Schnepp talking over at Collider, Daredevil’s going to pop up at some point in Jessica Jones, the second series in the expanding The Defenders arc. We’ve already been spoiled with the announcement that Batman: Arkham Knight is getting its own spin-off Dlc featuring Catwoman in October, but Rocksteady’s not content with leaving things there. In a trailer showcasing various updates coming to the quintessential Batman game this September, the developer revealed a heap of new activities and content for players to get excited about.
First up is a skin for the Batmobile – released yesterday – that lets players get behind the wheel of Christopher Nolan’s reimagined Tumbler vehicle. In addition to that, more Nightwing challenge maps are on their way.
