In some shots of Courtney's car, there is a fish on the left side window near the driver's head, while in several close-up (eyes) shots the fish is covered with an NHRA logo.
After the dance when Erica is asked to help start one of the other girl's car, she and Randy turn and start walking to the car. In the next shot they're standing still and then start walking again.
At the end when Erica is presented with the Nationals trophy,
her sunglasses are on top of her head but as it zooms out and she raises the trophy, she's wearing the sunglasses. They then are back on top of her head when the cameras zoom in again.
In the scene when Erica goes back to the track for a run right after she is released from the hospital, her face shield alternates being up and down in different shots.
When Erica hurts her shoulder in gym class her skin isn't torn. When she leaves it has turned red. When she goes to bed it is a bloody wound.
Originally, this was written here as a goof: "In the close up of the license plate Erica's truck after she picks up Randy, the expiration year is set to '99' (1999). Since the movie was made in 2003, it would have to have an expiration of 2003 or 2005, since tags are good for 2 years." This is not a goof as the movie could be set in 1999, or the license could be expired. It is never made clear when the movie takes place.
When the car crashes into the sand trap you can see the smoke box on the side of the car and there is a ski on the front of the dragster.
In the movie there are snow-capped mountains in the background at the track near Houston, Texas. In actuality, there are no snow-capped mountains, or any mountains, within hundreds of miles of Houston, which lies on a sub-tropical coastal plain.
After Erica crashes, the helicopter that picks her up clearly says University of Utah AirMed. AirMed would never fly all the way to Houston.
