Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • Kenai (the bear) has his leg snared in a rope trap and he's yanked up into the air via a tree branch. He bounces up and down, however, bashing his head onto a rock, the tree and the ground again. Koda shows up to rescue him, but instead ends up repeatedly hitting him with a branch. Koda eventually releases the rope, causing Kenai to smash into the ground. The tree branch then crashes down and hits Kenai on the ground (all played for laughs).

Profanity

  • Two goats yell "Shut Up" 7 times in a row
  • A few uses of the word "stupid". 1 use of "pinhead".
  • Kenai says "Oh my god!" 3 or 4 times

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Kenai gets attacked by a bear. The bear is practically on top of Kenai, trying to kill him. Kenai climbs up onto a bolder, which is pushed repeatedly, until Kenai jumps off of it and grabs his spear.
  • There are couple of fighting scenes with the bear.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • The scenes with the bear can be quite violent. The scene where Kenai shoves his spear into the bear's chest killing it can be emotional and shocking. This is not shown, but Kenai points the spear towards the bear, and the audience hears a loud bear roar.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Kenai and his brothers pursue a bear, but a fight ends on top of a glacier, during which Sitka gives his life to save his brothers by dislodging the glacier, although the bear survives the fall. The two brothers search the river looking for Sitka but only find his hat. They yell Sitka's name several times. Could be disturbing for younger children. A memorial service is later held. Very sad.
  • When Kenai gets turned into a bear he is lifted up into the sky, with spiritual animals running around him, while quite intense music plays. He is then magically turned into a bear, and it is really hard to describe it.
  • The moment during Koda's story at the river where Kenai realizes is about he and his brothers' battle with the bear, thus the fact that he himself then killed Koda's mother leads to an extremely fast and intense montage of images as he reviews past events with a horror-stricken new perspective.
