Getter Robo.... Plus more
Syndicateman12 August 2006
A great man once said "i have a dream"..... that dream was Getter Robo.

The sequel to end all sequels, Shin Getter Robo is a sort of reunited version of all the Getter Robos (plus more) and then remixed using the talents of somebody other than Go Nagai. The animation, is more modern, yet much more unique and clean than "New Getter Robo" which came out more recently.

If you watched the original Getter Robo as a kid, watch this.

But if you are somebody who didn't (99 percent of you) this is still a good watch. The final 4 episodes of Shin Getter Robo will leave you wasted.

PS- Open Get :)

Ultra-violent mecha anime with a touch of the classic 70s
Sotirios_V20 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
It's a bit harsh to start like that, but what really strikes me in this anime series is its violence. I thought that extreme mecha violence was in NGE, when an EVA gone berserk and cannibalized an Angel. In here, there's more than mere crashes - the mechas actually bleed! Shin Getter Robo is a fast and full action packed series. It gives the viewer the sense that no one ever rests, specially in the first 3 episodes before the so-called Armageddon. The plot is quite simple but interesting as well - sometimes though, one could have the feeling of getting lost, but everything is explained throughout the episodes. The characters are really enjoyable and the emotions that the animators wanted to express through them bond perfectly with the series' vibrations.

SGR is one of the latest series in the classic Getter Robo saga back from the 70's, but one doesn't really have to know what was going on in the previous series as each one is independent. The characters are the same, but the viewer gets to know them in the first eps of each series..

In general, SGE is a violent, action series. There aren't any deep meanings or a really complex story (it has its necessary twists, though :D ), but it is worth seeing - just watch Go screaming "Gett-ahh!!!!! BEAN!!!" with a blast-full of laser beans destroying everything 'alive'! Plus, the director, Go Nagai, is a master of the field with years of experience - just trust the experts :D

An Adrenaline-rushing, edge-of-your-seat anime!
GetterJAM11 January 2013
Created in the late 90s, this series is still acclaimed as the best action robot anime ever made. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, known for its high octane level, was a mere parody of this Getter series without actually scaling the same heights.

I enjoyed every second of the Getter show. The never-ending action and intensity keep you constantly on the edge of your seat. (In my case, it made me stay up late a few nights while watching many episodes back-to-back.) Like many viewers, I think the story-telling could have been better. The story does make sense once you understand it. I suspect the creators of the anime intentionally confuse viewers to create suspense!? My second-time viewing resolved many mysteries.

If possible, watch the remastered DVD or Bluray versions with original dub. Performance of the Japanese voice-actors will enhance the viewing experience. Screamed out loud are the array of weaponry during the electrifying combats. WARNING: It will take a while after you finish watching Getter Armageddon (aka Sekai Saigo no Hi) to get screaming like "Getter Beam!!!","Change Getter One!!!" out of your head. So you get an idea of the energy level of this series.

Don't let imperfections in the story-telling take anything away from the quality of the series overall. The impressive battle scenes, the bravery and never-say-die attitude of the Getter team (particularly its leader Ryoma) and the power of the Getter Robos leave a lasting impression. If you understand the plot, the story could actually be quite captivating. Getter Armageddon is definitely a must-watch for action fans! Nothing seems impossible in the world of the Getters. An adrenaline-rush is guaranteed!

Best super robot show EVER. Yes, better than Gurren Lagann, GaoGaiGar and Gunbuster.
S_Craig_Zahler9 November 2011
If you are interested in screaming, logic-defying robot battle, this is the one. I am a fan of Gunbuster, but the first two episodes of that six episode OVA aren't great. And I am bigger fan of Gurren Lagann, but I did not dig some of the comedic episodes and the wacky stuff, nor did I love the goofy designs of the main mecha. GaoGaiGar actually has my favorite robot designs, but there is an absurd amount of reused footage for each episode (more excusable in this, since it was a long running show) and the Mike Saunders character is the most grating character in any show that I choose to regularly watch. Additionally, the early attempts at CG are unwanted.

Contrarily, Getter Robo Armageddon is a pedal down screaming battling clanking explosion of testosterone and creativity. An incredibly high standard is set with the arc of the first few episodes, but as with the the best Gainax shows (which are their robot shows rather than their unfunny broad "comedies") and GaoGaiGar, Getter Robo Armageddon continually tops itself, getting crazier and crazier and crazier. In this case, it does it with an adult audience in mind and with stronger violence and aggression. (Though the harder sci-fi ideas of Gunbuster are appreciated by me-- I really dig hard sci-fi, especially Greg Egan and Ted Chiang.)

"So much for the laws of physics" is an actual line from the show, as the carnage reaches unprecedented levels of wildness and invention.

Animation quality of Getter Robo Armageddon, as if often the case with OVA series, is good and often spectacular. Certainly the battles and gory sequences are as fluidly animated as a high budget feature. And the monster designs are worthy of Rob Bottin (The Thing) or Bernie Wrightson.

Although I heartily recommend Gunbuster and Gurren Lagann and Gaogaigar (Japanese sure like the letter G for robots, don't they?), Getter Robo Armaggedon is the best, a relentless barrage of ideas, conveyed through screaming action, and it is the most ridiculously passionate Super Robot show I've ever seen. I've watched it in its entirety three times and will watch it for the remainder of my life.

(New Getter Robo is also good, but nowhere near the level of this.)

Think about science and history.
goonzo-7289623 December 2022
It's a very strong story. It is a work that focuses on the history, future and art of mankind at the highest peak among Japanese robot animations. I want an art book because there are beautiful and memorable cuts. I saw this work around 2010. I looked for it but could not find it.

All the answers are completed in 3 episodes, and on top of that, the conclusion is sought twice, so the composition is the same. Surprisingly, it is noteworthy that Japan's evaluation is still low.

Here is the information about the Japanese voice actor who plays the role. One of them is such a nature lover that he usually sees fairies.
