First mini-series of the cycle Narciso Ibáñez Menta's Obras Maestras del Terror on Channel 9 in Buenos Aires.
The interiors of the Opera of Paris were filmed in the Theater Colón of Buenos Aires.
Though the film is thought to be lost forever, a few stills from the production are available online. The photos reveal that this mini-series might have been the most faithful film version of the Gaston Leroux novel.
This mini-series also inspired the mini-series El hombre que volvió de la muerte (1969) in which 'Narciso Ibañez Mente' also directed, and starred as the lead character, who also hides his facial disfigurement behind a metallic mask.
According to legend, this was a highly anticipated mini-series. And on the night that it first aired, the streets of Buenos Aires were pretty much empty.
