Interesting But Poorly Implemented

On a hunch I picked this title up as a rental DVD, half-expecting to see an interesting film and half-expecting to be disappointed by being suckered into putting money into a film that had gone under the American cinematic radar because of its own faults, rather than a lack of publicity money.

I was rather disappointed. The acting/dialogue was almost entirely wooden, and the plot revolving around a bank heist was improbable beyond suspension of disbelief.

Realizing that the film is based off of a character that was conceived four decades ago, in much the same style as James Bond, it is plain to see that Modesty Blaise has not aged as well as 007. The spirit of the film is unapologetically that of a dated fairytale noir combined with modern suspense, but its production value seems noticeably low, and it doesn't help that the acting and pacing isn't enough to create suspense to begin with. All the viewer is left with is an interesting character in a disinteresting universe.
