Cheap German Gore...I love it
goregirl68 April 2007
Okay...let me start off by saying that this film is not for everyone. If you are looking Hollywood production values, suspenseful scares, and character studies portrayed by the best the industry has to offer...you can skip this film. If you are looking for over the top gore and a fun filled hour and a half. Go for it. The idea is basically a counselor is trying a new approach to deal with troubled children so he takes them camping...so its not an original idea but what is these days terror in the woods is s staple of the genre so you know hat you are in for. Once there trouble happens the kids need help...but there is a giant alien monster in the way...Okay so it's not Ittenbach's best effects work but at least he was trying something new with monster design instead of just visceral gore. There is a nice import version available with English subs so you can follow the story...well whatever story there really is; but these films are not about story they are about horror...they are amateur releases that I feel hold true to the essence that was horror..in the same vain as Texas Chainsaw massacre, the Hills Have Eyes; Last House on the Left, Blood Shack and other...they are low budget, low value, campy films that have more heart and soul than most of the crap released in America over the past ten years. What makes these movies great is not the acting, cinematography, elaborate story..but rather the energy that is behind the production; that is still felt in the finished product..Timo Rose who made this film..loved this movie and you know it...watching it..understanding where it came from ...you can see the joy and excitement in filming and desire to tell this story...whether good or not. The truth is I would much rather watch a film that has heart, than some over-produced cookie cutter film from a director with 6 million dollars who picked up a script from someone else and says to himself..."yeah..I'll do it because it sells..the kids like horror" Space wolf belongs in that genre of horror for the love of the art...and I think people who enjoy what horror is supposed to be will enjoy this film.

Gore Mongral Movie Review: Space wolf
ChiefGoreMongral28 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
"Space Wolf" is a German Splatter Monster Movie (and I use the term monster movie loosely) that is directed by Timo Rose. Rose is notorious in the German Splatter community for his many low budget shot on video films this being one of them. Anyone into Gore Flix has more than likely heard of Permutos which the director of that film, Olaf Ittenbach, has a small cameo in this as a drunk hitchhiker and also supplied the gore effects as well.

Anyway where should I begin, This movie failed in so many ways and only a slightly better than average ending with some good gore thrown in saved this from being a very bland story about troubled youth. That's right troubled youth not a monster but troubled youth. The movie sows a generic tale of a group of troubled youths (who we get to know WAY to well for a 70 minute movie) who are taken to the woods and counseled by a guy who thinks he is Dr. Phil only better. He is betrayed by his assistant and tries to have him killed by the youths via lies and deceits. Awh and also somewhere in the mix is a spacewolf that came to earth via a meteorite ? and is SLOOOOWWWWWLLLLYYYYY killing everyone off.

What we have is a movie that sounds like a monster in the woods film only for the monster to show up for 10-15 minutes max of its running time. for the remaining hour we have to watch troubled youths argue and fight with each other, a guy who likes to run around nude (BLAH) and a fat lard who likes to answer people with belches.

The movies saving grace from being pure garbage is its nice gore shots and the monsters rampage at the end which still was kind of poorly done as the camera guy forgets how to shoot a sequence and has the camera flying around so fast you can barely make out what the heck happened.

As you can tell I was very disappointed in this film. It isn't total garbage but I did find myself ready to hit the fast forward button several times.

4/10: Just made it from being what I call a bad movie Rose puts together just enough gore sequences to not make this trash but horror and gore fans would do best looking elsewhere as this is nothing more than "Dr. Phil meets the Space Bigfoot" come to think of it that might be interesting. Dibs on Phil's Legs Space Bigfoot!! The only way to get this film is get the German DVD or go the route I did and get it "special order". I wish now that I didn't!!! Until next time Pygmies...I'm Out!!!
