Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The iconic staircase sequence, where Kayako crawls down a staircase covered in blood, is one of the scariest scenes. The music, the slow pace, tension and the unnatural way she moves all contribute to the buildup of dread.
  • The apartment sequence with Hitomi is genuinely terrifying. She's alone in her apartment, and when she tries to comfort herself with a TV, it starts to malfunction. She then hides under the covers only for Kayako to emerge from beneath and drag her away. Can be very scary for people with a fear of loneliness.
