Standard and run-of-the-mill thriller about a complex investigation to find out a series killer
ma-cortes9 May 2020
Acceptable Thriller about an expert team of criminal investigation formed by cop Tomas : Juan Fernandez, Forensic Inés : Lucia Jimenez, among others. At the police department arrives a new chief, the young Ricardo: Andoni Gracia, who was an old flame of Inés, things go wrong when Tomás to be aware this past relationship, and that's why Inés and Tomás are living a loving passion . Several killings are happening and cops have to investigate to discover the nasty culprit. This elite team of investigators work the cases using scientific skills and equipment that are capable of finding valuable clues from the most allegedly unlikely sources. Then they solve the tracks leading to participants in Roll Games.

So-so thriller based on facts, about a series killer and the cops carrying out the hard investigation. It describes the hard-working analysis lab , headed by Forensic using the best and modern means and technical methods in CSI or Crime , Scene , Investigation style . The majority of the techniques and technologies used by the expert bunch are accurate and true to reality . It seems to be the episode pilot of a TV series that never existed due to this movie achieved little success . Trio starring Lucia Jimenez, Juan Fernandez and Andoni Gracia give passable acting in this routine thriller .They are well accompanied by a fine support cast, such as Daniel Grao, Oriol Vila, Carmen Elias, Berrondo, and the veteran Mercedes Alonso.

The picture was professionally directed by Isodro Ortiz who has made a few films about terror, and thrillers . Being his first and best movie : Fausto 5.0, following : Sangre, Somne, El asesino del Parking, Eskalofrio, and his last one in 2011 :Terra baixa. Rating 5.5/10. Passable and acceptable TV movie , but only for Spanish thrillers enthusiasts

Beautifully directed TV-movie

Based on well-known true events, "Jugar a matar" is a remarkably well-directed TV-movie. Instead of filming it as an episode of any cop-themed TV-series (call it "CSI" or "El Comisario"), Isidro Ortiz has made an interesting work with framing and lighting, thus giving "Jugar a matar" a different and more cinematic air.

Lucía Jiménez is quite convincing as a member of the CSI team investigating the case, and so is Andoni Gracia as her new boss. I really didn't buy the relationship between Jiménez's character and the cop in charge of the investigation, played by Juan Fernández. They had no chemistry whatsoever, and I don't find the necessity of inserting a love story in the crime investigation plot.

Nevertheless, I found "Jugar a matar" really engaging, and very well made for a TV-movie.
