Naseeruddin Shah stated he hated the films producer. He tried to create a misunderstanding amongst Raj Babbar,Smita and himself. He would gossip about Raj to Naseeruddin then go tell Raj about the conversation. Then gossip to Naseeruddin about Smita then tell Smita about the conversation. Luckily the cast all spoke to each other and never fell pray to the producers games.
There was a story doing the rounds that director Nikhil Saini was furious with Raj Babbar. Babbar would refuse to wait for Naseeruddin Shah when ever he was late. Yet he would wait endlessly for Smita Patil just so he could say good bye. Babbar refused this allegation saying it was common courtesy with co actor to wait to say good bye. Regarding Naseeruddin he mentioned he was due to shoot else where that why he was unable to wait.
The film was originally titled "Akkar Bakkar".
Simi Garewal was offered the film but declined. Arti Gupta then signed the role.
For some odd reason, Raj Babbar began giving interviews against Naseeruddin Shah after the film released. He stated "I can justifiably feel superior to Naseeruddin, Om and all other N.S.D.actors because none of them could make a living on stage. All of them had to take up jobs else where because stage competition is stiff and actors are willing to work for free. Only stage actress's get some payment if you know what I mean. Even then i made a living as a stage actor because i was that good. Naseer and Om are good actors, but I am equally good. It is just that we work in different type of films. A "Paar"gets to see a release in Cannes, but not in every part of the country. Aaj Ki Awaaz is loved all over India, but not in Cannes. Their films get metal awards, my films get paper (money) rewards. If Naseeruddin hits out at commercial cinema, its a case of sour grapes. He did try to go commercial cinema but failed miserably. He was not accepted the way I was. He did Shakti Samanta's Khwab and looked a misfit. He did Dil Akhir Dil Hai and was jeered at by the audience. He was unsuccessful in Sunaina and allot of other commercial films. Naseeruddin might be a colleague, but he can not carry a commercial film on his shoulders. But i can do his type of films with complete ease. I would have done equally good in Masoom or Ardh Satya. Naseeruddin and I were in Tajurba and he looked totally miscast. We were together in art movie Umrao Jaan and i got more noticed in my small role. Naseeruddin should accept his limitations and stick to what works for him.
