This needs to be available on DVD!

I vividly remember this excellent documentary about the gorgeous freshwater springs of Florida. The program was very well done, and featured Bill Kurtis scuba diving in the complex network of underwater caves (definitely not for the claustrophobic!). The photography was outstanding, as it highlights the unearthly beauty of the springs, which the late Florida author/environmental activist Marjorie Stoneman Douglas aptly described as resembling "bowls of liquid light."

Florida native Kurtis' passion for the springs and concern for their survival is evident throughout. The pristine water quality of the springs is threatened by agricultural run-off and the relentless encroachment of development. This program is highly recommended, if you can find it!

OMG-Breathtaking

It has been approximately 18 years since I've seen this film, however, I still feel compelled to write a review. It was most definitely ahead of the times stretching the technology of the day to forecast water pollution 50 years into the future. My review is titled OMG because of the knowledge gained, the way the information was obtained, and what could be in store for all of mankind with an impending water crisis.

First of all, OMG who in their right mind would squeeze into a pitch black tiny hole in the ground, with absolutely no way to turn around, in search for underground water currents. Then cave-diving into these underground water currents to perform and film these experiments. Are you kidding me? If given the choice to face Freddy Krueger or cave diving in those conditions, lookout Freddie.

Secondly, the research experiment and evidence(or lack thereof) is subjective yet very compelling so it is up to you to decide just how thirsty Earthlings will be in the not so distant future. (I'm not sure what would be considered a spoiler for your taste so I'll leave it at that).

However, if the theories presented are anywhere near correct, we are headed for some scary times.

Out of curiosity I just typed "Impending Water Crisis" into Google and the first result was; "A United Nations report released Friday 3/20/15 warns of the dangers of unsustainable growth and its impact on water consumption worldwide. The clear and explicit message from the UN report implies the onset of a water crisis if we do not change our water usage habits.)

The scary part is that the worst is yet to come. According to "Polluting the Fountain of Youth" pollution over the last fifty years still has not made its way to be completely measured. With that being said, the exponential impact of global water pollution, with a fifty year lag time, needs at least a fifty year head start to fix it. If people went to war over oil, what would be a 50 year water shortage be like?

Finally, Unless there is a sequel to further the study, with 2016 technology, one can only imagine how accurate their initial findings are. I wonder what Bill Kurtis, and Jeffery & Ruby Haupt are doing these days? (I bet it would look killer in 4k too!) I wonder if we can find more info to post?
