Was it A) simply out of necessity in that they fought a "common enemy" alien ? B) some "warrior to warrior" respect thing ? or C) her female gender ? i.e. did predator only think "hunt and kill" was suitable for males?Another theory. The Predators were only hunting the Aliens and the reason the Predators killed the humans in the first place was this: the people at the whaling station were just in there way and didn't want them intervering and the ones in the Pryamid took their guns and they wanted them back. Main point, when Scar (the main Predator) met Lex (Sannaa Lathan) she gave his gun back so there was no reason to kill her and the reason why he teamed up with her was because both his bretheren were dead, he was by himself against an army of Aliens, and he probably respected her since she did a good job killing the Alien with his spear she was a good hunter and he had a better chance at surviving with her then by himself. Desperate times call for desperate measures. As this movie was loosely based on AvP: Prey, the predator recognized and respected her as a veteran warrior (although she was not in this movie), and did not view her as an enemy.
Since the Aliens are not released until the Predators take their plasma cannons from the sarcophagus, they would have had to wait for a day before they could hunt the creatures, had the gestation time been the same as in the previous Alien movies. Therefore, it would be logical for the Predators to have sped up the Alien life cycle. The manner in which they accomplished this is uncertain.(Theory 1) One possibility is that the Aliens' life cycle increase faster in the amount of oxygen they receive. In other words on planets without breathable air makes their life cycle take longer and on planets breathable air their life cycle increases faster.*Lets recap*Alien: On LV-426, which in Alien had no oxygen took 24 hours for an Alien empryo to grow and almost 24 hours for an Alien to mature. And the rest of the story continued on the Nostromo which has oxygen tanks but still different from Earth's air.Aliens: We don't see a person become emplanted by a Facehugger.Alien3: Took place on Fiornia 161 which had a tad different air then Earth which would explain why took faster then Alien but slower in AVP. The empryo in Ripley took like a week to grow probably because the Alien was a Queen and probably take longer then the other Aliens.Alien Resurrection: Like in Alien the movie took place on a ship the Areiga which has oxygen tanks but are different air then Earth which would explain why it took a few hours for the Alien at the end to break out.Alien vs. Predator: Took place on Earth with breathable air which on Earth it may take 10 1/2 minutes for the Aliens' life cycle grew so fast then on LV-426, Fiornia 161, and space ships which would explain why the Predators picked Earth because it had humans they could use and because the life cycle take 10 1/2 minutes instead of waiting 24 hours. And the Hybrid (PredAlien) inside Scar Predator took longer because it was a Queen which take longer.Aliens vs. Predator Requiem: The Facehuggers on the Predator shuttle were in space ship oxygen for who knows how long and like I said about Alien and Resurrection take longer when exposed to air tank air which is why it took a few hours for the Facehuggers' empyros longer when it was on Earth. And the rest of the Aliens were emplanted into women's bellies by the Hybrid, which was a ProtoQueen which are a stage between Chestburster and full Queen, anyway they were emplanted on Earth which took about 10 1/2 minutes.(Theory 2) It's possible that the Aliens mature faster when they've recently been born. In other words, the younger the eggs and Facehuggers the faster the Aliens grow and mature and the older the eggs and Facehuggers the longer it takes for the Aliens grow mature.*Lets recap*Alien: The eggs on the ship were maybe thousands of years old which would explain why it took 24 hours for the empryo to be emplanted and almost 24 hours for the Alien to burst from the man's chest.Aliens: We don't see anybody become emplanted by a Facehugger.Alien3: The Facehugger in that film was some kind of Queen Facehugger which means it could lay more then one empryo and a Queen. The egg was maybe a few days old and it took a few hours for the Runner (Dog Alien) to be born. As for the Queen empyro, it may take a longer time for the empryo to grow.Alien Resurrection: It seemed the military might have had the eggs for a long while and they seemed to have bred 14 Aliens (including the Alien that blew up in the escape pod and the first Alien Ripley killed) in a few hours or days. So the eggs may have been laid a few days before they used the hosts. The scene that shows the Alien eggs, if you count their were seven people emplanted and their seemed to be about 15 carco members including Pervis which means they may have bred seven at a time. One seven, then another seven, and then Pervis. Which would explain why it took till the end of the film for the Alien to burst from his chest after a few hours.Alien vs. Predator: And as for this film, the team in the sacfrictial chamber were implanted a few minutes after the eggs were laid so that may explain why they matured so fast then the Hybrid (PredAlien). The Facehugger that attacked Scar Predator was maybe a few minutes or hours old which could explain why it took the PredAlien longer then the others to be born.Aliens vs. Predator Requiem: The Facehuggers in this film were kept in tubes for who knows how long and after they found a host it took about 24 hours for the Aliens to grow. And the empryos the Hybrid laid in the women's bellys birthed a few minutes or hours later because they were just laid.My opinion is that all along the aliens have been hinted at as being engineered. If it was a weapon of war you want some time from implantation to expulsion. So that the host can get back to his own kind and spread the infection further also to make sure the little bastard doesn't pop out before the host is back where you want them to be. I think the predators may have re-engineered the alien queen in the chamber to produce quicker maturing eggs so that the predators could get there and have a shit load of hunting to do in an hour or so instead of waiting for a day doing nothing while your game grows.
A 'Predalien', an Alien that resembles a Predator. It has been established that Aliens take on certain characteristics of the host (such as bipedalism, as seen in Aliens that came from humans). This is demonstrated in "Alien 3" when a chestburster that comes out of a dog has dog-like characteristics.
They didn't bother to check. They knew he was dead, so they had no reason to believe he had a living Alien embryo inside.
The explosion of the Predator bomb could have raised the ambient temperature to a bearable level. This is actually a clever way to set up the reasons for nobody knowing about the alien/predator species until the first Alien film. The cold did affect her, when trying to run from the queen and just trying to survive in general, she would have had raised body heat and heart rate, so the cold would not have affected her right away. But after the predator ship took off, there is a high probability she froze to death. Hence why she is not in the sequel. We see her walking towards what appears to be the Snow tractor, so she might have made it. But it is left ambiguous in a sense. The reason Lex is not in the sequel is because AvPR takes place immediately after AvP. Therefore Lex would still be making her journey back to civilization while the events in AvPR are happening. She could return in AvP3.
Predators do not see infra-red without their helmets. The Predator seeing in infra-red without his helmet in Predator 2 is a goof. The Predator can see without his helmet...eventhough the environment is red. The first Predator saw Dutch just fine. Eventhough the Predator in AVP couldn't see that well without his helmet...it would be hard to miss a gigantic Queen.Predators can see fine without their helmets, it may not look fine to us, but we're human. When he takes off his mask, he sees everything in a standard. Aliens, humans, other predators would all be the same colour so to speak. The infared vision is just a visual aid to help him hunt.
The hunting ritual did not go as planned; the humans were not supposed to take the plasma cannons, the Predators were. The Predators were taking part in a 'coming of age' style ritual and were quite young (Technically teenagers). If they were skilled enough to defeat the Aliens in combat they were skilled enough to receive their plasma cannons. The first Predator was distracted with Lex and the Alien stabbed him in the back. So he was merely caught off guard. The second Predator got careless towards the end of his fight with the main Alien. He figured he had the alien trapped in it's net and was helpless, but the alien broke free as the predator was about to strike the final blow.According to AvP backstory, no predator has survived a fight with an alien with only its wristblades. Basically, these predators didn't have a chance, especially considering they weren't using acid resistant equipment.
The pyramid in the flashback was a different one.Or another group of Predators could have rebuilt it for their hunting purposes.
They are two different characters. In this movie, Lance Henricksen plays Charles "Bishop" Weyland, the co-founder of the Weyland Yutani Corporation. In "Alien 3" (which takes place several years after this movie) Henricksen plays Bishop 2, the descendant of Charles Weyland (either the son or the grandson). He took the reigns of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation when he was old enough to do so. It is not uncommon in movie lore that descendants look exactly the same as their ancestors.Bishop from "Aliens" was an Android modelled after the initial founder of the Company.Bishop II is not an android because when he is hit in the side of the head, his blood is red, but the androids in the Alien series always have white blood.
No. There are several reasons for this:1) The two ships look nothing alike; they have completely different shapes.2) The Predators look nothing like the dead alien creature ('Space Jockey') found inside the Derelict. The dead creature is several times larger, has a large proboscis and lacks the typical Predator mandibles.3) The dead alien inside the Derelict is fossilized. Fossilization takes tens of thousands of years at least; there are just 118 years between Alien Vs. Predator and Alien.4) It is unlikely that the ship would just happen to crash on LV-426 (the planet from Alien where the Derelict is found), which is located far away from Earth.5) Revealed plot details for the sequel AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem, due to be released in 2007, indicate that the Predator ship will crash on Earth, reducing chances of it being the Derelict from Alien to zero. The Predator ship is not the derelict and it was not the one that crashed in Colorado in AVPR, because the ship that crashed was a shuttle not the mother ship. There is a scene in the unrated edition of AVPR which shows the mother ship leave Earth after AVP1 and a shuttle jetison from the mother ship and back to Earth where it crashes releasing the Aliens in the town in Colorado. Why the scene with the shuttle dispatching from the mother ship was not used is unknown.
With no mention about the Queen from this movie returning in the sequel AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem, and the fact that she would be subject to tremendous water pressure (with open wounds in her armored plating), it seems likely that she died. While it is not impossible for her to rip free from the chains tying her to the sinking container, her absence in AVP2 implies that she is dead. There is also the likelihood that should she survive the pressure but not manage to escape, she would eventually starve. The Queen would not starve. She either gets crushed by the depths, freezes, or both. Which leaves it open to bringing her back. However, she would not starve for the simple fact that Aliens don't NEED food. Don't forget that the Alien eggs in the Derilict spacecraft remained dormant for thousands of years. Even though we don't see the Queen, it's implied she is there. For she had to lay the eggs. Their goal in life is simple, lay eggs, gather hosts, make more aliens. Not mate, feed, kill repeat. The reason the Alien in Alien 3 kept killing everyone was that they were all a threat to it. In Alien, there were only 6 people vs one alien. It only killed 2 of them technically; it cocooned Brett and Dallas in the extended cut, Ash was a robot, it birthed from Kane, so it only killed Lambert and Parker. In Alien 3 it was 1 alien vs roughly 30 people, plus Ripley had a queen inside of her, the Alien could afford to kill off most of the convicts to ensure the queen's safety. No, the queen would not die. Aliens can survive in outer space, so being underwater would not harm it. It was stuck, and would probably have taken a day or two to get out and get back to the mainland somewhere to start reproducing. This was the most likely reason for the queen not being mentioned in AvP:RThough the Queen would not die of drowning but the water looked very, very deep so it's possible the Queen sank so deep the preasure underwater would have probably crushed her.
In 1904 the Predators used the inhabitants of the whaling station, which Lex refers to. As for every century since the pyramid's creation this *could* be a major plothole, as the only previous bodies found inside belong to the ancient civilization. So after the civilization was wiped out, they could have abducted people and brought them to the island. Used animals, or perhaps the pyramid layed dormant until the Whaling station was built there. Then 100 years later when our technology was advanced enough, they could lure people there with the heat bloom.I don't think they abducted people but it is true they used the people from the whaling station because the people disappeared a 100 years ago in 1904 which fits with the 100 year ritual the Predators follow. Also the sarcophagus they found with Predator guns was last opened in 1904. And last in the extended edition there is an opening with whaling station in 1904 which shows a man running from a Predator and then standing between the Predator and an Alien. It was cut from the movie because the director thought it showed the creatures too soon.
The movie offers an explanation for this, albeit an incorrect one, as mentioned in the Goofs section. It is said that Antarctica (including Bouvet Island, although this is not part of Antarctica as suggested in the movie) used to be free of ice, making it habitable. However, this was several million years ago, before humans ever evolved. There is another possible explanation for this, however. As seen in the movie, the pyramid is located in a cave under the ice. Bouvet Island is prone to volcanic activity, and geothermal warmth is strong enough to melt the ice and snow in some surface areas. Geothermal warmth could have also sustained the inhabitants of the pyramid inside the cave, along with warmth produced by the Predator technology embedded in the pyramid.Though we don't actually know how old the human race is and since the civilization was in Antarctica before the humans acrossed the world after the explosion, we found no evidence there because we did not think to look and even so the evidence might have been wiped out by the Predator explosion, so it's possible the human race started a lot longer ago then we think and was wiped out so it still would be possible for the humans to build the pyramids on the Antarctica way before it iced over. But that's just me.
These could have been different clans, each with their own different hunting rituals. Furthermore, since Aliens form the 'ultimate prey' and are not easily obtainable, perhaps only the most promising hunters are eligible for this ritual. This excludes the majority of Predators from participating in this particular ritual, who may have to resort to other ways of obtaining a respectable status.Another theory is that first they hunt humans as their initiation test. If they are successful in hunting worthy humans, they then team up with two other hunters of equal standing and hunt the Aliens to become official clan members. (Though this contradicts part of the story-telling in some of the Alien vs. Predator comics/novels where humans are the ULTIMATE prey. So it would be vice-versa and the Aliens would be the initation and the humans would be the ultimate. Though the other way around makes more sense as Aliens can see predators when they're cloaked, they don't panic and even when wounded or maimed they still pose a great threat. Wheras humans are the opposite.)Another theory could be this, the mark means that you are one of the skilled hunters, which means if you slay an Alien then you are an ultimate hunter. So it could mean they did not have marking because they did not take part in the ritual and didn't mark themselves. In AvP backstories (especially AvP: Prey), the hunting of the aliens preceeds the hunting of humans. The novice hunters go with a group to hunt aliens and become 'blooded', after which they are allowed to hunt on their own. Chances are this part of the backstory was not invented before the earlier movies, and therefore would not have existed.Or he never actually killed an Alien.
For some reason that I can't yet fathom, this movie was PG-13, while both "Predator" and "Predator 2" were R. Thus, the Predators aren't actually allowed to skin their victims, so they hang them. However, "Alien Vs Predator 2" will be R, so the Predators most likely will go back to skinning their victims. They most likely just didn't have time, they strung them up to skin them but Quinn spotted them so they had to chase him down and take care of him first, and they followed him down the ice chute so they didn't bother wasting time going back up to skin their first victims.Predators are on Antarctica for hunting Aliens for a coming of age ritual, the humans are merely collateral damage and were use for breeding the Aliens.
In Predator it is said that the Predators only appear in 'the hottest years'. In Predator 2 it is said that, in the past, Predators have appeared in Iwo Jima, Beirut and Cambodia, as they are drawn to heat and conflict. While the latter two areas have a hot climate, Iwo Jima was very cold and rainy during the U.S. offensive of World War II. In addition to that, it has never been stated that Predators can not stand cold at all, so showing them in a cold area is not a contradiction at all. It just shows that, even though they prefer heat, they can also function when it is cold. Also, the cold on the surface may have been part of the challenge in the hunting ritual of AVP's Predators, and the pyramid was probably warmer. After all, it gave off a heat signal. Will the Pyramid was built in Antarctica before it iced over and so when it did they couldn't have just move it so they kept up their hunting rituals even though it was covered in ice.Dark Horse Comics released Predator: COLD WAR in the early nineties, in which, predator's hunt humans in Siberia. It should be noted, though, that comics are generally not considered canon. Also in the comic (and book of the same name) the predators crash landed in Siberia, and the crash gave off a lot of radiation warming up the surrounding area. They were not affected by the cold however.
If you think about it, the only human survivor from this movie is Lex. Most likely, no one believed her story. The Weyland-Yutani Corporation probably knew of the existance of the Aliens for some time, but they chose to keep it under wraps so they could use them for their own means.Ripley never contacted Lex's family, and the Weyland-Yutani Corporation knew better than telling her the whole story, so she had no way of knowing the existance of the Aliens prior to the events from the first movie. In Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem the possible Yutani Corporation (before it merged with Weyland) when Ms. Yutani sees the Predator gun she says "The world is not ready for the type of technology." and the Coronel says "Of course it's not for our world. Is it? Ms. Yutani." which means they were trying to keep everything on the Aliens and the Predators quiet.
It's never fully explained in the movie but the basic concept is that the Predators intentionally lured the humans to the pyramid. The Predator's pyramid emitted heat due to the technology required to run the rituals and with their intelligence they would easily know that humans used satelites to locate mineral deposits and that these satelites could also detect heat, they knew that this would attract the humans attention and cause them to investigate by sending a team. One possibility is that the Pyramid wasn't used for the hunting rituals since the ancient civilization went extinct. Until the whaling station was unknowingly built over top of it. The predators saw this opportunity and utilized it. In 2004 the world's technology was advanced enough that they could lure humans there. If the Pyramid WAS in use all the way up to 2004 it is possible that they used wildlife or abducted humans.
It is true that Aliens can sense an Alien empryo inside a person like in Alien 3 when the Dog Alien wouldn't kill Ripley because she had an Alien Queen inside her.The reasons why the Queen killed her was simple. Well, first the Queen stabbed Scar Predator in the stomach not in the chest where the Alien embryo grows and second the embryo could have been fully developed which means even after the Predator's death the Alien still could survive like in Alien 3 when the Dog Alien tried to kill Riply at the end because the embryo inside of her had probably fully developed or even when Lex killed Sebastian the Chestburster still broke out of him just to have its neck broken by Scar Predator.
She likely was too big to fit through some of the corridors which is why we don't see her until that point so she likely had began tunneling her way out as soon as she got loose, given the acid, that would make creating a hole much quicker. So she was protected from the explosion when tunneling
Max. Since he was Weyland's second in command and when Celtic Predator attacked Lex, Sebastian, Weyland, and Max he only killed Max probably because he was carrying the guns which would explain why he didn't kill Sebastian or Weyland and the reason why Chopper/Gill Predator went after Lex because Weyland gave her one of the guns. The only reason why Scar Predator attacked all of them in the statue hall was because there were too many of them and they had guns so he had to kill all of them to get to the guns. The reason why Celtic and Chopper/Gill didn't kill Sebastian and Weyland was beacuse they didn't have the guns and since there only four of humans only one with weapon against two Predators there was no need to kill the two who weren't carrying their guns.
It was confirmed by writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson that Schwarzenegger was going to reprise his role as Dutch and appear at the end of the film if he lost his election, but since he won he turned down the role and was written out of the script. It is unknown how he was going to make his appearance. It's possible that he would appear at the whaling station to investicate the loss of communication with the Weyland team and the explosion at the whailing station since he was the leader of a rescue team in Predator, he would have probably arrived at the whailing station to find Lex after her meeting with the Predator tribe and probably took her back to the boat. But that's just me.
