The Kentucky Derby, complete with oversized hats and mint juleps, takes place on Saturday, May 3 at the Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.
140th Kentucky Derby
The favored horse to win the Triple Crown race is currently California Chrome, which is a 5-2 choice. Jockey Victor Espinozo will ride the favorite horse, which has won his last four races. If California Chrome wins, it will be the fourth California-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby.
Wicked Strong is the second pick at 6-1; Danza and Intense Holiday are tied in the third pick spot at 8-1; Tapiture is 12-1 pick; Candy Boy is at 15-1.
On Thursday Bob Baffert’s Hoppertunity, which was to be ridden by jockey Mike Smith, was a 6-1 second-place pick prior to Thursday when it was discovered that the horse had a tenderness in his left front foot. To complete the standard 20-horse field, Pablo Del...

The Kentucky Derby is kind of a mash-up between a royal wedding (over-the-top hats), the Oscars (star power) and, umm, a horse race. And Hollywood loves a horse race.
With the 2011 Kentucky Derby set to take place on Saturday (May 7) at Louisville's Churchill Downs, several celebs have already confirmed plans to attend this year's festivities.
"I do have a hat," said "Private Practice" actress Kate Walsh in an interview with Kentucky newspaper The Courier-Journal. "I have a couple of options, but I think I have my hat. It's coming in from La. I've seen pictures of it. I'm tracking my hat ... almost like the hat is gonna race. I know it's a very big deal."
Also expected to sip mint juleps at this year's derby: Wynonna Judd, LeeAnn Womack, Travis Tritt, Miranda Lambert, Salt-n-Pepa, Nick Lachey, Joey Fatone, The Jonas Brothers, Kate Gosselin and -- perhaps the most promising guest of all -- Tracy Morgan.
