I watched this show for years on BBC1 on a Friday knight and it was great entertainment. The cream of the teams who won the heats of the local version of it's a Knock out come together to battle it out to be crowned the champions of a more entertaining Euro pantomime version of the Olympics. The teams usually dressed in outrageous, movement denying costumes compete against one another in crazy physical games to the joy of the hosts and viewers. I'm sure the local hospitals were kept busy as many of the obstacles looked dangerous to navigate, but it made great TV.

'Jeux Sans Frontières' (which means 'Games Without Frontiers' or 'Games Without Borders' in french) is a Europe-wide television game show that is no longer in the air, but belongs to my memories of childhood. It was aired in many countries and all with the same opening credits and opening music. The opening credits were very pretty, creative, imaginative and brilliantly animated. That was combined with glorious and unforgettable music. Ah, those times...
I had no idea that this started in 1965. Boy, that was ages before I was born! Anyway, it was a fun and entertaining game show to watch. It was something like Olympic games, featuring teams from different European countries in costumes appropriate for the occasion, competing to complete original tasks in funny games.
This is one of those game shows which most people would sit and watch, most of the family included. It's a memory of days we will never see again. Even so, the show was still in the air in my early adolescence days (it was until 1999).
The idea of this show is said to have come from the President of France Charles de Gaulle, who wanted French and German to meet in a series of funny games to make the friendship between these countries more solid. Some games were played in swimming pools. The idea of these games was soon brought to all Europe (successfully).
