Sex & Nudity

  • This show stays historically accurate in which high class men would sleep with women without consequences. Some sexual scenes early on, but the amount of sex scenes greatly decreases after the first few episodes.
  • Graphic full frontal male nudity.
  • Less nudity and erotic content than many other historic drama series from premium cable channels.
  • Female full frontal Nudity Is prolonged and some women have dresses that reveal their naked form.

Violence & Gore

  • Graphic scene of trepanning.
  • Numerous gory moments scattered throughout, but many battles, killings and moments of brutality are abbreviated or occur off-camera, making the series much tamer than what the scripts proffered.
  • Gladiator-style fight scenes sometimes with moderately graphic results.

Profanity

  • Excessive strong language in every episode, as to be expected for an HBO original. Alongside the non-stop uses of words like "Fuck", "Shit", etc., "Cunt" is said a numerous amount of times.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The characters drink alcohol in various scenes. There are scenes of opium and cannabis being smoked.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • While infrequent, the violence is quite intense.
