The message is hackneyed, the narration forced and stilted, the artwork surprising
rzajac11 May 2011
I give the work a few stars out of deference to the awesome graphic work.

But, of course, it's all a sort of cosmic shadow play with laughably cartoony images and a level of nagging graphic and narrative recrimination suggesting not a little spiteful hate against nothing less than the human race itself. Well, that sucks. Add to that the idea that one's "salvation" comes down to choosing the right one of two shadows and swearing one's fealty thereto, and you have a real loser.

The narrator has the rudiments of voice talent, but lacks the soul of true talent; an ability to render the text in a manner that reflects a sensitivity to its deep meaning. Of course, the story doesn't have a deep meaning, so perhaps he's let off the hook on this point.

I sometimes think about how, whenever fundamentalist Christians collect some money in a bid to snatch a few eyeballs away from the Hollywood juggernaut, something goes wrong. What goes wrong is that, when it comes down to it, what wins or loses in this game is an honest attention to aesthetic values. Now, I'm NOT saying "Hollywood" is a paragon of taste--Lord, I'd never say *that*! I'm just saying Christians will have to do more than toss money at their divine wishes. They'll need to commandeer genuine artistic values to make it come true. A dogged insistence on doctrinally pure production staff is the perennial downfall of these efforts.

If a Catholic, or Muslim, is a better script doctor, then So Be It.

Sensationalistic Garbage

Chick tries way too hard with the whole "turn or burn" method to be taken seriously. I suppose the religious/spiritual types may buy into this but an Atheist like me just gets amused from it. The sound effects were OK, the paintings are incredible, but the message is tired, boring, and just unrealistic unless you are brainwashed like most Christians I know.

I would rather watch the Passion (which I didn't, but I have seen enough clips to know it's just as bad) than this piece of crap again. Though I must admit Fred Carter can definitely paint. Too bad his talents are wasted on such drivel.

Don't be fooled by the title: this is about hell, not Christ
Wally Paradise22 September 2008
Jack Chick's tracts are ugly affairs intent on scaring people into heaven, and this film is no different. He seems to think that, instead of making a case for repentance and salvation through Jesus, it's enough to just make a case against burning in hell. That is not the sort of thing that inspires true life transformation. As a Christian, I find this film embarrassing and a detriment to our cause.

Contrast _Light of the World_ with _The Passion of the Christ_. Both go heavy on the startling imagery, to be sure. But where _The Passion of the Christ_ portrays the depth of suffering Christ was willing to endure for our sake (and therefore, the depth of His love), _Light of the World_ seeks only to hint at the suffering the viewer will experience if she or he rejects Jesus. It's the difference between a message and a threat.

absolutely the worst, makes 'the little panda fighter' look like a masterpiece

Warning: Spoilers
This is a contender for the title of worst film of all time. It is a ludicrous mess of propaganda that has no logic to back up the viewpoints expressed and the artwork is comical. The logic seems to be 'do what I say or go to hell' which is absurd. There is no evidence for the existence of hell, god, Jesus, or many other things mentioned in this slideshow, and jack chick has proved himself to be a very unpleasant individual. If you want a film about space fascists (which is essentially what this 'god' character is) just watch space mutiny (not a good film, but better than this rubbish).

Great evangelical film
mlv-919 April 2006
I watched "Light of the World" as a skeptic - sure that it would not hold a candle to other "still photo" film productions. I was pleasantly surprised! Not only was the art work exceptional, but the sound tract and editing made for a compelling and thought-provoking presentation of the Biblical story of Creation, Fall, Promise and Redemption in Christ.

While the pace was a trifle slow at times, the subject matter and timeless story more than made up for it. This film's purpose is to bring sinners to a realization of their guilt, and show them God's love and provision for their forgiveness, leading them to salvation and eternal life. It is so much more than the tracts for which Jack Chick is famous - this film will draw countless people to a right relationship with Jesus Christ. I highly recommend it.

An incredibly touching rendition of what is really happening in the world. True to the Bible. This is the ultimate revelation of reality with awesome oil painting visuals!
ryanawarner3 December 2017
Have you ever wondered about the meaning of life. Why am I here? Why does every person do evil? Is there good and evil in the universe? Does God exist, and if so, why does he not fix the whole world right now? Why do I feel hopeless and dirty? Can religion fix the problem, or is it merely a trap? Is there a way out?

This movie which can be ordered from Chick.com or seen on Youtube ANSWERS these questions, as well as many more life questions that we all may have pondered at some time. The oil paintings that accompany the narration are truly awesome, giving beautiful and entertaining visuals to the history of the Word of God in The KJV Bible. They portray the history of human life, the origin of evil, Satan, and sin,the origin of the earth and animals, the origin and struggles of the Jewish people, what happens to people after they die, the good news of God appearing as a man,and His plan to save any who will believe in His son Jesus! The also give sight to the ultimate judgment of all people, the saved and the damned, punishment of Satan, his devils and demons, and the unrepentant, and go on to show the restoration of the entirety of creation including the earth and entire universe!

This movie shows us the ultimate reality of our Creator, our universe, and ourselves. There is nothing more important than knowing what is really going on in life, so that we may make the right choices for the destiny or our eternal souls. It may be the most important movie you ever see!
