Raindrops keep falling on my Head
That's your most efficient streamlined shape according to this industrial film, an early effort of the Jam Handy Organization for their long-time client, Chevrolet. There are some technically interesting points to it. They show you a wind tunnel and then demonstrate turbulence using a water pan and some aluminum powder. It's very nice, highly visual and about the level of high-school physics forty years ago when I was taking the course. It still makes a nice refresher.
This short ignores the point of contemporary design, in which design to reduce air drag was a talking point and almost decorative in its actual use: the one real use of air drag design was the Chrysler Airflow, and that was a failure unrivaled until Ford produced the Edsel, more than two decades later. It was a beautifully silly-looking thing.
