If one thing becomes clear about Steven Spielberg when you watch these short documentaries by Laurent Bouzereau, it's that he likes to hire people based on their work on other pictures he enjoyed. In this case, the guys from the computer graphic company 'Imaginary forces', who created the main titles for David Fincher's 'Seven' were hired to put the story important Precog visions on screen. And so we meet Kurt Mattila and Matt Checkowski who proceed to explain how they went to work.
The first image that sprang to their collective minds was to treat the visions as 'live Polaroid's'. They talked to some actual cognitive psychologist as research and learned that a persons mind tends to go into 'fight or flight mode' when confronted with a dangerous situation, meaning that the details become very fragmented when recollected at a later date. Kurt & Matt's main job was to envision the three murder scenes that were integral to the storyline, but they also worked on an extensive database of murders which can be glimpsed in bits and pieces at the Hall of Containment. Let's hope neither one of them brought their job home with them at the end of the day.
On a lighter note, Tom Cruise pops up to share his thoughts on the Johnny Mnemonic hand moves he used while portraying John Anderton, Precog Chief turned man on the run. John Underkoffler served as the Science and Technology adviser for that part. He came up with a way for Tom to use his hands like conducting a symphony.
