Just to Clarify the Record
elenaroche23 April 2006
Hello, This is Warren Roche. I would like to clarify the record on Elena's and my participation in this documentary. Elena and I did not meet through a marriage agency. I have a collection of Russian Icons and was in Moscow to see the city and the museums. I was also open to meeting a younger woman with more traditional values who would be interested in and capable of having a large family. In Los Angeles, California I couldn't even get arrested trying to find this combination and had given up. I happened by pure chance to walk into a shop that Elena was managing, a costume shop that was located in the foyer of an opera house in Moscow. As a former professional musician I was intrigued that a commercial shop would be located in such an unlikely location. When I saw Elena I commented to my guide that if I were to meet a woman, that would be the type (at least as far as looks) that I would be interested in. My guide took the initiative and arranged a meeting between us. That was in September of 1996. Now, in 2006, we are still happy as clams, have five children and are planning one more. We were introduced to Shannon, the documentary director, as a "Russian-American" marriage success by a former tenant of ours who was a producer on "Survivor". We have had numerous people who have seen the documentary contact us through the phone book or at Elena's website for her art (Google "Elena Roche"). They have uniformly commented that they were inspired and heartened by our success.
