Exquisite nightmare Warning: Spoilers
I normally don't care for things that are completely centred on dancing, but "La Chambre"(The Room) rapidly distinguished itself as one of the most stunning, atmospheric and masterful short films that I have ever had the great pleasure to see. After watching it, I was very surprised to learn that it's never got any other attention here on the Database, as it's simply sheer brilliance. It's shot in a very stylish way that just oozes effortless Gothic cool. A woman, alone in the dead of night, lies alone in her heavily-shadowed room. Whilst possibly dreaming, she finds herself surrounded by gyrating, scantily-clad women who all look as though they could almost be clones of herself. All of these mysterious phantom women are bizarrely embedded in the surrounding walls, and then they all suddenly engage in a sort of dance... I love the artistically and lovingly arranged choreography of that dance. It's so provocative and hauntingly beautiful. We are taken on a journey of one of the most darkly divine, spellbinding displays of feminine beauty and grace ever seen. It's as if they're all one moving, breathing living entity. And the noises that are heard as they perform the aggressive unified movements are like the crashing waves of a sea. They really captured something rich here, it's a twisted and grand kind of poetry in motion... ::: Joelle Bouvier didn't have to create any hellish visions, or grotesque laughable imagery to make her short film amazing and memorable-least I didn't think so. All she had to do was to capture the essence of dark sensuality with a primal, surreal dance of shadows... The result is a ten minute long work that is sublime and almost like something unto a nightmare that I personally found to be damn-near pitch-perfect in execution. Absolutely fascinating, soul-stirring, and unforgettable. I feel such kinship with the rare truly exceptional short works of art such as this when I am fortunate enough to discover them.
