. . . most of THE ESSENTIAL GOOF is devoted to a voice-over guy reading the long-ago--that is, 1935--words of the man who arguably was Goofy's character designer, Art Babbitt. Now that the calendar pages have turned to the year 2022, Babbitt's Goofy talk was first heard "four score, and seven years ago," to quote some dude named Hal. According to Art, Goofy is "an everlasting optimist, a gullible Good Samaritan, a half-wit, a shifty, good-nature'd hick. Goofy is the type of gentleman who would use extraneous apostrophes to prevent defective spell checkers from underlining correct usages.
