Jeanne Crain: Lighthearted movies vs. real life tragedies (photo: Madeleine Carroll and Jeanne Crain in ‘The Fan’) (See also: "Jeanne Crain: From ‘Pinky’ Inanity to ‘Margie’ Magic.") Unlike her characters in Margie, Home in Indiana, State Fair, Centennial Summer, The Fan, and Cheaper by the Dozen (and its sequel, Belles on Their Toes), or even in the more complex A Letter to Three Wives and People Will Talk, Jeanne Crain didn’t find a romantic Happy Ending in real life. In the mid-’50s, Crain accused her husband, former minor actor Paul Brooks aka Paul Brinkman, of infidelity, of living off her earnings, and of brutally beating her. The couple reportedly were never divorced because of their Catholic faith. (And at least in the ’60s, unlike the humanistic, progressive-thinking Margie, Crain was a “conservative” Republican who supported Richard Nixon.) In the early ’90s, she lost two of her...

There was a time when superheroes were not very popular. They were not grossing $1 billion at the worldwide box office. They were not inspiring Pulitzer Prize-winning novels. They were not getting attention for their sexual orientation. In the late ’90s, following the catastrophic burst of the comic book bubble, the whole industry that created superheroes seemed to be flailing towards extinction.
But in the last decade, costumed crimefighters haven’t just become popular again. They have colonized the mainstream. Once pure geek fodder, the tropes of superherodom — the origin story, the superpowers, the costume(s), the various conflicting interpretations — have...

Today From Software released a patch for their top selling franchise Dark Souls that will be available for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. This patch is being released in both Us and Pal. There are tons of different changes to the game, some will increase certain abilities other changes will decrease weapons or magic abilities.
Patch 1.05 is essentially the same patch that was released in Japan earlier this year, though here may be a few differences but they are unknown at this time. I have yet to play Dark Souls still, but after all the praise the game has gotten I will definitely need to move it up on my to do list. Probably during the Christmas lull is when I will get to the game, I just have so many great games I need to play it is unbelievable. Does anyone who has played the game have any recommendations...

The good folks at Arrow have been in touch with details of the forthcoming releases for October including what is, for me, The essential purchase of month – Maniac Cop on Blu-ray!
Maniac Cop (Arrow Video)
Police brutality never felt so good. Notorious video nasty creator William Lustig and B-Movie legend Larry Cohen return to the dirty streets for a unique high speed collision of the slasher movie and police thriller in Maniac Cop, a blood splattered tale of brutal cop vengeance from beyond the grave.
When reports come in of a man in a police uniform committing gore drenched bloody murder on the city streets, officer Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) stands accused. Now, with few friends, powerful enemies and a psychopathic slayer still at large, it’s up to Jack to prove he’s not guilty and bring down the killer.
Now, Arrow Video brings the Maniac Cop back from...

Who is Supergirl? Supergirl had many incarnations, the most prominent is Kara Zor-El, The cousin of Superman, survivor of Krypton's Argo City. And like her cousin she chose to stand for truth, justice and the American way! First Supergirl In Superboy #5 (November–December 1949) in a story titled "Superboy Meets Supergirl," Superboy met Queen Lucy Regentof a fictional latin american nation. She was a stellar athlete and scholar. Tired of her duties and wanting to enjoy a normal life, Queen Lucy traveled to Smallville where she met Superboy and soon won his heart. Maybe a little time off is all they needed. Bar Refaeli says that though she went through a "tough time" after splitting up with boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio for six months, their relationship ultimately emerged stronger. "It was a half year for which I am very grateful," the Israeli supermodel, 24, tells her country's top-selling L'Isha magazine. "I needed it. I came to understand a lot of things about myself. " "I worked on myself [and] I grew up," Refaeli says. "I didn't know what 'alone' was like. Today I know that a relationship can work only if you know you can be alone and you are not afraid.
