Wouldn't It Be Nice?
mdm-1114 September 2006
Another romantic Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore pairing. These two certainly have the magic, even more so than Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan. This film, however definitely requires much more of a stretch of imagination than most incredible stories. Fans of the leads who can suspend their disbelief to the maximum, are likely to enjoy this uplifting love story, as well as a very pleasant Beach Boys sound track.

Drew Barrymore recovers from a tragic car crash, however is rendered with total memory loss striking her anew each morning. Sandler meets her by chance and the two hit it off immediately. To Sandler's sad surprise, his new love does not remember him at all the very next day. Eventually Sandler finds out what is wrong, and is determined not only to have Barrymore fall in love with him all over again each day, but also to find a "cure" for her affliction.

There are many discrepancies in this film. Barrymore loses her memory each morning, but always remembers her immediate surroundings, including her father and brother, which is not logical. She lives on a small Hawaiian island, which fortunately is also the location of a unique "institute" specializing in patients suffering from various forms of acute memory loss. How convenient.

If you can look beyond these flaws, you are in for a bitter sweet ending that is as magical as it is unexpected. In the words of Annette Funicello: Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful!

Sandler is just plain funny

OK first review on a comedy. I am not much on comedy but I am however with Adam Sandler. Once again his movies have a great sound track (the boy knows his music). and some very funny scenes. I don't know about you but I really thought that Drew Barrymore looked very very good in this movie. I thought this movie had a good mix between sandler and barrymore and being a comedy (do not have much plot lines) this movie was one of sandlers better movies. I noticed at the end that he dedicated this movie to his dad I did not know that he passed away. Anyways I hope when I reach 80 (IF I DO) and I am listing to the soundtrack on some kick ass future spaceage equipment I will still rock on to 80's music that would 1980-1989.............

50 First Dates was 49 too many for me ! Warning: Spoilers
One day Adam Sandler sees cute mental case Drew Barrymore in a restaurant playing with her breakfast . he helps her put a door on her house of waffles . oh yeah, they both are sweeter than maple syrup . next day it's deja'vu all over again . he sees her again same place, same time, same waffles , same nonsense . later we learned that Lucy (Barrymore) had her brains scrambled in a car wreak on October 13th, ten years earlier . Lucy suffers from short term memory loss and forgets everything that happened right after the accident . so we have another Groundhog Day situation where everyday is October 13. with the help of her dad and brother, they recreate October 13th every single day for her . i guess they had lots of free time on hand . the rest is a predictable romance between womanizer Sandler and brain damaged Barrymore. i recently saw this on DVD . i would recommend this movie only to die hard Adam Sandler fans . Not Hot
