Carlos Carrera, mostly known by his controversial film "The Crime of Padre Amaro", started his career doing animated shorts. So far, I have seen two of them, "El Héroe" and this.
"De Raíz" is an interesting animated allegory, thanks to its incredibly haunting atmosphere: Even the unpolished quality of the animation works in its favor, giving it a certain nightmarish vibe.
I liked the way the ending included a glimmer of hope, even if the final scene might be a little bit "cartoonish" compared with the grimness of the first part of the short.
Still, a pretty solid example of Mexican animation.
