(NOTE: The people behind Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans were NOT at
all involved in this film.)
Superhero Movie delivers jokes so rapidly in it's first half that you
almost forget how good a time you've had after a slower ending. Still,
I can say with assurance that you'll get more laughs out of this than
any other film currently in theatres.
What makes Superhero Movie particularly interesting is that it was
written and directed by only one person, much unlike the Scary Movies,
which all took 3 - 6 writers to complete. Craig Mazin mostly succeeds
with his particularly irreverent brand of humor, and this is notable
considering that he is spoofing material that doesn't exactly lend
itself to parody.
Sure, I could find some things to complain about (the hit-and-miss
humor becomes a little tired), but the bottom line is that this movie
is still immeasurably better than what the spoof genre has been putting
out lately (Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet The Spartans...) We can see
that there is intelligence and wit behind Superhero Movie, whereas
Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer's lame efforts are completely void of
both.
If you're looking for a good time and more than a fair share of big
laughs, your money will be well spent on this one.

I really liked this one. I wasn't expecting much, being worn out on
spoof movies lately because of the layer of crap that's been dropped on
us, the movie-going public. "Epic Movie","Date Movie","Meet the
Spartans" all sucked.
That being said, the people who made this, made the latter-day Zucker-
styled comedies(a la Airplane, The Naked Gun) Scary Movie 3 & 4, and
not those other "Movie" movies (which are the domain of Jason Friedberg
& Aaron Seltzer).
There were parts of this movie where I laughed so hard I could barely
breathe. And that happens SO rarely with comedies lately. Seriously, I
laughed hard.
But, it was one of those things that will entertain but never be a
classic you'd bother watching again. It was a bit forgettable in that
way.

If "Superhero Movie" gives you the same giddy, guilty-pleasure feeling
as "Airplane!" and the "Naked Gun" movies, it's no accident. Some of
those movies' personnel who were also involved in two lesser "Scary
Movie" sequels show up here. (Those include writer-director Craig
Mazin, who happily has come a long way from 1997's abysmal
"Rocketman.")
The movie's title says it all. It's a comedy that takes a well-known
hit (in this case, "Spider-Man"), turns it inside out, and uses it as a
clothesline for gags. In this parody version, nerdy Rick Riker (amiable
Drake Bell of cable-TV's "Drake and Josh") gets bitten by a mutant
dragonfly, turning him into...well, take a guess. Meanwhile, a
well-meaning scientist (Chris McDonald) turns nasty when his experiment
backfires and he finds he must sap others' life-blood in order to keep
himself alive.
As is typical of such parodies, the movie's approach is as subtle as a
spitball gun. Some of the gags are terrific, and some are groaners. But
they're all fired at such a rapid pace that after a while, you have no
choice but to give in to the silliness. The characters are like
shooting-gallery ducks waiting to have parody lobbied at them. Best of
the bunch are Rick's well-meaning but dotty uncle and aunt
(delightfully played by Leslie Nielsen and "Happy Days'" Marion Ross).
The most pitiable is a take-off on disabled genius Stephen Hawking, who
seems to push Mazin's bad-taste button over and over ad nauseum.
This leads me to the movie's most required caveat. While the flick is
mostly silly fun, it pushes its "PG-13" rating right up to the edge of
the "R" cliff. The movie is larded with sexual gags and profanity
abound, and what might possibly be cinema's longest-ever flatulence
gag.
But if you can bear up under the cringe factor, "Superhero Movie" is
mostly high-powered fun. Nifty comedy here runs neck-and-neck with bad
taste. It's a close race, but the comedy wins.
"Superhero Movie" is rated PG-13 for countless sex and drug references,
crude humor, and adult language.

It doesn't make any sense, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans
are all candidates for my worst movie of all time. So why did I enjoy
this movie so much? I don't like the cast but they work incredibly hard
to make a half decent script into something highly amusing. A welcome
return for Zucker style silliness and less pathetic attempts at
parodies, there are also hints at intelligent humour and nods to other
classic spoofs. There is also a truly hilarious moment involving Tom
Cruise played to perfection by Miles Fisher.
Seriously it is truly hilarious in places, I am surprised but by no
means ashamed to recommend this for anyone in need of a topical or
silly laugh.

I had wanted to see this movie for quite some time, and when I finally
got the chance, I found that I enjoyed most of it. This movies
basically follows the Spider-man movie line by line, with a few
deviations leading into the X-men and The Fantastic Four. THe Camera
Work was great, and I could tell that they had good directing. Many of
the jokes are cheesy, but will still make you laugh. Honestly, don't go
into this movie thinking that it's just like Epic movie, Date movie, or
Meet the Spartans, it is much better. I personally believe that it is
worth the title of Scary Movie successor. Another plus would be the
excellent lighting.
Overall, I think it's worth your time, it's got plenty of laughs. I
would not suggest it for younger kid's, as several adult content jokes
are made.

The recent spoof movies like Date move, Epic movie and Meet the spartan
and now Superhero movie. There are two types of spoof movies- crappy
spoofs like Epic movie and Meet the Spartan which have almost no plot
just the stupid and disgusting jokes chunk into 1 hour and 15 minutes
and the other type is the serious spoof movies like Scary movie and the
recent Superhero movie which have the element of the movies they spoof,
Superhero movie is spoofing about superheroes and it mainly do that and
it is good to see them do a main spoof not like Epic movie or Meet the
spartan where the director just chunk any movie into it.
The story: It has the potential to develop its story but it just
chooses to stick to its usual spoof plot, disgusting plus sex jokes and
stupid unrealistic plot. It mainly spoof spider-man and other
superheroes like Fantastic 4, X-men and many more as the background
spoof. Since it mainly spoof on Spider-man, you will know what the
story is. I find it quite disappointing, I expected some fight scenes
which it does not really feature. The trailers look promising but it
does not really live up to my expectations.
Overall: It is not a bad spoof movie but it can do much better of
developing the story. It is currently one of the best spoof movies
recently. Those who like spoof movies including Meet the spartan, they
should catch this. Those finding a comedy, probably this would perk you
up and do not expect much. Those who totally hate spoof movies, they
should probably rent it on DVD if they feel bored. Try not to expect
too much, just leave your brain at the door and relax watching it.

Superhero Movie was not even close to as good as I thought it would be.
Although I didn't like it im not going to lie it was pretty funny
throughout the whole movie. I thought that it would have had more of a
point to it. It made fun of only one movie and that was Spider Man.
This had to honestly be the shortest movie I have ever seen. They might
say its 1 hour and 20 minutes but it doesn't even get to that. The
previews took up 10 minutes and then 1 hour of the movie. I really
wasn't that mad that it wasn't that long because if it was it would
have been worse. The only thing that really saved this movie were a
couple of the characters in it. I think that one more bad thing about
the movie was that they didn't show enough of the good characters in
it. Sara Paxton really was the one who saved this movie. She was very
pretty once again. I think that out of all the scary movies, Meet The
Spartans, Epic Movie, and Date movie this was the worst yet. They all
also seem to be very short for some reason. I think that they run out
of things to put in the movies. In this movie thought they kept making
each scene to long. In each of the funny scenes it was like wow thats
funny then 20 seconds later it would still be going on, it was like
just end the scene. When you go into this kind of movie though you have
to expect a short and stupid movie. This was probably the most stupid
movie I have ever seen. This was definitely not worth 10 dollars on
going to see. If you need to go see this only spend like 7 dollars or
wait for DVD. Overall this was a stupid and pointless movie thrown in
with a couple good laughs.

I came to my movie theatre wanting to see the movie, 21. But sadly, it
was sold out, so I settled for Superhero Movie. Hearing that one of my
favorite stars, Sara Paxton was in it, I figured why the hell not? I
was with my friends, so if it was awful, I could just make fun of it
with them.
I was expecting stupid cheesy jokes, like Meet The Spartans, but I have
to admit, there were some quality laughs in this! (I loved how they
spoofed Perez Hilton for that one second.) This is actually a very
funny movie with some good humor in it, and even though they have the
occasional stupid fart or crotch joke, even a very mature person who
doesn't enjoy "bathroom humor" found some of it actually kind of
laughable.

Okay so with David Zucker attached to this film (only as a producer), a
lot of people may have heard the name and mistaken this for one of his
actual films. Well be warned, this is one of those cheap nasty
"comedies" that try and con people into the theaters and then just spew
out regurgitated comedy by numbers while hardly deviating from the plot
of whatever movie they have chosen to parody (or rip off may be
better). This is not a touch even on the weaker Zucker films of later
years and seems to be from the minds of people that have only heard of
comedy but never really understood how it works. Shame on Zucker for
putting his name on this rubbish.
If that wasn't bad enough, this movie is a parody of the first
spiderman movie. Yes the one that came out six years ago and has had
two sequels since then. So it doesn't even manage to be topical. Had
this come out in 2003 it may have at least scored points for being
relevant (which would have still made the film disposable with no
chance of anyone remembering it years later, but for the first viewing
some of the direct parody may have amused people briefly). Sure they
threw in the odd additional hero, but only as quick visual gags with no
real depth and most of those characters were direct copies of the
characters they parodied and played out the most obvious jokes.
Essentially the film is a highly stripped down copy of Spiderman with a
handful of jokes thrown in.
Of course we should have suspected. When they were hyping this they
talked about it like it was the first superhero comedy, while that is a
long way from the mark. My suggestion if you want to see an actually
good superhero comedy is to check out "Mystery Men" instead.
Finally a word about Leslie Nielson. You should have figured by now
that Leslie will pretty much do anything. While his skill at delivering
any line or action with a straight face is second to none, that ability
alone doesn't make for good comedy. He needs the right script and like
many of his comedies this wasn't it. Having said that, he is still
probably the funniest thing in this movie, but then he could have
achieved that had he just stood in an empty room and read a bus time
table to us.

In 1938 America was introduced to Superman. Ever since then, people
have been inspired by superheroes to do the right thing. Now, 70 years
later, the world is introduced to a new superhero. But this is no
ordinary superhero; he's a superhero making fun of other superheroes,
and he's known simply as Dragonfly.
In "Superhero Movie," we get another dose of new-age David Zucker work,
complete with unfunny pop culture references and hit-or-miss slapstick.
This time we follow Rick Riker, played by Drake Bell, who is bitten by
a radioactive firefly and gains superpowers. After a bunch of cameos,
he decides to become a superhero and fight the forces of evil.
Unfortunately, he's a hazard to himself and others, so he's not really
much help.
This film proves just how many jokes you can fit into one movie. It's
as if they couldn't decide which jokes to use, so they just used all of
them they could think of. The problem with this is that the film seems
to rush from start to finish and you never get a chance to breathe.
It's annoying that you can't get every gag and you can't take a short
break, but at least you won't stop being entertained.
This movie could have been better if it had been taken slower. If they
had put in less pop culture references (interesting that they act as if
they know everything about the Internet yet they don't know that people
can't stand these sort of things) and more quality jokes like in
Zucker's golden days, they would have a much better standing and much
better reviews. I wanted to like this movie, I really did. But it's
hard to like something when you find so much wrong with it. It's worth
a watch, but it's just another "Movie" movie.
