Not among Snub's best...but still worth seeing.
During the late 1910s, Snub Pollard co-starred in a bunch of Harold Lloyd's early shorts. However, by 1920, Lloyd was becoming VERY popular and soon left the studio to make his own films. This was a very smart decision by Lloyd...but left Pollard to scramble. Fortunately, Hal Roach's studio decided to give Snub his own shorts...and some of them, such as "It's a Gift" (1923) are classics. Is "Cracked Wedding Bells" also a classic?
The film begins with Snub forgetting to attend his own wedding! Finally, he arrives...only to have forgotten the ring! The bulk of the film consists of him trying very hard to get that darned ring!
Unfortunately, the copy I found of this film on YouTube is VERY poor due to degredation...common in old nitrate films. It's very blurry and the opening credits appear to have been added later...the same with the inter title cards...which is good because they are quite readable.
Snub is assisted in this short with the help of young (and cute) Ernest Morrison...who also appeared in several Lloyd films as well as many of the early Our Gang comedies.
This is reasonably funny film. However, I also want to point out that it has the darkest ending I have ever seen in a silent comedy!!! I'm talking black hole dark!!
