Pretty Cool!
SonicStuart24 November 2004
At first when I started seeing ads for Dragon Booster saying that it was coming to ABC Family I wasn't sure if was going to be anything good. But when I checked out the pilot episode I thought the series was good. This series is about a teenager named Artha Penn who lives in a timeless world where dragons and humans co-exist. Artha Penn was plunged into a extraordinary adventure when he was the chosen one to ride Beaucephalis, the dragon of legend (or sometimes called Beau for short). It was then Artha's life was changed when he transformed into a legendary hero known as the Dragon Booster! Artha's quest is to save the world from a war and uniting dragons and humans forever and racing to win dragon races where the 12-ton reptiles go fast at 200 miles per hour. The animation I thought was really well done and the voice acting is not bad! But all and all it is a pretty neat cartoon!

Control the dragon control the world
grandascent16 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Dragons. Now and for a long time a popular mythical creature. It has been fairly common for fantasy settings to involve controlling and taming these beasts. The idea of riding a flying, armoured fire breather is quite appealing.

Dragon booster however takes this idea to the next level. The dragons for one aren't the most typical class you would expect. In this universe dragons are lizard like horses as well as raptors, hued in the full spectrum. But what makes these dragons truly magical is their ability to use electromagnetism including high tech gear.

These dragons are used in a variety of competitions in all shapes an sizes.

What makes dragon booster different is dragons are used for racing as well as fighting. This makes things nice an even with races being just as exciting as fighting and means the skills for both are translatable.

Here humans and dragons live together but there is a threat that dragons and humans would go to war. The heroes are generally about unison and teamwork with he dragons and each other.

The character are generally a goofy fun bunch but a lot of them do show signs of complexity.

The whole show is full cg cell shaded which makes everything stand out quite well.

Plot did move along nicely and the characters were always gaining something even the villains.

Dragon booster is really successful in making its own mythos with the idea of mag energy being as tied in with the world as the force in star wars. The long winding city with massive pitfalls and bright neon lights is certainly something. Along with the massive array of varied dragon types and designs.

Unfortunately this show was doomed before it could truly mature. But the conclusion of dragon booster it was the final in entering the next stage of their evolution. They had all hyped up about this next stage which sadly never came to fruition.

As a show its fairly good but its really sad to think what could have been.

Unique and fast paced

Warning: Spoilers
When you first hear dragon booster your like "what?" but it's not what you might think, no fire blazing or flying going on in here. It's about a 16 year old Artha who is considered a "stable boy" but one day when a opposing crew attacks the stables his father owns he gets chosen by a gold dragon called Beau to become the "Dragon Booster" a hero meant to stop a Dragon Human war from happening. To become stronger he enters dragon street races to build up his dragon and get into the "Academy".

As far as violence dragons bash around during races and the hero fights different opponents here and there but it's not graphic.

Graphics aren't movie quality and they make mistakes here and there but it is very stylistic and colorful. 3\5

Plot. the show is very fast past mostly because the show starts at a further point than others do but they unravel the past as it goes along and shows a plot for the future but they have canceled the Dragon Booster Academy series . The current series has around 37 episodes. 5\5

Recommendation. I think it's best for teenagers or tweens. And I think you should rent it first and see if you like it. Otherwise i would recommend watching it.

Amazing show!
Satwick9815 January 2024
Do not why they did not continue the Dragon Booster Academy . The production company did not realise how much fanbase it has in India. How can they just cancel the show on the basis that there is no enough action figures sales.

This was an engaging show with amazing characters and drawings. The storyline was going pretty intense and then they stopped the sequel. Hope they again restart the series. The final episod was aired in 2006, its been several years and still the fanbase for this show is intact , rewatching the show. The big ott companies can kickstart the production considering the fanbase.

Release the DRAGON!
Jake23109816 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"The dragon... is power. Once they were our equals, today humans control the dragon. To race, compete, and fight, at nearly 200 miles per hour! Now, dragons are once again ready to be released. And the powerful dragon of legend will choose a young hero to save the planet... a Dragon Booster.

Release the DRAGON!"

If like many you've never heard of them before, Nerd Corps Entertainment was a Canadian-based animation studio based in Vancouver, British Columbia and founded by Chuck Johnson and Asaph Fipke - both of whom had worked for Mainframe Studios as producers before moving on to found Nerd Corps. And while I did grow up on one of their other shows as a kid, Dragon Booster actually was the first animated series to be produced by the company.

The series centers around our young hero Artha Penn who works as a stable boy looking after his dragon, Beau. However when Penn Stables is attacked by the Down City Crews, a gold star appears on Beau's head and he chooses Artha - his owner - to become the legendary hero and titular character, the Dragon Booster - chosen to bring an end to the imposing Human-Dragon War.

But Artha isn't alone, fighting alongside him in the Penn Racing Crew are his young brother Lance Penn; his best friend and know-it-all geek Parmon Sean; the female of the team, Kitt Wonn; and his father Connor Penn, who was the owner of Penn Stables, but upon being attacked he would go on to disguise himself as a mentor named Mortis; allowing for his son to develop on his own without needing help from his father.

As for the main antagonists, those would be Word and Moordryd Paynn. Throughout half of the show their goal is to steal Beau, believed to be the dragon of legend so Word can start another Human-Dragon war. However as the show progressed Moordryd does start to display some heroic qualities and eventually transitions into a more complex anti-hero. I sort of hoped we would get a full-on character redemption arc on Moordryd like we had with Prince Zuko in the Avatar cartoon, like maybe he would have gone from wanting to be rid of our main character to then working alongside them.

Okay, I know it's not relevant to this show in particular but it needs to be addressed. Considering I grew up watching Storm Hawks during my childhood (and this was way before I discovered Dragon Booster), these two shows feel almost exactly alike. Both being done by Nerd Corps of course, there are a LOT of similarities between the two shows; those being found in the anime-influenced art style, sound design, cel-shaded animation that honestly looks better compared to Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks, and a superb voice cast comprised of Matt Hill, Lenore Zann, Kathleen Barr, Lee Tockar, Trevor Devall, Mark Oliver and Scott McNeil to name but a few Canadian actors what really made these characters stand out.

Considering this show and Storm Hawks both originate from Canada, I feel the writing, quality and art style that these shows had going dwarfs the quality of other shows that have come either before or after their time. But before anyone takes this the wrong way, that's not to say all Canadian cartoons are bad. I mean sure some of them are pretty mediocre and might not have aged as well, but like everything else there is always going to be that mix of good and bad between the wide variety of animated shows out there. (Also applies to American & Japanese cartoons)

But with that said, it seems inevitable that in the world where most action shows are made purely just to sell toys and fail, Dragon Booster also suffered the same cliff-hanger treatment that some of Nerd Corps other shows also had. I can already picture the uproar this caused with fans of this show at the promise of there being Dragon Booster Academy, whether it would've served as the show's fourth season or even as a spin-off series, it's sad knowing we'll never get to see where the story continued from there.

Also, fun fact! I looked at the show's release date on Wikipedia and it said the show premiered on October 23rd in the year 2004, which means that unbeknownst to myself at that time this show initially came out on my 6th birthday! How cool is that? And this year also will mark 20 years since Nerd Corps got the game started with their first animated show, paving the way for a few others to come.

Anyway, if you're looking for a cartoon that has it all; dragons, racing, war, drama... then I recommend you check out Dragon Booster. I wish there could be a channel on YouTube where each episode is uploaded in high definition like we got with Storm Hawks HD.

A action-packed animation
atomius7 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
When i first saw this, as usual it took time for the glorious graphics to stand aside so i could really scan it's true side. And it's nothing bad, mind you. The plot concerns Artha Penn and his friends who fight the evil forces of Dragon City with 'mag' energy and 'draconium' bonemarks etc. Behind the fictional technobabble it is about a boy turned hero and his fight to stop a second dragon-human war from breaking out. The animation is one of the best things, and it is fairly well made. The setting reflects the racing culture, with speedways and dragon tracks looping and winding through a cityscape as they would in a video game, yet the plot remains with a certain amount of depth to give it a meaning, like the viking legends. All in all the show is worth watching, and, if you like fast paced cartoons it's fine.
