Sex & Nudity

  • The possessed boy is shown wearing only a loincloth in the film's climax. (Non-sexual)
  • A woman kisses a former priest but they get interrupted.

Violence & Gore

  • A Nazi officer shoots a person in the head and blood spurts over a bystander's face.
  • A man is shown tied to a stake with arrows sticking out of his body.
  • An officer shoots an innocent girl in the head at close range. Some blood.
  • A tribal warrior breaks into a school and kills several children. Very upsetting.
  • A man shoots himself in the mouth. His corpse is later shown with the top of his head missing.
  • In a dream sequence, an entire village is shot to death by Nazi officers.
  • During the exorcism, the possessed opens his mouth and a swarm of locusts burst out and attack the priest. They swarm over his face and tear into it, leaving ugly cuts and boils all over it, but he does not back down.
  • Moderate levels of violence with some gore. Not as bloody as the other "Exorcist" films
  • A man's arms and legs have ugly boils on them.
  • Some long-horned cattle killed a bunch of hyenas. A cow is then shown to be eating the hyena belly out in the midst of a bunch of dead hyenas and other cattle. Shortly after that, the tribal people speak to them. Then in bloody detail, a cow is seen eating a strip of bloody hyena flesh.
  • A man's leg has been cut open, and the doctors are preparing to split it open. The instant they strike the hammer, the woman who is giving birth nearby screams and a second later, a fetus is held up, bloody and dead with about two hundred maggots crawling all over it.
  • The British troops go into the tomb/temple and see a looter had been crucified upside down on the altar. Another looter is shown cut to pieces nearby, with his head on a platter.

Profanity

  • One use of "Jesus Christ" in a non-religious sequence.
  • One or two racial epithets.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Several men drink alcohol at a table in two scenes.
  • A man briefly smokes a cigarette.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A man has a nightmare in which a deformed masked figure unpeels his bandages and reveals only a single eye in the center of his head. He then sees the hideous face of the demon Pazuzu appear out of the dark and snarl at him. Very bizarre and unsettling.
  • The opening scene is extremely intense and disturbing.
  • The demon strikes a priest when the priest puts a rosary on the possessed person's forehead. The demon then roars at the priest in a frightening voice.
  • The demon has an ugly misshapen head and speaks in a frightening voice (Not as disturbing as Mercedes McCambridge's) but speaks taunting a priest about how useless he is while the priest is trying to exorcise him. He then snarls at the priest and the possessed's face morphs into that of the demon's face and looks very creepy.
  • Though this is nowhere near as frightening or as gruesome as other "Exorcist" films, it is very dark in its themes of personal evils that tend to take control of the human mind and conscience. It is not outrightly scary, but is very heavy in it portrayals of evil and the spiritual battles that rage within the human soul.
