Gore is okay, rest not existing
Dellamore5 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The special effects for "Deuteronomium: Das jüngste Gericht" are made by Olaf Ittenbach, notorious for his low-budget horror films, produced in Germany or the USA. In this movie now, although it is a Swiss one and directed by Roger Grolimund, you get basically the same as in the films in which Ittenbach is directing: good gore effects, but nothing more.

Usually there is an interesting basic idea, but it is not properly developed. Same here: an angel tells our bored hero what he should do. His name is Michael Luhser BTW, pronounced as the English word "loser". But from here on, nothing interesting happens any more: Luhser kills various people in various ways because his angel tells him to do so. And unlike in the early Ittenbach films, you don't get a long bloodbath in the end.

So, if you look for something special, new, erotic, good dialogs or actors: don't waste your time. If you accept that you can't expect the standard horror film to be as good as a standard drama, overlook the shortcomings, grab a few friends, a few beers and enjoy the good basic idea as well as the good gore effects.

only for Ittenback fans or gore hounds

So here we go again. Why o why does German spoken flicks never have any subs. It's a fact that many geeks would like to see those German splatters but not understanding a bit what they are saying. I still give it a chance because mostly the script isn't worth seeing, you only watch it for the gore.

Clocking in at just over 1 hour fits perfectly for this rather stupid script. But hey, the gore is in tact and done by Olaf ittenbach. So only for that reason it's worth picking up. The first killing is a bit laughable because you could easily see that the head was a dummy but the bathtub killing is on top.

There are 3 nasty, gory moments to spot throughout this flick. The conversations are as said, laughable. Only to search for Ittenbach fans and horehounds.
