Last year, we introduced you to our first-ever Future 25, a celebration of 25 leaders upending the music industry with brazen ideas. We felt like too many lists and accolades in music were celebrity-focused or politically driven; we wanted to build something to honor forceful ideas, not high salaries or C-suite titles. We also knew our list needed to be made fresh every year — ushering a new set of leaders up on stage along with the previous year’s, rather than simply reshuffling positions on a former list.

Following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, music executives Brianna Agyemang and Jamila Thomas were exhausted. They wanted time to rest and process — so the friends planned a day away from their normal jobs and created a hashtag, #TheShowMustBePaused, to explain the significance of doing so.

Jess Benko, a singer-songwriter based in Toronto, started uploading spare, plaintive acoustic ballads to SoundCloud in 2019. Tracks like “Maybe You Miss Me” began to pick up thousands of streams, “but no managers and lawyers were reaching out,” Benko says. “I really wanted to take that next step, not just be an artist in my bedroom but someone who’s actually involved with people in the music industry. I didn’t know where to start.”

Few people in music have had a bigger year than Merck Mercuriadis, the founder and CEO of Hipgnosis Songs Fund, who has tossed a billion dollars at songwriters, artists, and producers to grab the copyrights of the biggest charting hits of the past 50 years. Mercuriadis recently purchased catalogs from artists including Jack Antonoff, Tom DeLonge, and Richie Sambora — not to mention the entire L.A.-based publisher Big Deal Music — and single-handedly driven up the value of old hits to the rest of the industry.

At the start of 2020, Andrew Jensen worked in hospitality. But two months into quarantine, he launched NoonChorus with his brother and co-founder, Alex Jensen.
“The pandemic [has] highlighted the value for livestreaming for a lot of artists who likely wouldn’t have considered it as an option otherwise,” Andrew Jensen says. “It’s hard to imagine it going back now. They know what they can do with it — what the platform is capable of.”

Despite multiple assurances that she would focus on acting instead of singing for her debut as host on “Saturday Night Live,” Adele burst into song several times during a spoof on “The Bachelor” about half an hour into the show.
The skit found Adele, who was introduced as her superstar self, interrupting every bachelor-dating scenario by breaking into solo-with-pianist versions of one of her hits — “Hello,” “Set Fire to the Rain,” and others — to the annoyance of the other women.

NBC's Connecting... isn't your standard sitcom, it's true, but with its quiet charm, it has a funny way of sneaking up on you.
By now, many series have jumped aboard the Quarantine Zoom-style of filming to provide us with new fictional, serialized content.
Reality and late-night talk shows were among the first to adapt to the pandemic with self-filming. We've seen it with all of the late-night shows, the 90 Day Fiance franchise, Married at First Sight, and so many more.
But then we saw an increase in fictional series that take the pandemic head-on. Connecting... joins the ranks with Netflix's glum Social Distance and Freeform's teeth-achingly sweet Love in the Time of Corona.
All of which, likely inspired by CBS' All Rise. The legal procedural charted unknown waters back in May with its season finale, All Rise Season 1 Episode 21.

Adele is making her return on next week’s episode of Saturday Night Live.
The 32-year-old singer took to Instagram on Sunday night, where she announced that she will be hosting the Oct. 24 show along with H.E.R. as musical guest.
“Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first-ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!! I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand-alone moment so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right," she wrote.
“But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right?”

Cologne, Germany -- uConnect, the sales division of Belgium-based group uMedia, has picked up international sales rights to Paul Andrew Williams' period biopic Close Enough. The Avengers star Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell (Captain America) are attached to star as the true-life couple that founded Magnum, the world's first photo agency. Hiddleston would play renowned war photographer Robert Capa, Atwell the acclaimed photojournalist Gerda Taro. Born Andrei Friedman and Gerta Pohorylle, Capa and Taro reinvented themselves after fleeing the Nazis in 1934 to Paris, where they built a life together. It was there, after the war, that the two

In addition to Tom Hiddleston being in the mix to lead the reboot of The Crow, last week also brought news that the star of Thor and The Avengers was joining Gemma Arterton in Capa, a film about renowned war photographer Robert Capa, focusing on his two year romance with fellow photographer Gerda Taro during the Spanish Civil War. However, Screen Daily now has word that the project is called Close Enough, and it will be Captain America: The First Avenger star Hayley Atwell taking the role of Taro in the story of the couple's years in Paris in the mid-1930s leading up to their romance throughout the Spanish Civil War. Despite both being stars of two Marvel franchises leading up to The Avengers, Hiddleston and Atwell never shared the screen together in the comic book universe. However, casting these two more recognizable stars should get some more eyes on this interesting story.

Hayley Atwell has joined the cast of Close Enough.
Formerly titled Capa, Paul Andrew Williams's biopic will star Tom Hiddleston as war photographer and photojournalist Robert Capa,
Screen Daily confirms that Atwell will play the role of Capa's partner and fellow photojournalist Gerda Taro, who was originally to be played by Gemma Arterton.
The script, penned by Williams, will follow the couple's first meeting in Paris and their subsequent work during the Spanish Civil War.
"Hayley is someone I have wanted to work with for a long time, and after a few near misses we have finally found what I believe to be the best project to collaborate on," Williams said.
"The chemistry between Capa and Gerda was electric, and I have confidence that Tom and Hayley will repeat that chemistry on film."
Principal photography is due to begin in June.

Looks like Tom Hiddleston’s Robert Capa has found his Gerda Toro. Hayley Atwell has been cast in the wartime photojournalism drama “Close Enough” (previously titled “Capa”.) Toro was one of the first female war photographers and met Capa in the early 1930s. They embarked on an intense love affair and “Close Enough” is set during [...]

After Tom Hiddleston joined the cast of Close Enough, an upcoming biopic about the legendary Robert Capa, who was a war-photographer and photojournalist, everything looked good to go, with cameras set to roll in June. Today though, there has been a bit of a casting shake up as Gemma Arterton, who was attached to the project for quite a while, has dropped out. Replacing her will be Hayley Atwell, most well known for playing Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Now, just to avoid any confusion, there are two Robert Capa biopics currently in development. There’s this one and there’s also one that is set to be directed by Michael Mann, though that’s still in the early stages of development.

It seems as though we've been talking about a biopic of legendary war-photographer and photojournalist Robert Capa forever, but it does look like one is finally going to make it into production. It won't be the one directed by Michael Mann however, because whilst he's still reported to be developing his own Capa feature, a rival project now titled "Close Enough" has gained serious traction with the addition of "Avengers" actor Tom Hiddleston last week. Although, at the same time it lost the long attached Gemma Arterton, it was assumed that the inclusion of Hiddleston would be enough to get another actor in quickly and that has proven to be the case. Hayley Atwell - likely best known for playing Peggy Carter in "Captain America: The First Avenger" (although she has done a ton of superb work for British TV) -- has now joined the flick alongside Hiddleston and things...

Tom Hiddleston is rumoured to be in talks to take the lead role in The Crow.
Hiddleston has entered into discussions to star as Eric Draven, aka The Crow, in Relativity Media's remake of the 1994 film based on the James O'Barr comic series.
Sources close to the project told The Wrap that Hiddleston recently had dinner with producers and sent them his own make-up test to create The Crow's iconic look. A formal make-up test will be carried out in the coming days.
Brandon Lee played the role of Draven, a man who returns from the grave to avenge his death, in the original film. He died aged 28 after an accidental shooting on set.
James McAvoy is among the actors previously tipped to replace Lee as the titular character.
Hiddleston was recently confirmed to star opposite Gemma Arterton in Robert Capa biopic Capa.

Relativity has had some trouble getting their remake of The Crow off the ground. Several actors have been in talks for the lead role but so far, nothing has panned out. Bradley Cooper was attached for a bit and after he departed, the studio went to Mark Wahlberg. A few months ago we heard that Wahlberg turned it down and that James McAvoy was in talks to star. Now, we’re hearing that McAvoy has left the film and Tom Hiddleston is eyeing the lead role, that of Eric Draven.
Though not confirmed just yet, apparently Hiddleston has been talking to the producers and has already submitted a makeup test. The Wrap is reporting that the studio is very interested in having the actor come on board and they are hoping to close a deal soon.
For those unfamiliar with the property, it’s based on the 1989 comic book by James O’Barr.

Currently in the works is a biopic about renowned war photographer Robert Capa, aptly titled Capa. Director Paul Andrew Williams (An Unfinished Song) will be helming the film with a script from Menno Meyjes (Empire of the Sun, The Colour Purple). Already set to star is Gemma Arterton and now, the film has found its leading man in Tom Hiddleston, most well known for his role as Loki in Marvel’s universe of films.
Now, to avoid confusion, we should make it clear that another Capa biopic is in the works. It’s titled Waiting for Robert Capa and Michael Mann is currently attached to direct. That version is said to be more of a big budget affair while the one starring Arterton and Hiddleston will be more of a low key drama.
Capa will follow the photographer starting in 1935, where he meets a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany named Taro.
