Disney has unveiled a first look at the upcoming live-action remake of “Snow White.”
In a new image, Rachel Zegler is transformed into the iconic Disney Princess, surrounded by her Seven Dwarfs. As of today, the film, which was originally set to open on March 22, 2024, has been delayed to March 21, 2025.
Zegler stars as Snow White and Gal Gadot plays The Evil Queen. Ansu Kabia co-stars as the Huntsman and Andrew Burnap plays a new character named Jonathan. The Seven Dwarfs have been reimagined for the remake, and Zegler has said that this new iteration will not be as focused on the romantic subplot but instead will show Snow White become the leader her father encouraged her to be. The reimagined storyline and Zegler’s casting — she will be the first Latina to play Snow White — have generated some online criticism for veering from the source material.

Zach Braff's directorial debut, "Garden State," was an event unto itself in the indie movie scene circa 2004. With its award-winning soundtrack -- a mixtape of then-contemporary indie-rock titles and vintage classics like "The Only Living Boy in New York" -- and its quirky-dramatic tale of post-college graduation ennui, Braff's Sundance sensation was practically tailor-made for disaffected 20-somethings coming of adult age in the early '00s like himself. That it's also fairly hackneyed while being fully earnest in its convictions and observations about life kind of makes it the perfect embodiment of what the world looks like through the eyes of a 20-something.
Up until 2023, however, Braff had only directed two other films, one of which he also wrote (2014's "Wish I Was Here") and the other which he directed only (2017's "Going in Style"). "There has to be a catalyst that really puts me in the chair," he...

Early this year, Joey Ryan, half of the indie folk duo the Milk Carton Kids, received a text from his friend Sara Bareilles. No surprise there — she, Ryan and Ryan’s musical partner Kenneth Pattengale have known each other for over a decade. This time, Bareilles asked if she could pass Ryan’s contact info along to some TV people she was working with. “I said, ‘Sure, of course, what is it?’ ” he recalls. “And she goes, ‘They want someone to do this song and it’s supposed to sound like Simon and Garfunkel.

Kiersey Clemons is set to star opposite Ezra Miller in “The Flash” solo movie, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Clemons will reprise her role as Iris West, the romantic interest of Barry Allen.
Clemons was initially cast as West in 2017’s “Justice League” but was cut from the final film. Clemons’ scene has been restored for “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” which will premiere on HBO Max on March 18.
Ben Affleck’s Batman is not the only Batman to return, as Michael Keaton will return to the role of Batman from the 1989 Tim Burton film, as TheWrap first exclusively reported.
The plot of “The Flash” will introduce general audiences to the idea of the multiverse, one of the of core concepts underpinning DC Comics. For the non fanboy set, the multiverse refers to a shifting number of alternate universes that coexist within the larger reality depicted in DC comics.

Online, the memes are about guillotines, and at the movies, the stories are about why rich people should care about income inequality, if only for their own continued survival. Alongside Michel Franco’s blistering “New Order,” coming later this year, we get “The White Tiger,” Ramin Bahrani’s caustic adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s acclaimed novel about the lengths to which one man will go to climb out of his caste.
For as long as there has been literature, there have been tales of penniless men who advance by diligent hard work, cleverness, love, and perhaps a little larceny, but those narratives rarely address why the hero was penniless in the first place. “The White Tiger” illustrates the extremes to which the poor are driven to violate the rigid class structure of India, with the implication that our hero and his methodology is perhaps the face of post-superpower capitalism itself.

Marc Webb is taking a bite of a magic apple to direct the live action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Want to know a secret? Promise not to tell? Marc Webb is the "top choice" to direct the upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs live-action remake, according to Variety. Disney, which first announced the project in 2016, is also in "in talks" with screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) to pen the script. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Academy Award winning team which brought us La La Land and The Greatest Showman, are set to write new songs for the film.

The Wizarding World has continued to expand with the installation of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and this time, J.K. Rowling introduces us to Newt Scamander's brave but rule-abiding Auror brother Theseus. He's a bit of a proto-Percy Weasley type with a sinewy build, head of curly hair, and (mostly) fierce devotion to his job at the Ministry of Magic. Alongside new big names in the magical universe such as Zoë Kravitz and Jude Law, English actor Callum Turner brings the stern wizard to life in the Harry Potter prequel.
Turner has been a creative powerhouse in the entertainment industry, as he's tried out his hand in modeling, television, theater, and film. A London native, he grew up as an only child in a single mother family in Chelsea. His desire to learn about the world beyond the structure of school whisked him outside his hometown and into the...

Kate Beckinsale is joining the list of actresses who have shared their encounters dealing with Harvey Weinstein over the years. In an emotional Instagram post, Beckinsale reveals she was asked to meet Weinstein at the Savoy Hotel when she was just 17. “I assumed it would be in a conference room,” the actress said of the meeting, but when she arrived the receptionist told her to head to Weinstein’s room. Beckinsale says he answered the door in his bathrobe.

“I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him,” Beckinsale writes. “After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed.”
Beckinsale says there was no physical altercation between Weinstein and herself that night.

Labor Day weekend is the calm before the specialized storm. “Wind River” (Weinstein) went wide quickly, and managed the #3 spot it an weak period for most theaters. The company also released its long-blooming “Tulip Fever,” which flopped as expected with just over $1 million. Meanwhile, Lionsgate/Pantelion’s “Do It Like An Hombre,” a low-budget Mexican comedy, did twice as well in half the theaters.

Every summer movie season has its highlights and low points – but from a commercial perspective, this year's edition was mostly just bleak. The final numbers aren't in yet, but 2017 is projected to be the lowest-grossing summer since 2006. (For perspective: That was the year that the Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises first launched.) Sure, people still spend tons of money at the multiplex – the final box office tally is estimated to be around $3.8 billion. But, with a few major exceptions, there simply weren't the breakout, must-see event movies and...

Marc Webb‘s career has certainly taken some interesting turns. After breaking out with “(500) Days Of Summer,” the filmmaker leaped to the blockbuster world with “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” The results weren’t so hot, the franchise was rebooted with this summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and Webb returned to the indie world knocking out “Gifted” (which quietly earned an impressive $37 million worldwide off a $7 million budget) and “The Only Living Boy In New York” (which received terrible reviews, and even worse box office).

On a disastrous weekend at the overall box office –with the lowest per capita attendance since the Fdr administration — specialty movies did comparatively better. On a smaller scale.
Still, continuing a recent trend, a slew of Sundance premieres expanded to weak results. “Ingrid Goes West” (Neon) and “Good Time” (A24), both with significant support and strong theater placement, are barely treading water in most locations as they broaden.
“Beach Rats” (Neon), another Sundance American indie, leads among new openers with an adequate start in its initial two city dates. But it is below other films that are now struggling to find interest with broader audiences.
Like the mainstream market, the specialized scene has gone from a strong early summer with several notable titles (led by “The Big Sick”) to a wide number of disappointments that have come and gone very quickly. With the fall festival and awards season just around the corner,...

This weekend presents us with another film set in Manhattan, but the locale is the only thing it has in common with Menashe. Well, it does deal with a father-son conflict, though the duo here is worlds apart from the shop clerk and his pre-teen progeny. For this release we’re taken from the orthodox Jewish community of Brooklyn to the posh, intellectual upper west side, and the son is a good ten years older, a twenty-something. The conflict here concerns something, really someone, the two men have in common, unknown to the patriarch. Though the son shares the frustrations about gentrification (“The city’s losing its soul”) with his parents’ friends, in many ways he may really still be on the cusp of adulthood, hence his status as The Only Living Boy In New York. And no, it’s not another post-apocalyptic, dystopian teens fighting for humanity opus, thank heavens.

A slew of hit-and-miss indie films from Sundance and elsewhere continue to roll out at the specialty box office. Fox Searchlight took another blow as high-end Sundance acquisition “Patti Cake$” fell below the expectations set by its expensive $9.5 million price tag.
“Gook” (Goldwyn) and “Crown Heights” (Amazon Studios/IFC) both enjoyed respectable initial limited responses ahead of other openers. A24’s Robert Pattinson actioner “Good Time” also showed some promise in its second weekend.
The most encouraging news comes from the second weekend of Neon’s “Ingrid Goes West” and third for The Weinstein Co. breakout “Wind River.” Both look positioned to dominate the specialized scene over the next few weeks in advance of upcoming fall post-festival releases.

Allan Loeb certainly isn’t a household name, but there’s a pretty good chance you’ve might’ve seen one or two of his credited movies. Whether it’s “21,” “The Switch,” “The Dilemma,” “Just Go With It,” “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” “Rock of Ages” or last year’s regrettable “Collateral Beauty,” just to name a handful, Loeb is one of those screenwriters who’s quick to diversify his resume but never able to prove his skills.

Sundance hit “Ingrid Goes West” (Neon) and Cannes breakout “Good Time” (A24) both opened well in New York/Los Angeles dates. “A Trip to Spain” (IFC), the third installment of Michael Winterbottom’s comedy franchise, also had a decent showing.

It's a great weekend for Warner Bros. which saw Annabelle: Creation, the latest installment in the Conjuring franchise, top the box office with $35 million while Dunkirk topped $150 million domestically. However, fellow new releases struggled to give the box office much of a jolt as the top twelve brought in a combined $103.8 million, down 6% compared to last weekend and the fourth lowest weekend of 2017. Overall, the summer movie season is still down 12% compared to last year. With an estimated $35 million, Annabelle: Creation opened at the top of the weekend box office, delivering nearly $24 million more than the weekend runner-up. This is the fourth feature in the Conjuring franchise which continues to deliver each time out. Carrying a budget of just $15 million this is also a great outing for director David F. Saturday Am Update: WB and New Line's Annabelle: Creation is off to an excellent start, bringing in an estimated $15 million on Friday (including $4 million from Thursday previews) on its way to a weekend around $35 million if not more. It's also great news for director David F. Sandberg who helmed last year's hit Lights Out for WB. That film went on to gross nearly $150 million worldwide on a budget under $5 million. The film received a "B" CinemaScore, matching the score for the first film. Open Road's The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature is performing even worse than expected, delivering an estimated $3 million on Friday. This is already shaping up to be the lowest opening for a film playing in over 4,000 theaters by a wide margin. Marc Webb, who directed one of my all-time favorite rom-coms, (500) Days of Summer, gets it all wrong this time with The Only Living Boy in New York. How do major misfires like this happen? Blame the screenwriter. Summer showed the light touch of Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber; Boy is credited to writer Allan Loeb, whose growing rap sheet includes the excruciating Collateral Beauty and The Space Between Us. Even the best actors – and this coming-of-age movie boasts a handful of them – can't fight this much tin-eared dialogue.

The gorgeous 1970 Simon & Garfunkel song “The Only Living Boy In New York” has a petty origin story: It was written by Paul Simon about his bitter loneliness when his singing partner Art Garfunkel left him in New York to go shoot a movie in Mexico. (Jeez, Simon, maybe just let Garfunkel have that one?) That acrimony isn’t immediately apparent in the song, which soars with wistful melancholy and the duo’s lovely harmonies. The movie The Only Living Boy In New York boldly reclaims the tune for self-pitying young men everywhere—even more so than Garden State, which had the good taste to use the feelings it evokes vaguely and in a single scene, not as a running motif. Marc Webb’s new movie, in contrast, uses the song for its title, the name of an in-movie manuscript, and as a late-breaking song cue that doesn’t ...
