Innovative on the cheap, a very indy film with imagery that will stick to you
trainwreckchris3 August 2010
Saw it at the Clinton St Theater when it came out. I remember it as a whac-a-mole PG13 action rom/com sort of crowded with subplots in a way reminiscent of 1987's Adventures in Babysitting. But what really stuck with me and made me think of it every now and then over the course of half a decade were the visual elements of modern magic realism effectively used for comedic effect while symbolizing common emotional hangups and relationship situations. This may as well have been a student film judging by the quality of the acting, editing, pacing, writing, etc, but the way the story is told is still quite fun and you'll be very entertained if you're in the mood for an indy popcorn flick that tries new things sans budget.

Many excellent elements, but runs far too long

Some very interesting characters, but one whom I kept hoping would die off, but never did. I have to admit that I watched this film almost till the end, but then bailed on the last 15 minutes or so. There were creative elements - but some were used unceasingly (photo effects) and ended up not enhancing anything (plot, leitmotifs, etc. . ) and instead just became annoying. Kudos to the Director/Producer for managing such a large project on such a small budget, but I really must fault the editing, that permitted this film to run on so long. Someone needed to take a step back and bring a critical eye to the product, prior to release. Some of the acting was truly excellent, including the lead and the character playing the abused girl (forget the character's name, but her performance was phenomenal). The photography was excellent. The plot conceit was interesting. The dog shows potential for use in pizza commercials!
