This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
Like its predecessor X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men ’97 remixes classic stories from X-Men comics to make them more palatable for television. But X-Men ’97 is also very much a continuation of Tas, returning to stories and themes that first aired almost three decades ago.
So it’s no surprise that season one showrunner Beau De Mayo has suggested that fans go back to a few classic Tas episodes ahead of the three-part X-Men ’97 finale, titled “Tolerance Is Extinction.” De Mayo points to the following story arcs specifically: “One Man’s Worth Parts 1 and 2,” “Sanctuary Parts 1 and 2,” “Descent,” and “The Final Decision.”
Beau DeMayo says the following episodes of the original X-Men animated series are worth rewatching to prepare for the 3-part finale 'Tolerance Is Extinction'. #XMen97

Marvel’s X-Men ’97 was filled with unexpected twists and turns, yet it has been one glorious ride for all Marvel fans. After years of having a love-hate relationship with Fox’s X-Men movies, fans were hopeful that Marvel Studios would bring them a more comic-book-faithful version of the mutants after Disney acquired Fox.

Not only is X-Men ’97 faithful to the source but its nostalgic theme and ties with the original X-Men: The Animated Series make it one hell of a show to watch. With the season one finale approaching fast, creator and showrunner Beau DeMayo took to his X account to share a bit of assignment for fans of the show.
In his recent tweet, DeMayo revealed that every fan of the mutant tale should prep and watch these 6 episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series before watching the 3-part season finale, Tolerance is Extinction.

Baby Reign-deer
Richard Gadd in Baby Reindeer
Crown of antlers: Baby Reindeer, Netflix’s lightly fictionalized story of a comedian being pursued by a creepy stalker, has reigned over the cultural conversation in the UK and beyond this week. Created by Richard Gadd, the series has wowed critics with its sharp dialogue and gripping story. Viewers have agreed with the verdict. The drama from The End of the F***ing World producer Clerkenwell Films cemented its sleeper hit status by growing its audience by 64% in its second week on Netflix, meaning Episode 1 has been watched by nearly 5 million people in the UK. It’s a similar story elsewhere: Baby Reindeer surged to the top of Netflix’s English-language TV chart, racking up 13.3 million views in the week to April 21.

The series finale of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was called "All Good Things..." and it aired as a two-hour special event on May 23, 1994. The story followed Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) as he found himself uncontrollably skipping between three time periods. In one time period, it was merely his present, and he investigated his temporal mystery as he would on any other episode of the series. In the second, he was hurled back in time seven years to when the Enterprise-d was just beginning its first mission. In the third timeline, Picard was in his own future, now an old man suffering from a rare brain disease.
The "time skips" were seemingly orchestrated by the trickster god Q (John De Lancie) whose impishness caused Picard to accidentally create -- in all three timelines simultaneously -- a spatial cloud that got larger and larger the further backward in time it traveled.

Johnny Jewel’s latest project is the soundtrack to the Dutch drama film Holly. Before the full Ost is out October 13th via his label Italians Do It Better, he’s shared a preview of it with the lead single “The Witch.” He’s also announced a run of European tour dates, during which he’ll play sets comprising music from his prolific film score discography.
Directed and written by Fien Troch, Holly centers around a 15-year-old girl whose school is largely destroyed by a fire one day after she calls out of class. As her community grieves, they begin to see some unspoken quality in Holly that makes her an unlikely source of support, though perhaps at the sacrifice of her own wellbeing.

Back then, no one was expecting The Descent to go on and become one of the most widely acclaimed horror films of the decade. Even today, Neil Marshall’s second creature-feature (the first being Dog Soldiers) remains a favorite among audiences and critics everywhere. This iconic film defies those expectations based on its cast and pitch — not a man in sight as six women battle a clan of cave-dwelling monsters — and then delivers a thoughtful study of friendships, grief, and survival.
So when a sequel was announced, fans’ curiosity and anticipation turned into nervousness once it was revealed that Marshall was neither directing nor writing the follow-up. Instead, the first film’s editor, Jon Harris, was promoted to director, and the script was handled by James McCarthy, J Blakeson, and James Watkins. Other details about The Descent Part 2 were scant prior to its 2009 release, but after it was finally seen,...

Be it the feeling of atmospheric isolation, reconnecting with primal instincts, or the pervasive insignificance of human existence, something about venturing into the wilderness clicks so very well with thriller narratives that survival suspense tales have become a genre in themselves. Away from urban security, the tales plunge viewers into a world of uncertainty where unbound human nature shows its true face, and before we know it, the setting becomes the intangible antagonist the leads need to conquer. The recently released survival thriller River Wild, which is a remake of the much superior original one, although not the best venture the subgenre has to offer, follows the basic tenets of it in showcasing the perilous misadventure of a group of campers.
We would like to recommend some other great survival thrillers that you can enjoy if River Wild has piqued your interest in the subgenre. A couple of these might...

Rosario Dawson and Sam Adegoke have joined the cast of “Dark Days & the Dawn,” the latest film from “This Is Not a War Story” director Talia Lugacy.
“Dark Days & the Dawn” unfolds over the course of one night and into daybreak, as Maria Del Sol (Dawson) and Samuel (Adegoke), a couple who have been together for four hundred and sixty years, hit their breaking point. Lugacy and Kamau Ware collaborated on the genre bending script for “Dark Days & the Dawn,” penning characters written specifically for Dawson and Adegoke to portray.
Lugacy produces under her Acoustic Pictures banner, alongside Noah Lang for Witchcraft Motion Picture Company, and Ware for Kamau Studios. Cassian Elwes and Tom Culliver executive produce for Elevated Films. The film will shoot in Savanah, Georgia later this year.

This post contains spoilers for the ninth episode of "Star Trek: Picard," season 3.
In the latest episode of "Star Trek: Picard," called "Võx," one of the season's great mysteries has been revealed. Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) has been having strange visions for several episodes, seeing an antique red door appearing in his mind's eye. He also seems to have acquired eerie psychic powers as well as the capability to read thoughts and project his consciousness into other people's brains, effectively taking them over. These abilities made Jack of vital importance to Vadic (Amanda Plummer), a vicious Changeling bounty hunter hellbent on kidnapping him. Vadic also, audiences have learned, hijacked Jean-Luc Picard's dead body from a Federation black site.
The explanation for both Jack's psychic powers and Vadic's grave robbery is, it seems, rather dumb: when Picard was assimilated by the Borg years before, they left a mysterious genetic "mark" in his brain,...

In the episode of "The Ren & Stimpy Show" called "Space Madness", the feckless young space cadet Stimpy (Billy West) is charged with guarding a mysterious button called the History Eraser Button. No one knows what the History Eraser Button does, but Stimpy is immediately intrigued. He paces, looking at the button, sweating nervously. He wants to push the button. An announcer begins to dictate Stimpy's temptation. Will he push the beautiful, shiny button? The button that, even now, beckons him ever closer? Stimpy breaks down, wails that he cannot help himself, and pushes the button. History is erased and all the characters immediately cease to be. The end.
"Star Trek: Picard" has been pacing similarly around its own History Eraser Button for eight episodes. The "Picard" button, however, is a nostalgia button. A History Indulging Button, if you will. Showrunner Terry Matalas has been eyeballing his button for eight episodes,...

Cue that iconic theme music because X-Men: The Animated Series is coming back in a big way! Many a Saturday morning was defined by sitting in front of the television and watching Charles Xavier’s gifted youngsters save the day in their colourful spandex, but it’s been nearly 26 years since X-Men: The Animated Series bowed out with the acclaimed “Graduation Day,” and while the likes of X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men have their merits, they’ve paled in comparison to The Animated Series.

This post contains spoilers for the first four episodes of the third season of "Star Trek: Picard."
The admirable restraint on display from the makers of "Star Trek: Picard" cannot be understated. The third season of the show has been widely touted as the season wherein most of the main cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" would reunite for the first time since "Star Trek: Nemesis" in 2002. Because pop nostalgia remains a powerful market force, there didn't seem to be anything stopping the "Picard" showrunners from running at full speed back into familiar iconography. In a worst-case scenario, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, and Gates McFadden would have been put back in their old uniforms, put back on their old "Enterprise" set, and speak nothing but lines of dialogue Trekkies would be familiar with. There was every reason to believe "Picard" might...

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Picard" season 3.
When the Borg first appeared in "Q Who", an episode of the second season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," they instantly became a tantalizing and threatening antagonist throughout Trek's galaxy. At the end of the show's third season, the Borg returned and assimilated Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) into their collective in "The Best of Both Worlds", often hailed as one of the best episodes of the series. To that point, the Borg remained threatening, cold, unthinking, awesome villains.
In the 1996 feature film "Star Trek: First Contact," however, the Borg were ... altered. They became animal, malevolent, and sweaty. Additionally, they now had a queen (played by Alice Krige) who expressed emotions, and -- most frustratingly -- could be negotiated with. The idea of the Borg being fallible, emotional beings made them a lot less threatening. The non-threatening...

"I can't die with sins buried in my soul." Gravitas has debuted a full Us trailer for a crime drama from India titled Line of Descent. Three brothers from a Delhi crime family feud over the future of their enterprise. Meanwhile, an undercover police officer attempts to end the family's legacy, and an arms dealer conspires with the brothers. As wacky as it sounds, Brendan Fraser plays the arms dealer - Charu. The cast includes Abhay Deol, Ronit Roy, Neeraj Kabi, Prem Chopra, Ali Haji, and Anisha Victor. Line of Descent is described as "a classic crime narrative in the backdrop of Delhi merges a dysfunctional, mafia family at war with each other as an undercover officer fights his demons by assisting in their downfall." This looks like your standard crime family epic, though I have to admit, Fraser's narration livens it up in just the right way. Here's the...

Spoilers Ahead: Showtime’s The Affair finished its five season run tonight, with the series’ co-creator and guiding creative voice Sarah Treem making her directorial debut on the finale. Treem took 90 minutes to stitch back together the fractured Solloway clan, as the philandering Noah (Dominic West) and long suffering wife Helen (Maura Tierney) find a way back to each other. This was something that seemed nearly impossible after his affair with the desperately unhappy Alison (Ruth Wilson), who found her way into the arms of the bored wannabe bestselling author Noah. He left his own wife and their four children and a highly unexpected adventure began, one that traced the multi-generational ripples created by such a tumultuous event.

The Affair Season 5 Episode 8
“There’s a difference between poor judgment and being a criminal, right?”
Seasons back, during the initial release of Noah’s novel, Descent, an offended Alison tells Noah that he considers “nothing to be sacred.” It’s an accusation that follows Alison learning that her whole existence has been reduced to a sexpot temptress in Noah’s novel. He demonstrates that he is the master of his own universe by how he turns the people from his life into plot points and character tropes to bring him happiness. It’s a degree of narcissism that’s always been somewhat present in Noah Solloway.
The Affair season 5 has shown that Noah is (somewhat) improving in this capacity, but “508” flips the script on Noah.

The Affair Season 5 Episode 3
“You’ve come full circle…”
Noah continues to be a character that fascinates me in this show because at times I really don’t know if The Affair is a fan of him or not. He’s without a doubt a character that’s done a lot of terrible, selfish things throughout the run of the series, but he has also shown progress in substantial ways. The final season for any series typically addresses how much its characters have grown since the pilot, but that’s kind of what this show is all about.
Noah isn’t just someone who’s had an affair. He’s been tangential to a murder, gone to prison, and witnessed the death of his ex-wife.

'“This is so fucking weird for me.”
It’s a little crazy just how much Noah Solloway’s life has become an analogue for Hank Moody from Californication. This is far from a compliment to Noah, but it’s very easy to picture David Duchovony’s character shrug his way through the exact same plot.
To The Affair’s credit, it feels like Noah has always been interested in fame and lucrative movie deals ever since the show’s first season. Now that Noah is finally living that reality it’s encouraging to see that he doesn’t fall back on old habits and selfishly self-sabotage…yet. Spoiler Alert: This article and interview with Sarah Treem contains details about tonight’s episode of The Affair.
Back for its fifth and final season, Showtime’s The Affair returns with some real surprises. The show was modeled on the varying viewpoints of four main characters: Noah and Helen Solloway, and Alison and Cole Lockhart. Noah (Dominic West) and Helen (Maura Tierney) are the only ones left standing. Ruth Wilson checked out last season, as her troubled Alison — whose affair with Noah launched the drama — was either murdered or committed suicide, with both versions shown during a shocking episode last season. Now, her husband Cole, last seen driving away from Montauk with daughter Joanie asking questions about her dead mother he couldn’t answer, is also gone. Joshua Jackson, a key part of this wonderful quartet of actors who brought startling emotional pain you don’t usually see outside of...

It’s the beginning of the end for The Affair, which starts its fifth and final season by killing off one (and potentially two) characters, and introducing the all-grown-up Joanie Lockhart, played by True Blood‘s Anna Paquin.
Part One: Noah | Noah meets for breakfast with actor Sasha Mann, who is set to direct and star in the film adaptation of Descent. He picks Noah’s brain to better understand the Daniel character, and mimics Noah’s every move, down to the way he puts scrambled eggs on each individual bite of toast. Come break down the Star Trek: Picard Sdcc Trailer with us and the many Easter eggs therein.
The only word to describe the San Diego Comic-Con trailer for Star Trek: Picard is: surprising. It’s surprising partly because so many of the twists are, of course, connected to nostalgia about Star Trek in general. But, no one could have predicted these twists because even though certain things in the trailer feel like fan service, the twists all seem to make sense. Look, to put it another way, we all knew he was going to say “Engage” in the trailer, but how could anyone have called that Data would be back and Seven of Nine would waltz in saying “What the hell are you doing out here Picard?” like she’s some kind of Starfleet hard-boiled detective? In some ways, the entire trailer scans like fan fiction, which,...

The Affair‘s final season is fast approaching, but it doesn’t seem many happy endings are in store.
Showtime on Tuesday released a full-length trailer for Season 5, which promises that “the end of a chapter brings a new beginning” — even though there’s a lot of emotional baggage for these characters to unpack in the meantime.
Much of the trailer (which you can view above) centers on Noah, who attempts to atone for his past mistakes with Helen and his kids. “You walked out on our lives and left me alone with four children,” Helen reminds her ex, who...

This Attack on Titan review contains spoilers.
Attack on Titan Season 3 Episode 15
“I’m counting on ya, buddy.”
“Leave it to me.”
You didn’t think that it was going to be that easy, did you?
When caught up in the isolating throes of battle, it’s easy to idolize the cool lone wolves that operate like sleek armies of one. Someone who can handle their own is usually an intimidating visual, but partners can also be an incredible asset and awaken your fighting spirit in ways that you never thought possible. “Descent” is largely about such a partnership and the teamwork between Reiner and Bertholdt. It analyzes both the past and the present to illustrate how the two have bettered themselves with the help of each other...

If you’ve enjoyed HeroQuest at any time in your life, then you’ll be instantly familiar with what Dungeon Saga: The Dwarf King’s Quest is setting out to achieve. From the bundled tutorial quest to the simple setup and straightforward rules, this 2015 classic from Mantic Games has recently been reprinted to entice a whole new generation of would be dungeon-crawlers into the world of light miniatures gaming. Where Descent and its like are moderately demanding and Gloomhaven demands years of repeated play, a single quest in Dungeon Saga can be setup and completed in little over an hour.
There are some downsides to the older design of Dungeon Saga, so I’ll get those out of the way early. The first, and perhaps most prominent, is that the game is best when played with a Dungeon Master, which means that the game played between a team of adventurers,...

Hey,Riverdale and Luke Perry fans. Today is a very sad day as we've just learned that the current Riverdale Fred Andrews and former Beverly Hills 90210 Dylan McKay star Luke Perry did not recover from the massive stroke that he suffered this past Wednesday morning, February 27, 2019. According to the folks over at TMZ, Luke sadly passed away earlier today, March 4, 2019 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California. TMZ was able to get some information from Luke's rep. The rep told them that Luke was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. TMZ supplied some other details about what happened during Luke's stroke. He was responsive and talking when the EMTs arrived to take him to the hospital. However afterwards, his condition deteriorated. Luke's rep said...

An engaging, if imperfect, Star Wars Resistance raises the stakes with brisk action, low-key revelations, and one heck of a third act.
This Star Wars Resistance episode contains spoilers.
Star Wars Resistance Episode 19
When I saw that this week’s episode was titled “Descent,” I thought it would be about how Yaeger, Neeku, and Kaz had to run down further and further into the depths of the Colossus while being pursued by the First Order. I didn’t expect it to be about the literal descent of the entire Colossus.
Yes, the full, crazy-even-by-Star-Wars-standards plan to lower the entire base into the ocean so they can “swim” to the top of the tower to disable the communication jammer is, to use the cliche, indeed crazy enough to work. For all of my opinions and thoughts on Resistance as a show so far, it definitely needs to start embracing these kinds of more outlandish ideas.

A TV series about the Wwi spy Mata Hari, directed by Roland Joffe, is one of two projects that adorn the debut slate of new production company Palanquin. Noir-thriller “Call Center” completes the initial line up.
Palanquin is jointly headed by producer Guy Louthan and Joffe. The company will focus on producing Southeast Asian projects including India-based film and television projects.
Joffe believes that that the true story of Mata Hari is more bizarre than the lurid reputation that she has since attracted as an exotic dancer and spy. To be produced by John Fitzgerald and Julian Grimmond (“The Amazing Race”), “Mata Hari” is structured as an eight-part series that charts the extraordinary life of Magritte, a Dutch girl who escaped an abusive childhood, fled to the Far East with a brilliant but manipulative adventurer who was more than twice her age, and was sucked into the world of espionage,...

Heroes of Terrinoth is the latest game to join the ranks of the ever-expanding number of card driven adventure games that have recently exploded in popularity. Games in this genre aim to replicate bigger, more expansive dungeon crawling and RPG experiences without the same commitment in time, effort and often money that come with games like Descent, Dungeons & Dragons or Gloomhaven. RPG’s have always favoured commitment and long term play, but what if you could replicate some of the excitement of a story driven campaign, but with a five minute setup time and a much lower outlay?
That, in a nutshell, is the concept of Heroes of Terrinoth. This medium-sized game comes from Fantasy Flight Games and features ten quests in the base game, plus more through various expansions. One to four players can experience it and when played with friends, it is an entirely cooperative experience. There...

Whilst Fantasy Flight Games’ Keyforge has been making a big splash with its procedurally generated decks and fast, fliuid gameplay, Richard Garfield’s latest effort is not the only game to use the technology that Ffg call their “Unique Game” system. Discover: Lands Unknown boasts a designer who is almost as illustrious as Richard Garfield (and possibly more prolific) in Corey Konieczka, a man credited on powerhouse games like Star Wars: Rebellion, Twilight Imperium IV and Descent. Discover: Lands Unknown is less about Konieczka’s design and more about the Unique Game system that it results in, however. My question is, does that make it better, or worse for the players?
For those who haven’t been paying attention to what Ffg has been up to with Keyforge and Discover: Lands Unknown, the Unique Game system is literally what it says it is – where Discover: Lands Unknown is concerned, each...

Xavier Gens’ period chiller “Cold Skin,” based on the 2002 novel by Catalan author Albert Sánchez Piñol, offers a good-looking and well-crafted if familiar chunk of creature-siege horror as two men in a remote setting battle off an army of amphibious attackers each night. Even the critters themselves have a déjà-vu quality — they resemble the pale-white, clammy humanoid predators of the “Descent” movies — though the primary setting of an island lighthouse over a century ago lends some distinctive atmosphere. Already released in several countries, Goldwyn’s planned Sept. 7 U.S. release should do all right with genre fans, though it won’t likely generate any clamor for sequels.
In Piñol’s widely translated book, the protagonist is a disillusioned fighter for Irish independence. Here, there’s no explanation why David Oakes’ young Irishman has decided to spend a year in complete isolation as the meteorologist on an island near the Antarctic Circle,...

Sam Adegoke, who currently stars in CW’s Dynasty reboot, and Frances Fisher are set for 8000 Shots, an indie film which Talia Lugacy wrote and is directing. Rosario Dawson is producing the film with Lugacy, who previously directed Dawson in the 2007 drama, Descent, along with Adegoke, Noah Lang, and Cheyenne Drinkwater.
Adegoke stars as Will Larue, a combat veteran who served in the Iraq war, who loses his friend and fellow vet to suicide, which resurrects his past and forces him to confront the fact that healing from war is not possible.
The pic set in NYC and is currently in production on location.
Previously, Adegoke has appeared Lifetime’s Searching for Neverland and had recurring stints on Freeform’s Switched at Birth and Murder in the First on TNT. He’ll reprise his role as Jeff Colby when Dynasty returns in the fall.

“Doom” and “Wolfenstein 3D” get a lot of credit for kicking off the first-person shooter genre (and deservedly so). Sadly, Parallax Software’s 1995 release, “Descent,” is often forgotten for its contributions to the genre.
For those who might have forgotten (or were too young to enjoy them), Parallax’s “Descent” trilogy added six degrees of freedom, creating twists and turns throughout a number of increasingly complex and hostile asteroids.
Since then, space shooters have built upon “Descent’s” foundation. That’s why Descendent Studios began trying to reboot the franchise back in 2015.
“They had originally Kickstarted what was called ‘Descent Underground’ in April of 2015,” says Matthew Scott, CEO of publisher Little Orbit. “They went to Early Access in October of 2015, and then they went to BrightLocker in 2016. They were in crowdfunding hell. They were making enough to keep the game going, but not enough to finish it.”

When Ronald D. Moore was on the writing team for “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” he rarely appeared on set for the episodes he wrote.
