Woody Allen Wannabee?
Reyes213 February 2006
A film that explores human relationships, the need and the loneliness that envelops many people, those "wounded animals" of the title that populate cities in the Western World.

The couples in this film are unable to communicate, we can see their needs but they cannot explain them to each other, let alone fulfill them for each other. Unhappy and alone while next to each other.

So, drama, couples, city life, lack of communication and the comic tone that Ventura Pons uses to portray the events surrounding his characters.

That may sound roughly familiar but he is, unfortunately, far removed from Woody Allen; he barely manages to create living clichés. His characters soon become flat and unbelievable and the movie inevitably flounders.

This did not happen, for example, in another of his movies: Beloved/Friend, which was truly worthwhile.

Warning: Spoilers
Three different narratives are seen in this Spanish film based on a novel by Jordi Punti. Director Ventura Pons adapted the material for the screen. The tree stories are inter-connected to one another because of the characters are in some ways related because they appear in all the three situations.

The director attempted to make a sophisticated comedy that unfortunately does not go anywhere. Like most of the Spanish films, sex is prominently seen, even though it does not add anything to the stories, or enhance the film, for that matter. There are some familiar faces in the film. Jose Coronado, an excellent Spanish actor, is one of the reasons to watch this film. Aitana Sanchez-Gijon also is in the cast, although she has done better. The supporting players include Cecilia Rossetto, Marc Carles, Cristina Plazas and Patricia Arredondo.
