Cosas divertidas
Trivialidades:
It is never revealed in the film that George Boleyn is a homosexual, but in interviews, Jim Sturgess says that he's more like a girl because he not only is rather catty, but he also is repulsed by marriage of a woman or sleeping with a woman. That explains why he was so afraid of sleeping with Anne, besides the fact of treachery and incest. másGoofs:
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Although Mary is referred to in the film as the younger sister, most historians today are convinced that she was the eldest girl. Her date of birth is circa 1499, while Anne is believed to have been born in the early 1500s (historians continually debate between 1501 and 1507). The book that the film is based on was written with Mary as the younger sister, so the film itself makes no mistake in this arrangement. másQuotes:
Katherine of Aragon: [to the mid-wife, after the birth of her still-born child] Was it a boy?[to her daughter, Mary]
Katherine of Aragon: No brother for you, to make this country safe.

I went to a screening expecting to be disappointed. I wasn't.
first, the script is fairly decent. I'd even say it's reasonably accurate for a Hollywood version of historic events - meaning it's a collection of factoids, selected and often distorted for dramatic purposes. something in the lines of "Shakespeare in Love" without the comedy and random invented persons, heavy on drama instead.
the opening minutes had some slightly cheesy moments and what I thought were faltering accents, but I soon got too caught up in the unfolding events to notice or mind. I know how the story goes of course, but they'd managed to make watching it all roll out very exciting. even though some of the minor characters sound like "exposure, exposure, exposure" whenever they open their mouths, the script works and the pace is good as well - the 2 hours just flew by. (in fact it is almost too fast at times, I think they could have given more background details here and there.) and it is so not just a fancy costume vehicle for starlets du jour that I feared it to be, as both Portman and Johansson do a fabulous job, without being upstaged by their outfits (khm, Cate Blanchett in The Golden Age). Kristin Scott Thomas as their mother and Ana Torrent as queen Catherine are remarkable as well. I also felt for Jim Sturgess as the hapless George Boleyn. the rest of the men, not so much, although Eric Bana was fun to watch in the seduction scenes.
looks-wise, it's decent as well, even if it's probably not the most gorgeous-looking historic drama I've ever seen. the occasional CGI landscape/castle-scape shots are so-so, plus some of the period menswear looks ludicrous, but the dresses are certainly stunning and there's more than you can count.
