When Children Play in the Sky is the story of a Greenlander's life-long spiritual growth and maturation.
navone-127 September 2006
This refreshingly original and captivating story has many of the qualities of Grimm's fairy tales. It is both simple and profound. The film succeeds in communicating the intriguingly spiritual dimension of human life that transcends religious denominational-ism or sectarianism to convey something of the mystery at the inner core of every human being. Its hauntingly beautiful landscapes are not only a feast for the eyes, but also evoke a profound sense of the numinous that pervades this film. The Christian spirit of forgiveness is subtly contrasted with the prevalent traditional spirit of vengeance. The faces of the Greenlanders are as unforgettable as those in Fellini films. Whatever the shortcomings of the film, it always holds your attention.
