Several reviewers consider this film to be very similar to Waking Ned Devine (1998). Both films are set in a small remote village, involve a man winning the lottery and dying of shock with the winning ticket clutched in his hand, two people conspire to take the winnings, the conspiracy expands to involve the whole village, and a single villager attempts to reveal the conspiracy but dies in a car accident. However director Priyadarshan claims it is "totally and absolutely original".
Ritesh Deshmukh was the lead in the film but the film was totally taken on the shoulders of Om Puri and Paresh Rawal for their comic timing.
Anthony's character played by malayalam actor Innocent vareed thekkethala and his voice dubbed by actor Tiku Talsania in Hindi.
Paresh Rawal would cook food for Om Puri on the sets everyday after the pack up he would ask Om Puri what he would like to eat today.
The film was rated poorly by most critics in India but was a surprise hit among cinema-goers.
