When Warner Bros. and Legendary released Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021, the folks at The Asylum quickly put together a mockbuster called Ape vs. Monster, which featured a giant chimpanzee battling a giant Gila monster (after both creatures were enlarged by consuming a mysterious substance leaking from a space capsule). A sequel called Ape vs. Mecha Ape followed in 2023. Now the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is in theatres, and The Asylum will be giving their mockbuster Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order a digital and theatrical release this Friday, April 5th. In anticipation of the release, a trailer has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order has been written and directed by Marc Gottlieb, who previously directed Ape vs. Mecha Ape and the 1995 comedy Cousin Howard. Gottlieb’s other writing credits include Planet of the Sharks,...

Black Noise is the latest film to follow in the footsteps of Predator and takes a group of highly trained professional soldiers and sends them to a remote location on what should be a simple mission only for it to turn into a battle with something beyond their comprehension. Earlier this year Island Escape added a few twists to make it feel fresh, can Black Noise pull off the same feat?
A large man, uniformed and armed, flees through a Carribean rainforest. Whatever he’s running from must be dangerous, his uniform is torn and he’s battered, bloody, and panicked to the point of shooting at moving foliage. Reaching a house he sees a quad parked in the yard, just what he needs to escape. But...

It was bound to happen. Netflix started making and showing original movies, then Amazon, and then Tubi followed suit with Swim. But as Tubi is not a thing here in the UK (thanks Gdpr) we’ve instead had to wait almost two years for the film to hit Blighty. However, don’t get too excited. Given their budget and “free with commercials” format of its source, this isn’t The Irishman or The Tomorrow War. This shark in the house film was made by The Asylum and their frequent director Jared Cohn from a script by Anthony C. Ferrante… so don’t expect Jaws either!
The Samson family Lacey, her father Noah, and kids Charlotte (Brett Hargrave; Weedjies: Halloweed Night) and Tucker (Daniel Grogan) are renting a beach house.

November 10, 2010 is the day that we lost prolific film producer Dino De Laurentiis at the age of 91. He modeled himself after Samuel Goldwyn, and he truly was the last of the great movie moguls. His resume speaks for itself, and no one can deny he had a little Frank Sinatra in him; he did it his way.
His overblown grandiose spectacles are usually the ones I felt the most drawn to. I am not afraid to admit that I like a good bad movie, and Dino made more than his fair share. One of them being King Kong Lives [King Kong 2], a sequel to his own horrid 1976 remake.
What better way to pay tribute to Dino De Laurentiis but to find someone who not only met him, but an individual who worked on one of his pictures who has great stories to tell. Let me step aside for this one and let...

A straight to DVD movie released this year depicted the fate of "Titanic II". The movie, made by The Asylum, tells the story of a new super ship which repeats the Titanic's route 100 years later only to have a tsunami hurl an iceberg at the ship. Although at first you might think the movie is a prank it is actually the work of The Asylum. This Los Angeles-based studio makes low-budget, straight-to-dvd, effect heavy movies which are either homages or blatant covers of the movie. Wired has described their work as "uniformly dreadful films, notable mainly for their stilted dialogue, flimsy-looking sets (which are frequently recycled), and turns by faded stars such as Judd Nelson and C. Thomas Howell ... But in general, the Asylum's films aren't ironic or campy, and they're certainly not parodies. They are actually unnervingly earnest." They are essentially the kings of the "mockbuster" and have created...
