Not just another vampire anime
co_patrick6 September 2007
NOTE: I have seen the whole 50-episode series already, but not to worry, this is a NO-SPOILER review.

I used to watch a fair amount of anime, but over the past few years, my interest in it had been gradually waning, partly because of the decreasing number of good shows being produced, and partly because of lack of time due to my heavy workload.

However, this trend was reversed when I had the good fortune of coming across Blood+. I had never heard of it before, but the premise seemed interesting enough, though not particularly original or unique. I decided to give it a shot, expecting at least a decent and entertaining show but not much more than that.

But what I got was much, much more I had dared to hoped for. What starts out as a fairly conventional storyline gradually unravels, revealing a vastly more complex and intricate narrative tapestry. Its deliberate pacing may be misconstrued by some as being "slow", but as the story progresses, all the puzzle pieces that are uncovered early on start to fall into place, and things that once seemed insignificant or nonsensical begin to make sense.

As for the technical merits of this show, other people have already discussed its superb animation and hauntingly evocative soundtrack, so I won't go into too much detail on them. Suffice it to say that they complement the mood of the series exceptionally well.

However, what really won me over was the exceptional character development displayed here. Without giving too much away, I can say that these characters actually felt like real, living, breathing people and not just 2-D images on the TV screen. They change and evolve as time goes by, and after a particular event occurs, don't be surprised if you find yourself regarding certain characters in a totally different light.

To make a long story short, Blood+ is one of only a handful of shows that transcends the boundaries of its genre, and one of the best amines I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. In fact, it practically single-handedly revived my passion for anime and spurred me on to seek many other great shows, which I probably would not have bothered to watch otherwise. And that is probably the greatest compliment one can pay to any medium of entertainment.

Very moving anime
chrichtonsworld9 February 2007
The first episode will blow you away! The visuals and animation is excellent. It gives you an idea what to expect from the series. The story is beautifully told and has some nice characters. At first it seems like a simple tale about good versus evil. But further in the series it gets clear it isn't that simple. Matters are more complicated because the characters cannot be defined as pure good or pure evil. The good characters have their bad sides and the evil characters show their good sides. Like in real life. In "Blood +, a lot is happening and judging the first episodes it seems like an action series. But after having seen all episodes I now know it is a drama. A very good one indeed. It is about the characters. Saya, Kai and Haji and all the other characters have an important role and illustrate how special Saya (main character) is. There are a lot of episodes in which you can relate to some of the characters. Drawn into the series you will be moved. The pace is a bit slow. And they sure took their time for "Saya', to realize and remember who she is. I also expected some spectacular growth in strength and abilities. Certainly when you compare it with "The chevaliers". But I think most of her strength comes from inside and her love for her friends and all other people. The music is wonderful and makes the anime more moving. Sometimes it will be difficult to follow this series, but if you stick with it,you will be rewarded!

very ENGROSSING sci-fi anime.
mooogles10 August 2006
Let me note that I have watched Blood+ ep.1 - 26, whilst the series will go up to 52 episodes (i think).

It has been a while since I have seen a decent anime. A breather from the mainstream Naruto or Bleach, Blood+ does not seem to have too many fan base on the internet, and can easily slip by as "just another anime." Luckily this is not case for me as it turned out to be quite an impressive anime.

The plot at first seems very conventional for its genre, however it gets more engrossing as each episode passes by. As the story unfolds, the characters becomes more lively, and colorful with emotions. The graphics are very solid, and beautifully animated. Just as the title for-shadows, it does get quite bloody, and gory here and there (but nothing too obscene).

Overall, it is a very enjoyable anime so far. It is far more entertaining than Naruto and Bleach, as the plot unfolds fairly quickly. I will have no regrets spending 22hours (52 ep.) watching this anime ha ha.

Amazing, one of my fav anime's of all time
oldlostcory25 September 2006
I've seen a lot of anime in my day. I have to say this is one of my favorites. I've just recently finished the whole series. From beginning to end its all drawn beautiful and the music is amazing. I won't get into detail about any plot seeing as others have. But the character development in this series is exceptional. It really does make you start to care for the characters. I have only felt that way with two other animes(fma, Rurouni kenshin).

Top notch show, great plot whole way through the series. Also biggest thing unlike other shows nowadays, there are no filler episodes! Well done on an amazing series.

Immense
catterix14 November 2005
So far, only 5 episodes of the new show "Blood+" have been released, I've seen up to episode 4 and I must say that this is one incredible show! With a design that merges CGI and Hand drawn animation so seamlessly and a storyline that is more exciting than Buffy and more addictive than anything else I've ever seen (Except maybe Naruto) this is one immense show that is a definite tribute to the film.

Originally, back in 2001, the creators of Ghost In The Shell decided to create a 6-episode OVA series about a vampiress who kills vampires. The first episode was made, being one of the first to blend CGI and hand animation so brilliant, and also becoming an instant success over here in the western world. However, the cost of the first episode was too much, and there wasn't enough money to support the 45 minute episodes, so the show was cancelled after the first ep. The first episode was then re-released onto DVD, simply entitled as "Blood: The Last Vampire" and took itself as a 45 minute film.

But, with the success of DVD sales for the film, the company started up on the project again, this time creating a 52 episode series entitled "Blood+" which was created to give a bit more background to the series and also to add more characters and more story, allowing the original story to be developed even further than the original 6 episode plan could have done. The show is still just beginning, but it is already incredible, within the first 2 minutes of the first episode I was hooked. This show also does that evil technique of ending each episode with a cliff-hanger (Much like Naruto) and as each cliff-hanger is sooo exciting, you watch the next episode the following week to find out what happens.

This show is still finding its ground, but thanks to the roaring success of the Film, the gorgeous action, interesting and believable characters (ignoring the fact 1 of them is a vampire...) and an attractive story, this TV show should become one of the great anime-classics such as Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin. I have a whole year until this show is completed, and I will watch as a devoted fan. I hope you all do too as this show is just INCREDIBLE!

My love for anime just got stronger.
awpkiller215 December 2008
I only write a review here when I see something I really like or really really hate. I had to write this and get it out of my mind. So here I am.

This is the best anime series I have seen so far. I saw it all in 2 days 50 episodes and must say I couldn't stop. The feeling I got from this anime series is undesirable. It's almost like you're happy that you saw it and sad that is over. I'm a great fan of other series like Bleach, Banner of the stars, Claymore and some more. But the story/plot of Blood+ is by far the best, not to mention the music, it's absolutely amazing. One can tell that there is hard work and a lot of feelings behind it all. I have never been interested in downloading anime soundtracks until now. What I liked most about Blood is that there are no filler episodes what so ever. Great story, and characters are as alive as you can get in a drawing. It made me see the characters as if they were real, and that's some accomplishment. The animation is good, but not the best I have seen so far. But it's decent and has some mixed CG sequences along the episodes. I'm looking forward for seeing more of Junichi Fujisaku work and hope that he makes more anime like this. So I like to thank all of the artists behind this wonderful work. Thank you for your hard work.

Slow start, but don't give up, it gets really good!!
dark-cookieman11 October 2007
I've seen the entire series (subbed) of Blood +.

I discovered that a series existed, and after loving 'Blood - The Last Vampire', I had to find 'Blood +'.

I di find it! First off, it's best not to compare the series directly to the feature, at least not right away.

I admit, it takes a while to start, to the point where you think nothing is ever going to happen! You actually feel like shouting at Saya "C'Mon! Get a move on!". However, it does eventually start, and from there on it's a story of twists and turns, though never really any that shock or surprise. There are a few interesting sub-plots to follow, that fill in the background for the series and give it a more three dimensional feel rather than it being all about Saya, but at the same time is linked to her.

Sometimes I felt like I couldn't connect with the characters, where I should be emotional, I found that I wasn't bothered about them, not really. Saying that, perhaps some of the emotion was lost in translation through reading the subtitles...I do look forward to a good dub. Yes, true anime fans can still like dubs!! The soundtrack is very nice too, unique music that gives each series it's own feel, music that fits well with the mood.

It's well worth watching, you just have to get past the first 8-9 eps without giving up on it!

Good anime, ridiculous characters
siderite19 January 2008
This is a series based on an anime movie called "Blood: the Last Vampire". The animation is good, without being great, the music is above average up until the middle of the series when some meaningless teen pop music is added as the final track. The story is interesting, but it makes no sense in the long run, but what's really annoying is the personalities of the characters.

Basically you have a good vampire queen with a vampire servant and a whole bunch of human friends fighting the evil vampire queen with a whole bunch of vampire servants and a whole bunch of human employees. The good always seem to win because the bad are either bored or completely distracted by other things, while the few situations that could be exploited in the advantage of the main character end in emotional outbursts and impotent tears.

What makes it even more ridiculous is that these vampires can only be killed by the blood of the other kind of vampire. Still there are always humans ready to shoot their little guns and (sometimes) shotguns or SMGs. Can anyone guess what happens to them?

I watched all the 50 episodes in order to get to the bottom of the story. It was a complete mess, but now it's over, I can move on. Bottom line: there are a lot of worse animes out there, but there are a lot of them that are better, as well.

Bound to go down in Anime history!
chop_suey_soad4 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
If anyone can remember the earlier release of Blood: The Last Vampire, this series is the sequel to the events at the beginning of the Vietnam war. Now in the modern age, Saya has lost all memory of her past and is being taken care of by a foster family. Even with the first episode you're bound to be hooked to the amazing visuals! Production I.G. have made the bold decision to ditch the Gothic horror feel and replace it with a mellow, happy, clam mood. This works well; this is common within family programs.

The only worrying thing now is the question 'Will this ever make it into a western audience?' - only time will tell!

Beautiful!
DarkSidhe19 February 2008
Commenting first on the art, this series is luscious. The colors are vibrant and moodsetting throughout the episodes. Detail is everything and Blood Plus has it in spades. If looked at purely for graphics, this is one of the few truly gorgeous animes out at this time.

From a plot stand point, the series faithfully follows the characters superbly inre their development as time passes. There really aren't any gimmicks or quick shots. Character personalization, which is often lacking in many animes, is delivered here. Episode to episode, they reveal depths undreamt of when the characters are initially revealed. Chills and goosebumps abounded when I watched for the first time.

For me, this was an anime that was enjoyable the first time through and definitely has the ability to be watched over and over. Each time, new levels are revealed as you focus on different emotions brought to the table in a lush and thought provoking manner.

Watch it for the psychology or watch it for the shallow surface which covers the true depths. This is not an anime that disappoints. I absolutely loved it!

What's with all the negativity?
bluwlf_850319 March 2008
I'm finding that there seem to be quite a few more negative reviews than positive. I don't really see what's so "nearly awful" about this series. Granted, I haven't quite reached the end of the series yet, but I quite like it. It's got great style. The art is beautiful. I found the story rather compelling. On top of it all, the action is nearly addictive without being too over the top. I think it's a wonderful series. I do, however kind of wish that there was a bit more visual continuity between Blood: TLV and the series. Saya didn't look at all like she did in the movie. I also felt that the series could have used a few of the darker touches found in the movie. But all in all I feel that both are stylistically winning. I'm eager to finish the series.

Blood+ The Must See Series
moonslaughter2167 January 2007
I fell in love with the movie Blood: the last vampire..as most of you know I'm sure its the series is a continuation from that movie. I loved the movie from the first time i watched it. Then...when i found out there was a series to go along with it i was ecstatic!! I was so happy that i immediately bought the first 4 volumes (episodes 1-33) I loved the series so much that i practically watched all four volumes in two days. (lol) The series is action-packed and has an amazing storyline. If you love action-packed anime...with sort of a hinted romance you'll love this. I highly, highly recommend this series to any anime fan. And there are some rumors of Blood: the last vampire being remade in 2007. So cross your fingers and hope that its true.

ehhhhhh
beehatch224 November 2007
Episode 34 hit this week. I've been watching the show pretty religiously up to this point just because it was sandwiched between Bleach and Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig repeats (amazing show). Both shows were considerably better than blood. Blood would get better, then get worse again, repeatedly. They seem to be unable to maintain the level of quality they occasionally reach.

A few episodes ago a major character died and I couldn't care less- this really cemented the realization that this show is all style and cliché's with no real heart.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen plenty of bad mindless anime, and this isn't a bad show. But when I started watching adult swim we had such shows on as Ghost in the Shell, Samurai Champlo, Full Metal Alchemist, FLCL. All of which were really, really exceptional shows that managed to draw me in despite my not being a huge fan of anime.

Blood + just isn't of that caliber and now that Bleach has apparently been canceled and Ghost in the Shell repeats have wrapped up, the show just isn't strong enough to keep watching just to see what happens.

Blood:the Last Vampire this is not
Roman_the_Empire21 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Yes folks, somebody at Production IG had the great idea of turning Blood: the Last Vampire into a fullblown TV series. However, instead of maintaining the noirish horror/suspense feel of the OVA, Production IG has decided to give this version a more lighthearted, teener-friendly feel.

It's basically an alternate setting for the Blood franchise, as the backstory contradicts information presented in B:tLV. Instead of being a dark, brooding killer with an aversion to holy symbols and a disturbing sword-fetish, this Saya is an anemic, yet bubbly little teener with a serious bout of amnesia. Things change however, once the first Chiropteran steps in, and Saya is forced into the role of champion. In fact, the characterization stays throughout most of the series, even when she finally remembers her past.

And this is what is troubling with the anime. The main character, Saya, seem to have graduated from the Ikari Shinji School of Reluctant Heroism. Despite having vampire powers, she remains ineffectual throughout most of the series, to the point that she ends up endangering the lives of several allies. It was cool when Evangelion did it, but honestly, can we not have another procrastinating, guilt-ridden hero? It's becoming as old as my mother's sense of fashion.

Conversely, Kai, Saya's foster brother, acts more like the hero for any generic super-fantasy-martial-arts anime, without the super martial arts powers. He constantly spends his time getting into the line of fire, despite becoming aware early on that he's more likely to become bat-chow in the face of even the weakest Chiropteran.

Both these characters get a personality overhaul after episode 33, but by then it's too little, too late; you've already been subjected to 32 episodes of whining heroine and headstrong idiot.

Art-wise, the characters look good. Again, it's not the more photorealistic, noir look of B:tLV, but it's pretty nonetheless, maintaing the original's fusion of traditional cel-animation and CG work. The characters are mostly animated well, although some episodes have shoddy in-between work, resulting in choppy-looking animation.

The Japanese dub is passable, although there are a few times when the voice actors are not properly synched with the animation. What puts me off though is the fact that it has a multinational setting, but all the characters speak perfect Nihongo. Even in 19th century Russia. This tends to be jarring especially since the OVA used either bilingual seiyu or American voice actors when necessary.

Overall, it's a more kid friendly version of Blood the Last Vampire. So if you found the original too dark, and if you prefer your heroes weak and ineffectual, then this series is for you.

Saya is a mysterious girl that doesn't know her past . As she regains her memory, Saya discovers most of her "life", not true. Can't wait to see episode 3! New to anime? I recommend the 2001 release, "Blood: The Last Vampire". Its shows what the best of anime is all about, and you meet Saya (vampire anti heroine) for the first time. She's a warrior like Kill Bill , ala "Bladette". It's still not clear what the relationship is between Saya, and the U.S. Miltarys' Black Ops Squad. I want to see the origins of this character , that seems to be where they're going. So far so good. The biggest surprise of all was the music production. Academy Award Winner, Hans Zimmer (Gladiator)! There are brilliant performances by a cellist that provides amazing musical depth to one of the main characters in this series. This one is a winner!

A beautifully directed tale...although not suitable for the under-aged at times lol.
rakkoondosari7 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
So far, I'm up to the 45th episode. The story does get extremely sad frequently, like when George (saya's foster father) dies, when Mui (the poor orphan Vietnamese girl in Vietnam) turns in to a Chiroptera and Riku (Kai's younger bro) never sees her again, when Riku himself dies in the hands of the evil and twisted Diva (she's pretty though) and also when the Schiff group dies as well (they are the ones who thought that they needed Saya's blood to avoid the Thorn virus but it turned out that it killed Irene (the beautiful blond Schiff who really loved Kai) a sad and tragic death, made me cry lol. but i hope that they continue up to more than 50eps. I hope that they all go back to Okinawa and all of those who died and were "good guys" come back and live with Kai and Saya in Okinawa. I also want Red Shield to come back!

It's a long ride, but it's worth it
Druterium23 February 2019
To start off, I would say that Blood+ rates as one of my top 5 anime series, and I'm very picky when it comes to that. That said, it also has its flaws, and falls victim to a few typical anime tropes, but I'm not going to spend time in this review making excuses for them. In my opinion, the overall "journey" was a satisfying one. However, if you're looking for more of what you saw in the movie Blood: The Last Vampire, this show is not really the same in its overall tone or art style.

Pros:
  • Different take on the vampire mythos (no garlic, crosses, wooden stakes, etc.) featuring main characters with intricate backstories
  • Story that blends classic vampire rivalries with high-tech conspiracies, and includes tie-ins to real-life historical periods & events
  • Strong emphasis on themes dealing with the bonds of family, coping with mental trauma, crisis of identity, and fighting against hopeless odds
  • An art style that is a bit more grounded and realistic than typical anime, with technical/mechanical art (weapons, vehicles) that is fairly accurate to reality
  • Excellent musical score (also, one of the characters is a cellist)

Cons:
  • The pacing is more slow and deliberate than many action anime series, which is not everybody's thing
  • Although the series starts and ends strong, the 2nd half of the show is more drawn out and meanders at times (probably could have told the story in 3 seasons instead of 4)
  • Like most series, is the victim of a few anime tropes (i.e. "monster-slaying high school girl", "The Chosen One Syndrome", and "dark, brooding male lead")
  • The English translation and dub alter some conversations so much that they sound illogical or sappy compared to the original dialogue

Slow developing plot. Not serious but not too corny either.
Wm_Gardner1 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Could be a better show with about 1/2 as many episodes. Plot took too long to develop. Intro to episodes are very long too. Vampirish characters who have been used for genetic studies. An adopted family who instantly bond better than most biological ones. Nearly everyone important to Saya dies. And it all takes way too long to happen....

It is like it tries to be serious like "Witch Hunter Robin" without ever getting as dark. There are enough elements to make it interesting but it also has a soap opera feel that drags it out. If I had not been watching this on Netflix, and actually had to wait from week-to-week, I would have surely given up on the series. It was OK but not good enough for me to recommend the time commitment, unless you are stuck at home sick for several days.

Nearly Awful
dj-25815 June 2007
Motivated by the great 'Blood: The Last Vampire', I started with pleasant anticipation 'Blood+', only to be disappointed from the beginning.

I persevere hoping that the story will go its own way and being more interesting in later episodes.

But it was gloomy.

'Blood: The Last Vampire' has no outreaching story, but has a formidable style, some convincing characters and a peculiar art.

'Blood+' seems to be made pregnant by stereotypes, and nothing more than this.

Boring!

I needed a lot of willpower to survive viewing this 'lousy job', just to write this comment.

Astounding peaks with low valleys.
jaywolfenstien3 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Had I stopped watching midway through the 50 episode span to pen this review, you would read an overall lukewarm reaction.

The story frequently seems to get distracted with a large cast of characters from the lead protagonist Saya, her family, the Red Shield, the Chevaliers, the Cinqfleche corporation, and the Schiff. Saya, herself, struggles to remember her past, what she is, her fighting potential, and her destiny across a painful span of over a dozen episodes. Inconsistencies abound, especially in regards to characters inexplicably seeming invincible until the next encounter where they suddenly have weaknesses. In episodes 20-30, poor Saya exists to be beat up on to show how tough the rest of the crew is. The chiropterans can only be destroyed with Saya's blood giving way to a pointless gun fight once every half-dozen episodes or so. Sometimes the bullets slow them down; sometimes they don't even flinch. It all depends on what characters are in danger.

But long before any faults popped up, Blood+ introduces the ever sympathetic Saya Otonashi, an innocent girl discovering she's an otherworldly warrior. And when her eyes turn red after tasting blood, when she unsheathes her katana for the first time and springs into action to Mark Mancina's adrenaline rush of a score, I knew I was in for something special. Sure, the series would wander into waters I didn't much care for, but on the promise of those early episodes, I stayed with it.

I wanted to stay with Saya.

Despite the action-oriented premise – Saya and her sister, Diva, waging war with one another in the world of humans – Blood+ remains forever focused on the characters, their relationships, and their individual conflicts. Her 'brothers' Kai and Riku, love her as a member of their own family, wish to help and protect her, but what can they do against creatures Saya, and Saya alone, can destroy? Their conscience tell them to be there, to stand beside her, yet they only seem to get in the way and put themselves in unnecessary danger.

Saya's faithful servant and Chevalier, Hagi, harbors a long held unspoken love for his mistress. Expressing his feelings through quiet, unquestioning, obedience. "When this is all over," Saya pleads in one of the most potent flashbacks, "I want you to kill me, Hagi." He embraces her and answers, "if that is what you wish." But in the meantime, he doesn't hesitate to jump in the line of fire to protect her. Should he need to sacrifice himself, Hagi won't even blink. He'll do it without question nor regret.

The one-armed Chevalier of Diva, Carl has an ongoing blood-feud with Saya. In flashbacks, we discover he lost his limb to her long ago which fuels an obsession-like lust for revenge. But even though early on he outmatches Saya, he refuses to deliver the killing blow. "You don't remember yet" he laments and retreats, vowing to finish Saya after she's regained her memories … after she comes to full strength. Anything less would be a hollow victory.

Solomon, another of Diva's Chevaliers, falls in love with Saya, leading him to strive for peace between the two sisters and ultimately forcing him to choose between his mistress and her eternal enemy. Does he side with Diva and murder the woman he loves, or does he betray Diva and pursue an impossible love with she who has no reason to even trust him?

Along this epic journey, Saya and her companions meet up with experimental chiropterans called the Schiff who broke free from their captivity, but face an artificially shortened lifespan. In Saya's blood, they see their salvation, and being created as weapons they seek it the only way they know how: through violence. But then a human shows them another way.

Of course, more allies stand by to assist and guide Saya (David, Julia, Luis, Joel), and others stand to oppose her (James, Nathan, Van.) All are interesting in their own right (David and Joel's heritage interwoven with Saya's history) and have interesting quirks (Van's obsession with candy, and Nathan's … flamboyance?) All fight for their own reasons, and those reasons are threaded through the fifty episode span of Blood+.

With so many long-running interesting tangents to deal with, I'm not surprised director Junichi Fujisaku seems to get side-tracked on occasion. But here's what's interesting: though the build-up almost always struck me as mishandled, somehow when it came to the payoffs Blood+ delivered. Throughout the story, characters grow and evolve. Saya and Kai in episode 50 are not the Saya and Kai from episode 1. Characters die, and the tragedy resonates with a very real sense of loss.

The series has plot problems, yes. Pacing issues, faulty logic, and an almost self-parody habit of characters ominously looking out only to say "Saya" or "Diva." But you know what? The strength in its characters never wavers. They're fascinating in and of themselves, and their dynamic relationships with one another only magnifies that fascination.

When Saya and Diva finally stood across from each other, swords drawn and dripping with their own blood for the final battle, I'm glad I stayed with it. Blood+ truly was something special.

i don't know if there will be spoilers, i just do it anyway. cya, y'know?
threenorns-16 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
it wasn't bad enough for me to shut off, but it wasn't good enough for me to actually watch it. i had it on the monitor next to me and honestly, i think i actually watched about 5min out of every 2 or 3 episodes, yet was able to follow the story perfectly.

what is right: cool concept. kai has a pleasant voice. haji is hot.

what is not: where to start!??

first off, have they never heard of background music? the music in here is minimal, used strictly in the same way as a laugh track - to let you know that this scene is actually pretty dramatic so you can stop laughing now.

the art: two-dimensional and pretty rudimentary, really. artists need to learn how to draw noses - Saya and others were often drawn with noses cut so short they looked like skull-faces.

credibility: are there seriously - SERIOUSLY - no people with epicanthic folds in all of japan and Vietnam? why do they all have Japanese names if they're all white, blonde, blue-eyed, etc?

the voices: dreadful. i was on the 8th episode before i discovered that the reason the German accent was so awful was because the character was, in fact, french. a million foreign accents tossed into a polyglot salad and not a one of them done right. the Jamaican accent was particularly painful - it takes more than using a Swedish Chef accent and throwing in the word "mon" at the end of every sentence to make a Jamaican accent.

the storyline: okay, i'm sorry, but that bit with riku? that was just pervy. lay off the perv, guys - i don't care if you're Japanese, different culture, blah blah, you're marketing over here, now.

the blue roses: .... i have no idea what that was all about.

haji: halfway through the series, i was actually speaking to him saying "omg, dude! grow a pair!". it got very tedious listening to him pledge his undying love again and again and again with those mopey, soulful gazes that she'd return with eyes brimming with all the love and affection of a dead salmon.

saya: whiny, whimpering little sot.

i changed my mind - from a 4, i'm making this a 2. not bad enough to be actually awful, but not good enough to watch, definitely not for a second time.

Blood+ - 13 episodes review
adilson-217 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Wat can I say about blood+ well I'll go straight to it "It rocks", the story line is intriguing, every episode will make you watch the next one since questions are always bought forward but never answered i.e. Saiku was she made, why does her blood destroy the monsters, what is diva and if you have watched up to episode 13 "Is diva a creature cause thats what they hint. The anime series start slow with Saiku practising at school but in a rapid way her world gets twisted and she finds out more the she can handle, i love how her friend awakes her by giving her blood on the beginning episodes (I forgot his name cant be bothered to watch d episode to find the name). The best thing about blood its not just mad killing it has a plot and it gives hints about Siuku & what she is, however it doesn't answer the questions. This anime is more for a mature audience who enjoy action, great story line & cool graphics. The sad thing bout blood+ its d time its Tooo short, every time the best parts come i.e. when she looses control, it ends and i must wait for the next episode. Then we get the baddies (excuse the wording) they play an important row as they seem to know more about Saiku then we do ,however its hard to tel if they actually fear her or not. The anime has a lot of twists, i admit it may start slow but it is worth watching. "If anyone knows where i can find episodes 14 above please post it here so i can review it"

If you like a Vampire queen that is virtually helpless than this is your show

Yet another anime that has a lot of fans for reasons I will never understand. Drama for the sake of drama with a main charachter thats a vampire queen and is too scared to move half the time. Ridiculous. Quite a stupid anime for the most part. Little girls might get something out of it though.

Boring, plot proof protagonist, no sense at all
andreygeorgescu9 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Its just so bad i dont even know where to begin. Animation is normal, nothing special. Caracthers are pretty ridiculous but kind of interesting at begining.

What i cant wrap my head around is that they could had killed Saya over 100 times but they never did. 1 fell in love with her, 1 wanted her to remember first, 1 wanted to but didnt want to at the same time. And tge strongest one kept ordering the killing of saya without moving a finger. Diva for some reason also never really tried to kill her. All battles were action 2 minutes then retreat leaving everyone alive. Just so frustrating. Hagi lost all battles and was basically a shield just because he went serious 1 time and Saya looked sad at him... So since then he never fought serious .. Also supposely only the blood of the queens can kill chivalias, but several times they said if they loae too much blood they can die too, so basicaly anyone can cut them to pieces. Also once they said a really big fall can also kill them.

Wtf is the blue rose???

Why is saya so damn weak constantly all anime then at the end when she is so weak she cant stand or see becuae neeeds to enter 30 years sleep, she manages to defeat diva.

Diva chivalies loved her so much that 1 abandoned her, 1 ignored her just to kill saya, 1 watched her die and then begged to be killed too.

Why they cant use her blood in weapons? At the end of the anime hagi killed the big dude with a sword imbued with saya blood, so it was possible all this time... Tge story is somewhat interesting eclipsed by such bad execution and caracther personalities.
