ITV boss Carolyn McCall said former “This Morning” anchor Phillip Schofield’s relationship with a young runner on this show was “deeply inappropriate” due to the “imbalance of power.”
McCall was appearing before a U.K. Culture Media and Sport Committee (Cms) parliamentary inquiry on the working culture and duty of care at ITV following the controversy around Schofield and his time on the long-running daytime show.
McCall was joined by ITV’s MD for media and entertainment Kevin Lygo and general counsel Kyla Mullins.
Mullins detailed the company’s investigation of Schofield’s affair, telling the Cms committee the runner – who is being referred to during proceedings as “Person X” – was asked by ITV 12 times about his relationship with Schofield and denied it each time. She said Schofield also repeatedly denied the claims until he resigned last month.

‘Love Island’ was back on air Monday for the first time since the death of former host Caroline Flack on Feb. 15. Amid the reality series’ return, broadcaster ITV insists it supported the star after she was removed from the show.
Monday night’s episode began somberly with narrator Iain Stirling providing voiceover over scenes of crashing waves and South Africa’s coastline.
“We are all absolutely devastated by the tragic news that Caroline, a much loved member of our ‘Love Island’ family, has passed away,” said Stirling, who is never seen on the show. “Caroline and me were together from the very start of ‘Love Island,’ and her passion, warm and enthusiasm connected with millions of viewers.
He continued, “Right now, we are all just trying to come to terms with what happened. I hope we can all be kinder, always show love and listen to one another. Caroline, I...

Top executives from U.K. TV giant ITV, including CEO Carolyn McCall, answered questions about Love Island and the use of lie detector tests on such talk shows as the recently canceled The Jeremy Kyle Show, as part of a British parliamentary committee probe into reality TV in London on Tuesday.

Debate continues to sway about the merits or otherwise of director Joe Wright’s Oscar contender, Darkest Hour. The movie seems certain, with some justification, to land Gary Oldman a best actor Oscar statue for his portrayal of Winston Churchill. Notwithstanding the fact that Brian Cox also put in an excellent take on the former British Prime Minister in the less successful Churchill last year (a weaker film, but as good a performance), Oldman’s work is superb, all the more so given the amount of make up and prosthetics he’s buried under.

With the remake of the 1980s soap opera arriving today, what better time to take a nostalgia-filled lookback at Dynasty?
Cast your mind back, if you can, to the year of 1981. Bucks Fizz, Adam and the Ants and Soft Cell were storming the charts, Only Fools And Horses aired its first series on BBC One and Gregory’s Girl was playing in a cinema near you. Meanwhile, stateside, ABC had cooked up a suitably glamorous and scandalous competitor to Dallas, the CBS drama packed full of Stetsons and suspense. The world may have recently discovered who shot J.R., but there was still plenty of room for the Carringtons.
Enter Dynasty, a show based around the business and family of oil tycoon Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) whose recent marriage to his former secretary Krystle (Linda Evans) was making waves within the family mansion. With the Colby family...

Can lovely, innocent Blind Date really exist in the same tawdry world as Take Me Out?
Blind Date is coming back this weekend. So much has changed since the 1980s, both on TV and in society itself, that what returns to our screens may not be a straight-forward, fully-intact teleport of the format, but rather a mutant mish-mash: a half-fly Jeff Goldblum of a show just begging to be put out of its misery. The truth of this inevitable transformation can be seen in the steps already taken up the light-entertainment evolutionary ladder, most notably in the DNA of ITV's long-running post-Blind Date offering, Take Me Out.

It was only ever meant to be a temporary stop-gap while Trisha was off-air, but fast-forward 10 years and The Jeremy Kyle Show remains a staple of ITV's daytime schedule.
Say the name 'Jeremy Kyle' to most people and they'll probably look back at you with some sense of disgust, a feeling which grows stronger when you try and explain that it's actually brilliant television. Yes, technically it's awful, but that doesn't stop it being bizarrely great.
The show is a strange relic of daytime TV. Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, chatshows like Kilroy, Trisha, The Jerry Springer Show and Ricki Lake were all the rage in Britain, but nowadays Kyle easily rules the roost. So much so in fact that no-one really bothers to try and emulate him.

Jeremy Kyle is to host a new daytime series on ITV.
The talk show host will discuss medical complaints with guests in his studio on The Emergency Room each afternoon.
The show has been described as a cross between The Jeremy Kyle Show and Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies.
He will work alongside doctors and nurses in hospital wards who are treating patients with STIs, embarrassing rashes and other ailments.
Kyle's popular daytime show has become infamous for its daily use of lie detector and DNA tests.
ITV has sent a call out for people aged 16 or above to feature on the show.
Last year, the former radio DJ hosted ITV evening show The Kyle Files, which at one point saw him get pepper sprayed by a club bouncer.

Did anyone ever wonder why Americans gave us Brits such a hard time for having bad teeth?
We certainly did, until that is we flicked on The Jeremy Kyle Show one morning and saw a dental disaster that made it all clear.
Gemma Swift appeared on the show earlier this year, but it wasn't her 'stop harassing me just because I'm sleeping with your ex' story that got viewers talking - it was her teeth.
ITV has now stumped up £10,000 to have them straightened, according to The Mirror.
The broadcaster also filmed the procedure, which will air on Thursday's (March 5) edition of The Jeremy Kyle Show.
The clip capturing the moment Jeremy Kyle was pepper-sprayed by a bouncer in Magaluf was recently unveiled.
The presenter was accosted while filming an episode of The Kyle Files last summer. Watch below:...

To call Mel & Sue a "brand new chat show" is a cheeky move from ITV.

Jeremy Kyle has spoken about the moment he was pepper-sprayed in the face, and has also admitted to having regular Botox treatments.
The daytime host was in Magaluf in July last year when a bouncer sprayed him while he was filming a new TV series.
Speaking to The Sun, Kyle explained: "I was filming in Magaluf and the producers decided they needed a shot of me walking up the main strip.
"We turned the corner and it was a bit like being the Pied Piper. There must have been thousands of people chanting 'Jezza'... or 'w**ker!'
"Then all of a sudden I couldn't breathe, my eyes were streaming and my lungs were burning. I'd been pepper-sprayed by a bouncer.
"My security guard grabbed me and marched me through the shouting crowds to the van... it was the longest 100-yard walk of my life. I didn't even have time to feel frightened.

Ofcom is investigating an episode of The Jeremy Kyle Show for airing the word "f**k".
The pre-recorded show was broadcast on ITV earlier this month at 9.25am, while strong language is usually limited to a post-watershed slot after 9pm.
The morning show often features guests swearing, but they are usually bleeped out before being broadcast.
A spokesman for Ofcom said: "Ofcom is currently investigating the broadcast of offensive language before the watershed in an episode of The Jeremy Kyle Show, on ITV on November 4."
Meanwhile, Channel 5's Big Brother has been ruled in breach of Ofcom guidelines, after the word 'piss' was broadcast multiple times in the course of one conversation.
The pre-recorded show was broadcast on ITV earlier this month at 9.25am, while strong language is usually limited to a post-watershed slot after 9pm.

Going into I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! is a dangerous business.
We're not talking about the poisonous spiders, bitey snakes or what might be lurking in the dunny.
No. When the frightened famous faces leap out of the plane and parachute into the jungle, they are taking their careers in their hands.
And while being on I'm a Celeb can revitalise a flagging career, it can also ruin it if you come out unfavourably during a campside spat or six.
Ahead of the show launching tonight, Digital Spy present our very own Snakes and Ladders. Who had a slippery slide down the public's favour? And who climbed the career ladder when they got to the other side of the rope bridge?
The Ladders
1. Katie Price (and Peter Andre)

Jeremy Kyle has overcome his fear of creepy crawlies after undergoing psychotherapy.
The daytime TV presenter decided to confront his phobia in an episode of his own ITV show, due to air on Monday (July 14).
At the start of the taping, 49-year-old Kyle told the talkshow audience: "I have a terrifying fear of basically anything that crawls about the place."
He then introduced celebrity therapists Nik and Eva Speakman, who promised to change the way he saw spiders, insects and snakes using schema conditioning methods.
"I am, for the first time in ten years, terrified," Kyle told the duo. "Absolutely every part of my comfort zone has gone."
After explaining that he had been afraid of creepy crawlies for over 40 years, Kyle told the Speakmans that his fear extended to "spiders, rats, snakes... daddy long legs" and more.
"If there's a spider in the room, I couldn't kill it," he added.

Jasmin Walia loses it in the next instalment of The Only Way Is Marbs (June 25) as she throws her drink in Dan Osborne's shocked face following an argument in a Marbella nightclub.
Brits abroad, eh?
We all know drink-throwing in Towie is commonplace but accusing a female cast member of sleeping with every bloke in Marbella will pretty much guarantee it.
And while we don't always condone such reckless behaviour, here's 10 other classic TV soakings below:
1. Towie's Mario & Lucy
"Another one-night-stand in Marbella?" a smug Mario let's slip as Lucy walks past him in a bar as the cast enjoy their annual summer break in Marbs last year. After a fight about cheating and who has been sleeping with who in Marbella, Lucy shouts: "I'm not the mug, you are," before throwing her entire glass of Sangria in his face and all over his skin-tight crisp white shirt.

The Jeremy Kyle Show has been reprimanded by Ofcom for an episode featuring a 17-year-old girl.
The September 23 instalment featured an older sister accusing her younger sibling, a 17-year-old, of theft and crack cocaine use.
Kyle brought up the younger sister's "reputation" and the fact that she had slept with 33 men - prompting her older sister to describe her as a "silly anorexic slapper" - and a lie detector test was carried out which suggested that the 17-year-old and her partner had stolen items from her mother's house.
At one point, Kyle was forced to warn that he would not share the lie detector results if the older sister continued to make threats towards her sibling - though Ofcom took a dim view of the fact that this warning came two-thirds of the way through the confrontation.
The show was cleared of breaching rule 1.28 - which orders broadcasters to take...

Sinitta has admitted to Digital Spy that she is more likely to become a contestant on The X Factor than a judge.
The 'So Macho' singer, who has served as a Judges' Houses mentor for all but one series and frequently campaigned for a spot on the panel, suggested that a 'comeback' category made exclusively of ex-popstars should be introduced.
Speaking to DS at this week's London Lifestyle awards, Sinitta clarified: "I've been joking about [being a judge] for ten years. Probably in the first few years I believed it could actually happen, but now I don't.
"I'd rather be a contestant on X Factor... I haven't had a record out since the '90s so it'll be like a proper comeback.
"I reckon there should be another category - that's what we should do. We should have five categories - Boys, Girls, Groups, Over-25s and the Comebacks. We need to copyright this.

A lot of people are aware there’s a large segment of TV programming that’s generally pretty dire. In some instances it can even be annoying. Whether it’s poorly acted, badly written or has an equal blend of being so bad that you can’t stop watching it, television is often the butt of jokes in terms of its quality.
However, there are some shows that transgress into an area that could be seen as harmful. If you’re like me and terrible chat shows make you cringe and reach for the remote, you could probably swap the title above for any number of the other variations out there.
For now, I’m going to offer a genuinely sincere case as to why the Jeremy Kyle Show is a damaging program that needs to go away. The easiest answer to my solution is to just not watch it.

"There were episodes where girls said their mums never loved them, yet the mums said it was the daughters' fault. It helped me understand Kerry."
Kerry arrived in the Dales ten months ago but hadn't seen daughter Amy (Chelsea Halfpenny) since she was fostered as a young child. She has tried to patch things up with Amy but they are at odds over Kerry's drinking.
This week Kerry's drunken behaviour has terrible consequences as a fire rips through Andy's home, leaving baby Jack Sugden's life in danger.

Blue Peter has reportedly increased its security after The Jeremy Kyle Show recently started filming nearby.
Large X-ray scanners have been purchased amid fears that guests on the ITV chat show may bring in weapons, reports The Sun.
The long-running Cbbc show was previously the only other programme filmed at the studios before Kyle's programme began shooting there in February.
A source said: "It's like the studio has gone on lock-down with everything needing to be bolted to the floor so it's not stolen.
"It all seems a little ridiculous but I guess they've got to be careful with the guests on Jeremy Kyle. The famous Blue Peter garden is just outside - so you can imagine the atmosphere is now very different."
Kyle's show was previously filmed at ITV's Granada but has now moved to Blue Tower studios in MediaCity, Salford, Manchester.

He repeatedly told the prison officers they must have it wrong until they showed him the proof in several news reports. Speaking in a candid interview on TV programme 'The Jeremy Kyle Show', Blake said: 'One of the senior officers ... said, 'This is never easy, but Amy has died.' For about...

Amy Winehouse's ex Blake Fielder-Civil has appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show.
The singer's former husband, who has been clean from drugs since he stopped taking methadone in January 2012, said: "I've admitted I was there when she had it first time, yeah it was my doing. I don't think she would have ever experienced it without me.
"I had maybe had it three or four times and we were in a hotel in East London and for some reason I think I had about ten pounds of heroin with me which is something we used to do after a club.
"I was smoking it on foil and she said can I try some and I said... I might have put up a weak resistance... the fact is whatever I said she did end up having some.
