A freak in love

"DVD" is a really funny short film. Although the story is not the most original story in the world, the director (Ciro Altabás) knows how to make it original. He adds a really special style, based on the DVDs' menus, extras and options.

César Camino (the lead actor) makes the best performance of this short. It's also fair to emphasize the job of Manuel Tallafé (specially his performance singing the original song of the short film, "Copyright for love").

If you have the chance, see this short, the Official Short Film of the Freak Pride. You can see "DVD" on Google Video.

Okay for a fan film, not enough for a "real" movie

Warning: Spoilers
"DVD" is a Spanish Spanish-language live action short film from 2006, so this one had its 10th anniversary last year. It is one of the biggest successes by writer and director Ciro Altabás who also gained a bit of awards attention here. I must say the cast is completely unknown to me, but maybe Spaniards ill recognize a face/name or two in here. It is basically all about the comedy in here with an ounce of romance. You can easily see the people who made this and starred in it pretty much enjoyed the shooting, not just because of the Kevin Bacon blooper at the very end. But it's not really good enough to be seen by wide audiences. It is very much over the place and could have needed a bit of order and a bit more of focus. You can see that Altabás is probably a bit of a film buff, maybe even nerd, with all the movie and pop culture references and the outcome is definitely not a failure, but I also wouldn't call it a satisfying watch by any means. My suggestion is to skip it.
