Shooting was made difficult by the extreme heat in Chicago at the time of shooting. Room temperatures neared 100 degrees Fahrenheit on some days
The rain in the scene at the Leymore house was not scripted or pre-planned, the first shot completed at the house facing the windows was Mrs. Leymore's medium shot sitting against the window and the production team felt it would be a good backup to shoot a hose against the window in case it did rain the next day (as the weather forecast called for). In fact, it never rained, and the production team was then locked into keeping the rain continuity throughout the rest of the scene
