Contrary to what the majority of documentaries for DVD's tend to be (mostly behind the scenes images) this one is all about reminiscences some of the actors have from making "Dead Poets Society", more than 10 years of its release. Gathered here are major players in the movie, Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard, and the supporting actors Dylan Kussman (Cameron), Norman Lloyd (Mr. Nolan), Kurtwood Smith (Mr. Perry), Melora Walters (Tina) and Allelon Ruggiero (Meeks) and they all share their enthusiasm of being part of one of the greatest films ever made and also the experience and the pleasure of learning with the director Peter Weir, praised by everyone here - with justice cause he did a tremendous job.
They share the best they can remember about the process of making, and the documentary doesn't hide that some of the actors had a lot of trouble to reminding of facts surrounding their involvement in the project (Hawke's the one who forgets the most). But they all agree about the quality of the material they had the privilege to work with, their contributions to the film, most of the time rightfully accepted by the director which includes re-shoots and rewrites that fit appropriately with the story, making it real. And in the end, it was an authentic picture, very believable and not only because of Tom Schulman script but also because of everything the actors brought to the screen, their life experiences and the capacity Mr. Weir had in being a good observer and a true artist knowing what to do at the exact time.
"Dead Poets: A Look Back" is filled of good stories, and it's one of those cases where you envy everybody involved with the movie because you really wanted to be part of it. As explained by veteran Lloyd, who worked with the likes of Scorsese, Renoir, Chaplin and Welles, he said to the young actors, mostly unknown at the time, that they should treasure that moment because it hardly ever repeats again. Well, they enjoyed every bit of it, as evidenced by their stories here. 9/10
