"Condemned in the Crystal" provides another intriguing storyline that finishes up in predictable fashion. John Radian (Michael Hinn) becomes obsessed over an uncertain future, his recurring dreams about a certain room that he could never bring himself to enter as a child sending him to a psychiatrist, Dr. Hume (Chalmers Goodlin). The doctor believes that Radian fears the future, and advises him to face up to it by returning to the same boyhood building, where he discovers a fortune teller and her crystal ball. Madame Germaine (Gunnel Brostrom) denies knowing anything about Radian, but predicts that she will be the instrument of his death at midnight, only hours away. Panicked, he tries phoning his doctor before returning to Madame Germaine, where he figures she can't kill him if he's present. Tension nicely builds up as the hour draws near, dissipated by the sadly obvious conclusion. Along with "The Photograph" and "The Girl in the Glacier," this episode was later incorporated into the compilation feature "The Devil's Messenger," which expanded Lon Chaney's role as host to becoming the Devil himself, in exclusively shot new footage that also included Michael Hinn's John Radian, the only actor from any of the three entries to film additional scenes, saved for the very end.
