As a kid I was terrified by The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town, the origins of the story from The Two Ronnies show dates back several years. Originally intended for Peter Sellers, Ronnie Barker first made this version, back in 1971, part of the Six Dates with Barker series.
Had I not been totally obsessed with the 1976 adaptation, I'd be scoring this a ten, however it has to have an eight, as in comparison it is a little rough around the edges. Spike Milligan's story is of course magical, it is hilarious, and of course terrifying to seven year olds. Barker is of course glorious in his many costumes, and it's loaded with laughs.
2018 and Britain is still awash with Raspberry blowers, this was genius.
