Great cliffhanging episode
Tweekums17 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
By now series three has found its footing and the viewer is used to the fact that two years have passed of which Sydney has no memories and only one clue as to what happened; a video which shows her murdering a man who turned out to be Sark's father. Here we learn more about her missing time when Sydney goes undercover to retrieve a bio-weapon which The Covenant wants to get its hands on; she doesn't know her contact but he clearly knows her as he kisses her passionately and calls her Julia. Before letting her go on a mission with then they give her a test: steal a necklace from a hotel room before the police can get there, it was a close call but after stripping to her underwear and diving from the balcony into the pool below she escapes and is on the team. Things don't go according to plan though when they realise she is meeting Vaughn and he is CIA, she is forced to take drastic action to avoid blowing her cover.

I really enjoyed this episode, there was plenty of action, the series plot was advanced and we were left with a great cliff hanger ending.

Warning: Spoilers
For anyone who might have been missing the feel of Season 1, where Sydney worked deep and long-term undercover, "A Missing Link" brings some of that feel back: when a member of a team who stole a deadly virus is infected during the operation (and dies a little later), Sydney is assigned to replace him and plant a tracking device on whatever they're planning on stealing next to make the virus even more dangerous. To be accepted into the team, Sydney has to earn the leader's trust, which turns out to be easier than expected because the man actually knows her by a different name, Julia! Which, it is now assumed, is also the name she was using when she killed that Russian diplomat. Lots of tension in this episode, as Sydney has to get intimate with a man whom she does not remember (although he clearly remembers her) and who is also a criminal, execute a daring robbery in 7 minutes, avoid being spotted by Sark when he is in the same room with her, make up a cover story for Vaughn, and find a way to deal with his exposure as a CIA agent. And I must say that her dive into the pool blows Halle Berry's dive into the sea in "Die Another Day" out of the water (no pun intended). *** out of 4.
